Participant@JJJ I’m not so sure the idea of a BP-core plus add-ons is the right approach. To me, the big question becomes where do you draw the line?
As for bundling plugins, please don’t do that. “Hello Dolly” still annoys me and I still have to keep deleting it. I don’t want to see a whole bunch of plugins show up in my install. A better approach is to have a much more user friendly plugin repository. I’m anxiously waiting to see what Andy churns out for that because my biggest gripe now is there is no easy way to know what is supported/recommended.

ParticipantAlong these lines…I haven’t seen much discussion about spammers lately.
Am I still the only one getting 100+ per day?
Please please please someone figure out how to make buddypress’s registration page reference the banned domain list!

InactiveThx @Modemlooper , I integrated Facestream pretty cool plug-in.
Still need something more to be a dedicated “Wall” for people to easily post their status updates / vote up/down etc.
Anyone else have ideas or know where I can find a good buddypress professional for a low price?
Thanks In Advance!

MemberI don’t know if this was your question but I found the function in /wp-content/buddypress/bp-activity/bp-activity-templatetags.php
I’m trying to do the same thing as @hypergripe
The default layout of the Actions (forum actions) is like this:
Admin posted on the forum topic TOPIC NAME in the group GROUP NAME: 39 minutes ago · View · Delete
Content of forum post
I want it to look like this:
TOPIC NAME
Admin said:
Content of Forum Post
View Full – Delete
Group/Category: GROUP NAME
I think that layout would be more intuitive for my users.
It would be way helpful to be able to sort and have more control over <?php bp_activity_action() ?>
Has anyone made progress in this regard? Any tips would be appreciated.

ParticipantWhat JJJ said about it technicaly. What Andrea_r said about Facebook. I’ll add what I think as an admin.
BP is a stream for me as a user and not a techie. I need to be able to tweak everything that shows up in the stream in a way so that the community can expand. We’ve got 250 users now at a closed community with about 20% really active users. I’d like to grow up to at least 1000 users but I’m afraid of what will become of the Stream. I’ve got 300 very active friends over at Facebook and it makes me want to hide away from it. I mostly never go there since it’s too much to follow.
Also apart from the Stream there needs to be containers for all things for part time users. They should be able to follow the community even if they don’t take a peek every day.

Participant@gregfielding – you are getting closer to a vision I have of the “net” – Imagine each person has their own “buddypress” and their friends have theirs – all on separate servers – friends are “linked” across the net via BP – my own activity feeds my friends canonically on their “what are my friends up to” page – my groups can be joined by my friends, but they do not have to be members, just request membership and wha-la they are members of my group – I can send email to the group – each one is separate, I can post updates which send email – etc.
Basically, you completely do away with the behemouth server farms by enabling creation of lite BP cells that are all linked together. How do you make that happen?

ParticipantActually, if you “Mark as Spammer”, I believe BP suspends the spammer’s blog too. The problem is with Delete. To expand on what I wrote earlier today,
When you “Delete User”:
1. The user is deleted from the Members list, but the URL to the Member profile is still reachable (I filed this as a bug at trac.buddypress.org)
2. The spam blog is NOT deleted.
3. The entry in wp_signups is NOT deleted.
4. The entry in wpmu-users.php page is NOT deleted.

MemberI got your modifications working, it inserts HTML, maybe i’ll try and make it insert BBCode, my users will probably be more familiar with that.
I’m using the ck attachment plugin found here https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/forum-attachments-for-buddypress/ and it doesn’t work is there an updated version to that?
Any tips for switching it into BBCode, I’m using this plugin:
https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/new-plugin-buddypress-group-forum-extras
to handle the BBCode conversion into HTML.
Thanks for the script.

ParticipantBuddyPress works in a WordPress install – so in the /community/folder there has to be a WP install you’re posting from. It is not a stand-alone script.
Look at the HTML source of the page, it says:
<meta name="generator" content="WordPress 2.9.2" />When I go to your main install at the actual root, those menu items on the front of your site are off the root blog.
You have another blog at /community/ as well as BuddyPress. Did you, perchance, install this using SimpleScripts?
April 14, 2010 at 5:20 pm #73517gregfielding
ParticipantSo I tried to explain this to my father…who can barely use email.
Pretend you’re in a room with 1,000 people that you don’t know. Now, you might end up making friends with 10 of them, and doing business with 2. The problem is that it would take you a week of shaking hands and starting conversations to find those connections.
Social Networks/Communities…like Buddypress/Facebook/LinkedIn etc. turn that week into 10 minutes.
To me, improved community-wide searching and easy navigation by profile fields (can someone please load in locations?) are the most important areas where BP is clunky and needs improvement. We need to focus on turning that 10-minutes into 5, while being ever-more-user-friendly and intuitive in the process.
The trend is that all of these networks will share information with one another, so much so that, in time, walls will be torn down and eventually, “Social Networks” will be a big mosh of everything…made up of smaller topic-focused communities like each of ours.
BP gives each of us a chance to create a niche within this great mosh. We shouldn’t try to BE the mosh, but simply be the most efficient and user-friendly communities within it.

ParticipantReporting bad behavior is listed as a potential future feature for BP 1+4+
https://buddypress.org/about/roadmap/
There is some potential overlap here, as I think one developer is planning on doing a plugin for Report/Ignore activity.
I haven’t heard anything about a bad word filter for Buddypress, so I am not sure anyone is working on a BP-specific plugin for that. It would not be complicated to code if you can find a developer.

I had some problems to get the values of the forum:
The instance of the $forum_template is only initialized in the forum loop in the template. So I had to initialize a second object, that decreased the performance a bit.
