    @wordpressfan thanks, just a fun project…

    1. in the profile field setup create a new group – add items, then bp_profile_group_tabs() ?> does the rest.

    2. bp_the_site_member_link() ?>album works perfectly

    * You’ve deleted all the content (visible and invisible) from your root folder

    – Have not done this, but I did create a new subdirectory and installed WPMu in that location.

    * Your using a blank DB that has a different name, username, and password from any that you’ve used before

    – Check.

    * You’ve cleared your browser’s cache

    – I’ve done this with previous testing, but not with this new install. I’ll try that.

    * You’ve downloaded a new copy of WPMU and installed it, creating brand new wp-config and .htaccess files

    – Check.

    * You’ve downloaded the newest BuddyPress trunk (if running bleeding edge). If using a tagged version of BP, then you’ve downloaded that version again to have a fresh, clean copy. You then manually install BP and then activate it.

    – Check (revision 1903, as noted).

    * You have no other themes installed in wp-contents (other than the default WPMU and BP themes)

    – Check.

    * You have no other plugins except BP (and possibly the default plugins that come with WPMU)

    – Check.

    So, it seems that clearing my browser cache and clearing the root folder might be the only issues. I’m imagining that the latter assumes I’ve installed in root, which I haven’t; I have a single-user WP blog there that’s not going anywhere. I could install to my local machine (which I’m likely to do anyway), but that wouldn’t seem to invalidate this particular phenomenon.

    As to browser cache, I’ve cleared that before without affecting results, and will do so now; but that would seem to suggest it’s not critical. I’ll leave a note after I’ve tested it, though (don’t want to while replying, for obvious reasons).

    @Burkie: snaps is an interesting forum. I’m building something similar for journalists. A couple questions:

    1. How did you display profile field groups beyond “base” ? I never see those displayed, except when logged-in as admin or by the profile-owner.

    2. What do you use to create a portfolio link to photos? I have a number of photographers and offering a portfolio would be a popular feature.

    Exactly my point. I prefer the profile page designs chosen by buddypress.org and profiles.wordpress.org – they’ve removed the “Me” and “My Profile” columns in favor of a sub-menu in one case and base data under the former “Me” column in another.

    Are there any examples of how BuddyPress sites are diverting from the default profile styling?

    no problem, I like clean sites straight to the point, like yours.

    @gerikg thanks, think typekit just has an issue with IE at the moment, will look into replacement type face though. screen shot

    Looks good.

    Sidenote: font-family:”swister-1″,”swister-2″; if the user doesn’t have these fonts the computer replaces them with something “similar” and sometimes the results is not what you would like. On my screen the font it replaces with is hard to read.

    Okay, I’m just checking to make sure that we are on the same page. What exactly do you mean by “virgin setup”. Is everything brand, spanking new?

    To me, a virgin install is this:

    • You’ve deleted all the content (visible and invisible) from your root folder
    • Your using a blank DB that has a different name, username, and password from any that you’ve used before
    • You’ve cleared your browser’s cache
    • You’ve downloaded a new copy of WPMU and installed it, creating brand new wp-config and .htaccess files
    • You’ve downloaded the newest BuddyPress trunk (if running bleeding edge). If using a tagged version of BP, then you’ve downloaded that version again to have a fresh, clean copy. You then manually install BP and then activate it.
    • You have no other themes installed in wp-contents (other than the default WPMU and BP themes)
    • You have no other plugins except BP (and possibly the default plugins that come with WPMU)

    Also, it does not hurt to clear your Apache and PHP error logs so that you can easily see any errors specific to your new install.

    @jeff, “Favorite Status: Add this topic to your favorites (?)” link. When you click on it it adds to your favorite. How do you manage it? You have to go to bbpress profile instead of the buddypress profile. I’m changed all my links trying not have the user go to bbpress profile because it’s confusing have two profile pages. I would like to be able to manage the favorites in the buddypress profile not bbpress.

    We have absolutely zero information about your setup on which we can base our analysis. Please read this thread.

    You are talking about the saving of forum threads. This should be asked/suggested in the bbPress support forums. Even though bbPress is utilized by BuddyPress, it still is its own, separate plugin.

    Which version of BP are you running? This has been addressed in v1.1.

    See my Trac ticket from 3 months ago. The ticket is closed, indicating that it has been fixed in trunk. Although I do not see the changeset where it was fixed, it should work if you are using the current trunk.

    Do anyone know if the issue of installing buddypress into a blog with id other than #1 works yet?

    I was running the older vs. and when I tried setting blog id#30 it never worked right so I wiped the system and started over. Simply waiting until a vs. of bp works in subdomain blog other than 1

    If it does are there new instructions for getting it to work in blog other than 1?

    I’ve done a complete reinstall of WPMU 2.8.4 and Buddypress 1.0.3 and still having the same problem. Everything works okay until I activate Buddypress. Then two things happen:

    1. When I go into themes (general themes not buddypress themes) and hit preview on any theme I get this warning:

    You do not have any BuddyPress themes installed.

    Please move “/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/” to “/wp-content/bp-themes/” and refresh this page. You can download more themes here.

    2. The front page of my WPMU site turns into a blog directory that does not recognize the other blogs in my site even though they are visible and accesible in the pulldown menu that Buddypress adds to the top of the site. I can no longer access posts in that blog or change the theme.

    I definitely did the moving of the folders so that is not the problem.

    Is it because I am using subdirectories and not subdomains?

    It feels like my WPMU install is looking at the wrong themes folder, could that be it?

    Really at a loss here thanks for the help

    Yes, both testbp.org and BuddyPress.org use bbPress. You need to customize your bbPress theme. Search the forums here for “bbPress theme”.

    @Timschmi

    No, there is not a facility for hiding your online status from the rest of the site. That feature is really not necessary as the privacy settings will allow you to block all communication for a single user all the way up to all users. So, what difference does it make if someone knows that you are currently online.

    As a side thought, this Site ( BP.org ), uses the “Recently Active” widget instead of the “Who’s Online” avatar listing. I think this makes more sense as it does not indicate if someone is currently online. It is simply a listing of the most recently active members.

    A have a question converning the “Who is online” feature. Can you also hide there, so you are online but it is not shown to the world?
