In reply to: Buddypress 1.2.3 to 1.2.4 ugrade FAIL!

ParticipantWow, I was just about going to upgrade but checked here quickly because upgrading BuddyPress always has a kind of bad feeling attached to it (at least for me) – and sure enough, it seems I wont be able to upgrade just now…

KeymasterIf you view the members directory, you’ll view people with display names:

MemberNo I don’t have that installed ( never even heard of it).
Yes, I know that if you view the individual users profile, you wiil see their real name, but throughout the rest of the site, they are referred to by their user name.
They are listed by their username. They are referred to in the activity stream by their username.
When you click on to see the members directory, you don’t see real people, you see usernames.

ParticipantSee the thread at the plugin’s website at its developer’s website:
http://www.bravenewcode.com/support/topic/buddypress-geoThere is a patch mentioned there.
But there are still some other issues to get it working properly.May 23, 2010 at 2:17 am #79258r-a-y
KeymasterNot true! Take a look at testbp.org and on bp.org.
Every name in the activity stream is using the display name.eg. https://buddypress.org/community/members/DJPaul/ – Take a look at Paul’s activity stream. What name is displayed in the activity stream?
In fact, some people wanted it the other way around (using usernames instead of display names)!
Do you have the BP Usernames Only plugin installed? If so, disable it.May 23, 2010 at 2:04 am #79256In reply to: Newly installed plugins redirect to Homepage.
@mercime
ParticipantI can only speak for BP-Gallery.
In your test install, Make sure that you have moved the “gallery” folder from the bp-galleryrc4update2 plugin folder into your active theme folder. Remember to go to BuddyPress > Gallery Settings and set up your preferences as well, then save. Make sure you log out and then log back in again.May 23, 2010 at 1:44 am #79253In reply to: CSSActivity.com

May 23, 2010 at 1:07 am #79251In reply to: BP 1.2.4 – Custom BP_AVATAR_URL change
r-a-y
KeymasterYour avatar URLs appear to be missing the leading “http:”. I think I remember reading about this bug before.
You can temporarily fix this by defining your BP_CUSTOM_URL in wp-config.php to:
define( 'BP_AVATAR_URL', 'http://nijmegeneet.nl/club/wp-content/uploads' );See if that works.

ParticipantOne (troublesome, but workable) solution would be to switch your WPMU site to WP. Realizing this could be a pain if you’re site is highly configured — but it *is* a possibility.

Participantseems like BP 1.2.4 was tested with testbp.org only, which unfortunately is not running on WPMU anymore…..would be better to have a testbp.org with Single-WP and another test-website with a WPMU-install.
This would also help developers to compare their own WPMU-BP-website against a default WPMU-BP-install (like testbp.org but with WPMU).

Participant@Dwenaus is spot on guy, (IMHO) sorry. Let’s face it, the examples he gave all put their listing here for viz purposes only. It’s almost spam-like. The photo gallery one is the worst infraction as it is the most misleading. Everyone in BP-land anxiously awaits a fully BP aware image plugin (we’re talking ones that integrate with xprofile, the activity stream etc) There are tons of gallery plugins on WP (I use NextGen Gallery a lot) but they are no different than this one. Why don’t they ALL get listed here? They shouldn’t. The only reason they added #buddypress to their listing was exposure. I have written that plugin dev many times to get clarity on this and they have disappeared. That’s because they just wanted exposure.
Are there useful WP only plugins in a BP world, of course. Should they be tagged as such? Debatable. Boone, Jeff, and others have done such great work in BP specific stuff that it becomes an insult and a disservice.
This is different than the WP plugin repo. It requires some moderation ( @jjj and @apeatling you listening?) because to build a BP plugin is non-trivial.

Participant“I cannot put blog posts there.”
Sure you can, @muhammads92. just go to dashboard, Posts > New and post your blog. And, if you do not have a “Blog” in your main navigation, just create a new Page named e.g. “Blog” or “News” and publish it. Then go to Settings > Reading and choose “Static frontpage” and choose what you want for front page in dropdown then choose “home” or “News” in dropdown for blog page and save.May 22, 2010 at 9:18 pm #79239In reply to: Changing Group tab display defaults

Keymaster@ruffrazor @twob @erich73 @snark @3sixty
Here’s how to set the “Forum” tab as the default in groups:
I took Boone’s former code and tweaked it with a little URI trickery! Requires no core hacks and complicated function duplication

Paste the following in /wp-content/plugins/bp-custom.php
http://pastebin.com/j3n17CVe (you’ll probably need to tweak the code for BP subdomain installs!) (updated)If you want to reorder it so the “Forum” tab is displayed first, add this snippet to your theme’s functions.php:

Participantbuddypress does what you are wanting with both blogs and social, it works for me with the WPMU version of wordpress. From what I understand some people have it working with the new wordpress 3.0 series that is in kind of a testing phase at this tine. I am not sure if any blog themes have come that match the current default buddypress theme exactly – but it wouldn’t be hard to sculpt a WP theme like painter or constructor to be very close in most details.
But what you are asking, is exactly what buddypress does. I would go back over all the of the installation instructions, and recheck all the steps and settings. If you are trying to use regular wordpress, and not wordpress mu – that may be an issue – haven’t tried that yet. Maybe there is another setting that is not in the instructions for that?
May 22, 2010 at 8:02 pm #79232@mercime
ParticipantAnd you are absolutely correct on both points, thank you

Now what is the SOP to make this come true?May 22, 2010 at 7:57 pm #79231In reply to: BP 1.2.4 – Custom BP_AVATAR_URL change
