ParticipantUPDATE:
I found an answer to my second questions. There is a plugin that allows you to set runs for each profile field, https://buddypress.org/community/groups/bp-profile-privacy/home/.
Still looking for a solution to my first question. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

KeymasterTry this?
http://www.openkb.org/phpiis7-iis-to-return-a-502-bad-gateway/This might not be a BuddyPress problem… might be good to try and troubleshoot your server setup.

Keymaster@jillsays – The process should be identical.
First, you need a deep integrated bbPress install. There are a bunch of tutorials about this; try this one:
http://blog.ashfame.com/2010/02/deep-integration-bbpress-wordpress/Then add the recreate_bb_admin_bar() function from here to your bbPress theme’s functions.php file:

ParticipantDid you try posting your problem to Trac: https://trac.buddypress.org/ (same login as here)? That’s where the core developers will most likely see and help with a problem like this.

Participant@erich73,
Done. I hope this gets traction because it would make our communities a lot more intuitive!May 24, 2010 at 11:38 pm #79529In reply to: private messaging broke on 1.2.4 upgrade

KeymasterThis is only happening for your admin account right?
This ticket is related to your issue:
https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/1820Might want to reopen it.

Also try disabling any third-party plugins (including the Usernames only plugin)… see if your problem disappears.

ParticipantTry BuddyPress Links. It does a lot more than what you’re describing, but should accomplish what you want. You just might have to restrict the other functionality, but it has lots of hooks that could probably accomplish that if you can code.

Participantgreat idea Greg !
I would suggest you post an enhancement-ticket for BP1.3
https://trac.buddypress.org/timeline– Follow a Forum-thread = Subscribe to a specific Forum-thread. Would be cool to have……if it is simple to understand for users.
– Drop in “most followed Forum-Threads” , “most followed Blogs”, “most followed Users” , “most followed Group”, etc.
– This would replace what once has been “most active” , “most popular”.
– Skip the “Favourite” stuff.KISS

piphut
ParticipantMore info: for some reason it returns my username as “admin” even though I deleted the “admin” user a long time ago. My profile page even uses “admin” in the URL: http://piphut.com/members/admin
However I user @r-a-y ‘s username only plugin and it shows up correctly as “piphut” in my blog comments.
So the problem appears to be in is passing the wrong username in the r= string when people try to private message me, and therefor the ‘send to’ is not being populated correctly, though it was working correctly before the upgrade to 1.2.4
Thoughts? Quick fixes? Free fish?

Inactivenow that’s a really nice idea! You couldn’t be a friend of a blog, but you could basically follow anything!! It’d open up a lot of possibilities if the followers plugin provided an api for other plugins to hook into… Now, if we could only get our itchy hands on the little bugger…

Participant“Follow” functionality request: allow members to follow Blogs, Forums, Galleries, and just about everything else offered with Buddypress, not just Members.
I’d love to be able to Follow my favorite blogs, forum discussions, etc. It’s more specific than just following a member and more dynamic than just adding as a Favorite. Ideally, there could be “Follow this ____ ” buttons all over buddypress and even tabs showing the number of followers for a given item.

Participant@hurd06, I would suggest doing a complete reinstall of the latest version of BP. Delete your current BP folder via FTP and then upload the latest version of BP (1.2.4.1) via FTP. Then let us know what happens.

Keymaster@DJPaul – I’ve removed the filter I had on bp_member_name due to redundancy. Turns out I was already using a similar filter in place! Welcome Pack should be compatible with the Usernames Only plugin now.

Keymaster@pjnu – Check any custom code you may have in your theme’s functions.php and in wp-content/plugins/bp-custom.php.

jillsays
MemberIf anyone has a plugin for this, I’d love to know about it! Right now, Buddypress feels very disjointed from the blog itself (foodnetworkhumor.com) – and the ability to “favorite” comments from other members, and specific blog posts, would really help bring it all together.

Anonymous User 96400
InactiveWhen you use the automatic upgrade feature, then all custom files, including all language files in bp-languages, in the BP folders will get deleted. Actually, you could specify a folder outside of BP in which to upload your language files. No more problems when you upgrade…
load_textdomain( ‘buddypress’, BP_PLUGIN_DIR . ‘/bp-languages/buddypress-‘ . BPLANG . ‘.mo’ );
You want to modify that 2. parameter. Doesn’t really apply to the WPML plugin, though, I guess. Just thought I’d put it out there…
