ParticipantDumb child theme question here for your code…
If I create the same groups/single/forum/ folder arrangement in my child theme, then copy topic.php there and make your changes, will that work?

KeymasterThanks for the feedback, everyone, keep it coming. Won’t have time to look seriously at this plugin for another few weeks, but it will be nice to have a list of tasks and requests.

ParticipantDelete the plugin to fix any admin issues.
Do you have wordpress mu or wordpress single user? Perhaps the call is different in single user?
Thanks,
Dave

Participantwp: 3.0a
bp: 1.2.1
plugin: 0.3 bleeding
links do not work – just link back to main directory
everything else works, just needs CSS styling.
request: add specific bp-tinymce classes to the elements you enable in TinyMCE

ParticipantThere are some issues:
missing description of buttons
/br doesn’t work
lists don’t work
Will wait for the fixes. Thanks
you need to change wp-includes/js/tinymce/langs/wp-langs-en.js to en.js (i did duplicate the wp-langs-en.js then rename one of them to en.js).
good luck.

Participanttbh having looked at your hosts site as well I wouldn’t have been able top pass a judgement as to whether they were big or small, there are a lot of factors involved in good hosting and these are not necessarilly apparent just by looking at a site.
If they have offered to tweak settings to you requirements that is a good sign, good customer support counts for a great deal with hosting.
If your happy with this host I would stick with them, especially if they are willing to tune things as you need them.
As for basic requirements you need Apache to allow overide so that .htaccess rules will work, you need mem limits for scripts in PHP set quite high (higher than default) PHP version is best at 5.2 or above.
There are probably guides to optimum and required settings if you look around buddypress.org and wordpress.org and perhaps other members will chip in with min requirements for a healthy installation.
Out of interest what sort of hosting account do have presently and what do you plan to upgrade to? and are you intending running WPMU for it’s blog creation capabilities.

ParticipantI just clued in that these bots are probably all using proxy servers… and compiling a big list of them all would be futile. So I found this htaccess code that blocks servers based on their methods. I know this topic has gone beyond specific BuddyPress fixes… but I’ve done all of the BuddyPress fixed (and more) and I’m STILL getting SPAM signups. So perhaps this will help someone else.

March 16, 2010 at 11:20 am #68572In reply to: Switching from external bbpress to internal bbpress
Boone Gorges
KeymasterHi Kunal17. When I upgraded my site from BP 1.0.x to BP 1.1.x, I had to go through the process of migrating from an external bbPress install to the internal one. Here’s the blog post I wrote on the subject: http://teleogistic.net/2009/12/upgrading-from-buddypress-1-0-to-1-1/
As far as advantages/disadvantages, to the best of my knowledge BP uses the most recent release of bbPress for its internal forum workings, and will continue to do so. Thus, as long as you keep your external bbPress installation up to date, it is unlikely that they will stop working together (granted that you have done the work to make them work together in the first place). When you move to the internal forums, you lose some of the extensibility of the external bbPress, as many of the plugins have not been ported to (or replicated for) BuddyPress yet. But not having to worry about the consistent look, shared userbase, etc was very much worth it for me.

KeymasterUsing eAccellerator or XCache is highly recommended as it can reduce the memory footprint 20-30x.

ParticipantDid you run the ‘top’ command before upgrading just to see what resources were possibly hogging cpu and mem
I would have probably rebooted the VPS first as that can free things up, however 128MB main memory is a small amount to try and run WP/BP in I would try and get it up a bit further than you have to be safe especially if the site gets busy.

MemberI would like to use this with the default theme, excluding the sidebar on the home and post pages.
In which file would this code be placed?
