In reply to: Member Theme: Remove 'Me' and 'My Profile' Columns?

ParticipantMy thinking is to emulate the profile style of either buddypress.org or wordpress.org sites. My site will only provide the ability to create a profile or search a profile. Actions such as e-mailing profile owners would be available within the main profile section.
Thanks for closing the other thread; I did not know the question had already been answered.

ParticipantI’m closing this thread as it deals with the exact same issue you posted several hours earlier. You can read my response in that thread.

ParticipantHow will your members gain access to their profile data–for editing–or their friends, groups, and messages, etcetera, if you remove the userbar?
I do not recommend this, unless you are planning to provide an alternate way for your members to access this data.
But, what you need to do to remove the “Me” column in the default BuddyPress member theme, is modify the userbar.php in your template file. To remove the “My Profile” column, you basically have to remove the xprofile navigation menu item that xprofile_setup_nav() invokes. The best way to do that is by creating a function in your bp-custom.php file that then invokes a remove_action() for the appropriate do_actions of that function.
Of course, if you remove the “Me” column it will automatically solve your issue of having the “My Profile” column being displayed. You will then have to come up with your own solution to just show the profile data for that given member. It can be done, but what you are asking removes so much access to BuddyPress functionality that I suggest you reconsider.

you can try trunk… it’s probably as close to 1.1 as you’ll get at this point (https://trac.buddypress.org/browser/trunk)

Check you are running the latest trunk. A fix or two went in for dates not being saved on localised BuddyPress sites very, very recently.

KeymasterHi
No, BuddyPress runs site-wide. Everyone can see everyone. You can’t run multiple instances of BuddyPress on one WPMU installation (some people call this BuddyPress MU).

Also, are you using a language translation on your site? If so, this particular bug has recently been fixed and will be in the next release of BP.

KeymasterHello
We aren’t going to admin your site. I’ve edited your post and removed the admin username and password; that was a very, very silly thing to do and I suggest you immediately go in and change the password.
Please help us help you by answering these questions.

KeymasterMichael, you can also try protecting spam signups by using a RewriteRule in your .htaccess:
http://wpmututorials.com/how-to/spam-blogs-and-buddypress/
This is quite an effective method that will stop most spambot signups (except the manual ones!)

KeymasterI’m assuming you mean BuddyPress, as opposed to bbPress which is the forum component.
Yes, comments posted on existing blogs on the WPMU installation will appear in the BuddyPress activity feeds. Make an account on http://testbp.org and have a play

ParticipantIf the current codebase was released into the plugins repository, then other developers who possibly have more time to spend on the plugin could work to improve it to a polished state.
I’m sure there would be plenty of people willing to lend a hand, I for one would be happy to help on the UI front.

ParticipantHi. I have the same problem. But it doesn’t depend on changing of themes. Simply posts from some blogs are not showing in the recent posts widget on the main page of BuddyPress site. Also new posts from these blogs are not showing in Activity widget and RSS. Because of it, problem is not in these widgets and plugins, but deeper.

ParticipantPatches Recap (Project SSL):
https://trac.mu.wordpress.org/ticket/1111
https://trac.mu.wordpress.org/ticket/1107
https://trac.bbpress.org/ticket/1136
https://trac.bbpress.org/ticket/1190
https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/979
A lot depends on 1111 and 1107.
It introduces ‘force_ssl_content’ and I think everything under the sun can use it.
If 1111 goes through you might as well add ‘Securing Buddypress’ to the roadmap, let R-A-Y, the gang and myself loose on this task.

Participant@John – I had a similar question, so I might as well attach it to this post.
I have my wpmu setup and running. I have already registered a number of users and accounts. I did create a ‘placeholder’ subdomain blog for my future buddypress install. I also set the wpmu admin to automatically add all new users to that blog.
So the question is simple:
When I add buddypress to the subdomain, will buddypress automatically recognize all the members of that subdomain blog?
I was told in another post awhile back that buddypress actually does not have it’s own registration system but uses wpmu. So by that theory I would expect buddypress to recognize everyone once it’s turned on….

Participant@chargertech – When bp 1.1 final is released I will reinstall it on my system and go to town trying to figure it all out.
Who knows, maybe Andy or someone will chime in someday and give us an example as to how to apply user filters to activity streams and listings.
I’ve still got to guess that they already have something even better up their sleeves. With automatic behind buddypress, one has to figure that they plan on adding it to wordpress.com someday, which would require this type of functionality.

ParticipantWordPress blog since 2006, bbPress forum added in 2008, and now a BuddyPress community. To start with we’re only using extended profiles and private messaging, but will layer in additional features over time.
Very grateful for the powerful platform that Andy and team have created, and for the great support offered by Burt, JJJ, Jeff and all the others on the forum.

ParticipantAs your issue seems to be with your provider, and not with BuddyPress itself, I’m going to set this thread to resolved.
By the way, if you are using a BuddyPress installing script and not using WPMU’s autoinstaller or simply doing a manual install yourself, you can run into a lot of issues.

InactiveNow I’ve installed everything again on another account (same provider but other server) and there everything works fine. So it seems to be a question of which provider you have.
And you are right, there aren’t any buddypress tables at all…I wonder why.
