In reply to: Beta – bb-press one click install issue
John James Jacoby
KeymasterIf you keep trying to re-install bbPress by revisiting the forum setup screen, it’s going to keep telling you to do that step manually if that directory/file does not have write access.
If it’s asking you to create that file, it means everything else is done and this is your final step that you must do manually.
When 1.1 is final this issue won’t exist because you won’t need to move the bbPress files around; they will be included in the BuddyPress1.1 zip.

Keymaster@podictionary, @diegorodrigues,
It sounds like you have not yet placed your bbPress files in the buddypress/bp-forums/bbpress/ directory.

KeymasterLooks like you do not have bbpress installed where expected. Make sure you have a copy of bbPress in plugins/buddypress/bp-forums/bbpress/

ParticipantThank you I am looking into that now.
Okay…I don’t see anything in there that is going to help me.
Can you please point it out?
“@wordpressfan, you will want to make sure that wp-contents/plugins/buddypress/bp-forums/bbpress/ contains all of the files that come with bbPress.
When you use the auto-install functionality of BuddyPress forums, it will create a bb-config.php file at the root of your WordPress MU installation.”
I see the above but the auto install is not creating a bb-config.

ParticipantWith 1.1, how do I change the H1 text to an img? I want to add my logo to the default theme – I guess via the custom.css file?

ParticipantThanks for the outline. I’ve been able to successfully create a group with a forum attached.
I appreciate all of the help I’ve received as a BuddyPress newbie. I want to “give back” by creating some docs that clearly outline the steps needed. Perhaps that will reduce the avalanche of questions on oft-answered subjects.

Keymaster1. White screens should show up in your server logs; check the offending process and adjust to taste.
2. Facebook Connect Plugin will probably need some adjusting for BuddyPress1.1. I know other people have experienced some lag, memory, and slowness issues using it.
3. Yay integration!
4. I know Burt hasn’t updated the group blogs plugin in a while, but your best bet to set default themes and settings would be to check out the WPMU new blog defaults plugin. You should be able to adapt that to set the blog theme on creation.

KeymasterMohit Kumar, since I know you’re a regular around these parts, was this an upgrade from a previous bbPress installation? If so, is that installation external or internal? Were you previously using BuddyPress trunk, or stable release?

ParticipantWhich version of BuddyPress are you running? As of trunk r1599 (which is just over 2 months ago), the functions bp_core_add_nav_default() and bp_core_add_subnav_item were deprecated, replaced by bp_core_new_nav_item() and bp_core_new_subnav_item().

ParticipantOk. New database. Fresh install of WPMU 2.4.8a. Fresh install of BP Beta 1. Copied bp-default into wp-content/themes. Activated. The theme still reports the following:
The template files are located in /themes/bp-sn-parent/blogs. The stylesheet files are located in /themes/bp-default. BuddyPress Default uses templates from BuddyPress Social Network Parent Theme. Changes made to the templates will affect both themes.

KeymasterHave you set up bbPress in wp-admin > BuddyPress > Forums setup? Did you download and put bbPress in /wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-forums/ ?

KeymasterOr with BuddyPress1.1, inherit them from a parent theme, and CSS your way out of that bag.

KeymasterWith BuddyPress1.1, you can also recreate a custom registration page to include only the fields you specifically want them to have on sign-up, put it in your child theme, and let it do the dirty work.

ParticipantI installed 1.1 and was greeted with this:
Fatal error: Class ‘WP_Widget’ not found in D:www/myaxelis/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-widgets.php on line 14
the next time I tried to load my WPMu/buddypress page. Where did I go wrong.

Participant1. No plugins beside BP 1.1 Beta.
2. There are a number of database-related errors. I won’t list them all, but they tend to follow this:
Table ‘xxx.wp_2_options’ doesn’t exist for query INSERT INTO
wp_2_optionsNone of the errors mention themes.
When I recreated the buddypress test site, I kept the same databases, only dropping the fields and their content.
3. I’m currently running the Beta released Monday.
4. This is all after a clean install of WPMU and BuddyPress. The only thing that stayed the same was the database.
I guess my next step would be to create a fresh database and then reinstall WPMU and BP from scratch.

ParticipantAs DJPaul, said, you should talk to your web host whenever you are having server issues. This WordPress codex article may help, if it does not, talking with your web host is the next option.

KeymasterYes. But any wordpress theme used on a buddypress site will have to include extra files that come with the BP theme. I.e copy them.

Participant@John James Jacoby – is it ready what you described here 3 months ago?
I am searching for solution to make buddypress multilingual, but only in interface: theme and admin area should has multi language texts. ost dont have to be translated.
Just something like is at wordpress.com: user register and choose language. Then he see all interface in local language, write in any language he want.

ParticipantHi !
Seems to have good new functionnalities !
I have one problem though :
I use a fresh install (WPMU 2.8.4 + BuddyPress 1.1 Beta); no plugins;
I moved /bp-default and /bp-sn-parent to /themes;
and I get
Not Found
The requested URL …./wordpress-mu/blog was not found on this server.
Then I did copy my old .htaccess file to the fresh WPMU installation; and now I have
Page Not Found
The page you were looking for was not found.
What is the problem ?

ParticipantFor Buddypress 1.1 will there be a skeleton parent theme, or am I stuck with using the default parent theme and modifying that, then I might as well just create a child theme?
I have downloaded the bleeding edge 1.1 from trac and updated mysite. I am busy with a custom theme for my site and I would like to start with a skeleton theme. However I don’t mind hacking the default one if thats best. I am a bit new to developing WPMU themes although I have done themes for Joomla and hacked a couple of normal WP themes.
