ParticipantYou’d better post this wpmu than here as this isn’t actually related to buddypress.
n/w, I think you’re missing clear after the image or the after the first paragraph.

ParticipantI’ve made myself a personal copy of the BuddyPress.org theme without some of the features like bbPress design tweaks and such to mainly see what it took to make it. Really makes you appreciate CSS since it seems like 99% of it was just CSS changes.
I’ve been wrking on doing some updates to http://www.wannanetwork.com also.
I’m working on around 4 different BuddyPress powered websites with more scheduled. The themes being designed will probably have some sort of public release as well.
This is an initial mockup for one of themes that will be release to the community:

ParticipantThanks Andy. So I need to figure out whether having the logout accessible from everywhere is important enough to incur the overhead of loading WP in bbPress.
The BuddyPress forum seems pretty responsive, but I’m on a shared server.
Great work on BP. Amazing what you’re empowering people to do with their sites.

ParticipantJake,
I think you can definately achieve what you need using Buddypress. The home page does not have to be community focused at all and can be as flexible as any WordPress run website (you will have to install some way for members to access the community tho). You just have to customize and install the theme you need as the home theme.

we have the same problem – but i think after reading the post replies here and trying to analyze everything i realized and was able to bring what you MIGHT like to see in your forum section ..
use the bb default template in folder bb-templates
kakumei
bb-config.php
put code below
require_once( $_SERVER[‘DOCUMENT_ROOT’] . ‘/wp-load.php’ );
in the header.php that you mentioned include the get_header
this is how buddypress template files using bphome in your wp-content/themes
instead of using <?php wp_head() ?> use the one below
<?php get_header(); ?>
<div id=”search-login-bar”>
<?php bp_search_form() ?>
<?php bp_login_bar() ?>
<div class=”clear”></div>
</div>
it works for me but i have to edit more on the templates

ParticipantThanks Manoj,
Imagine the standard Buddypress layout. Now go to friends on the left menu. I have changed this page to just have the search feature with ‘members’ selected as the search option.You type in a member, it searches and returns the ‘member listing’ and AJAX powered member search feature.
This is exactly what I want, however, once you search, in the middle bar, default member template, where additional options are listed Eg. My friends, friend requests etc ‘Profile’ ‘Friends’ and the other ‘main’ titles appear with the following URLs:
‘http://address/member//profile
Any ideas howt o get rid of this?
Thanks again

ParticipantI’m not getting the error with my firebug looking at that page but the ajax is just spinning for me, too.
(I’m having a similar problem — different error and ajax doesn’t even spin.)
It sounds like you’re having an issue that other people have had. Does any of this look like it might relate to what’s going on for you?

ParticipantHi Pinastro! I’m a newbie here but I do know that SimpleScripts installations tend to be junkie and end up with 404 errors. It’s not that hard to install by hand — truly. Just take the instructions to install WordPress-MU, then BuddyPress, then BBPress bit by bit and it’ll be fine.
(Are you on Bluehost? I am and so I did first install with SimpleScripts and got the same errors so backed up, dropped the database tables and started over again.)
Good luck!

KeymasterNo, not to begin with. You could still use it to post to your blog within a BuddyPress install however.

KeymasterYes, deep integration, then you should just be able to use the existing nonce that is generated by WordPress.

ParticipantYou get what you pay for I guess. Although, in the case of BuddyPress… at a cost of $0.00… you get a whole lot more than you pay for.
Besides, if they waited until the system had absolutely everything… it would never be released. It was only released about a month ago. And now that there is an official 1.0 version out, I predict that developers will be flocking to it and developing lots of great third party plugins. It’s already happening. Consider that a couple of motivated developers have already freely donated their time to create pretty decent (if basic at the moment) events and photo gallery plugins!!!!! Pretty awesome if you ask me.
As for document management… there are a number of standard WordPress plugins that will handle that for you. Of course, it won’t be integrated into the groups, activity feeds, etc… it would just be a WordPress page with downloads on it… but one of those plugins might serve as a stop-gap for you for now.
If you really want/need free social networking software that is more feature complete now… right now… try Elgg. But it doesn’t have nearly the same amount of developer interest, buzz and support… it’s no where near as user-friendly… and creating a theme that does anything more than change a few background colors and images is next to impossible. I did a lot of research into these two options and BuddyPress… even with the limits of it’s current 1.0 feature set… was the hands down winner. No contest.’
Finally, you say you don’t care if something if free or paid for… you only care about the final product. Well, if that’s the case, there are literally scores of commercial web applications out there right now that do similar things… socially networked Wiki’s, Intranets, etc… but most of them are very expensive. Look at SocialText, Telligent, Confluence, ClearSpace, MindTouch, Thought Farmer… and on and on. Tons of them. Some are more Wiki-like with some social stuff added and some are more Facebook like with some Wiki stuff added… but there is certainly no shortage of commercial options out there.

ParticipantBurt, I’m not seeing bbpress post show up in sitewide activity, although everything else seems to be working fine. Could you point me to where you set the hook to stuff topic and post creation into activity so that I could try to run down the problem? Thanks.

MemberI’m having the same issue regarding the buddypress welcome widget.
I have buddypress working 100% on server_1 and I moved it to server_2.
I used gzip through SSH to compress the html directory containing the entire WordPress Mu and Buddypress installation. Then I used scp through SSH to transfer the tarball to server_2 and then extracted it.
I exported the MySQL database from server_1, and opened it in Notepad++. I did a search and replace for the olddomain.com changing it to the newdomain.com. I also search and replaced the directory path from /usr/local/apache/htdocs to /var/www/html. Then I imported the database to server_2 in a table with the same name as the old server, then edited the wp-config.php to use the new database.
In theory all this should work, but the only thing that isn’t is the text on the welcome widget, I can change it etc but it only displays the first character. Other widgets save and work fine, it’s seems to be just an issue with this one. I also haven’t altered any of the core files. I’ve also tried removing commas, etc in the MySQL for the welcome widget content portion before importing it.
I’m going to tinker with it further, such as disabling all widgets/plugins before moving the database to the new server, then enabling them. I know WordPress suggests this when migrating to a new server, although I have never needed to before. I’m using WordPress Mu 2.7.1 and Buddypress 1.0.
Thanks for any ideas.

ParticipantI’m surprised to still see things like the articles of the BP blog spilling over the right sidebar
If you are using a custom theme, that may be the reason. If you are using the default BP theme, then please start a new thread so that we may investigate.
However, the display issue that you’re describing does not equate to BP being “way too buggy.”
the fact there still isn’t a funding system for the development of plugins and features. The idea of funding is like taboo or something
BuddyPress is an open source project. As such, you are free to provide financial assistance to any plugin developer who is willing to take it. In fact, some developers have a “Please Donate” badge on their websites.
Having this website facilitate such donations is beyond scope of the project. It would create a management nightmare as tax code could potentially require the reporting of such distributed fees and the paying of taxes on collected fees. This is a volunteer run site. Any distraction away from supporting BP would lessen the quality of our users’ support resolution.

ParticipantWhat is available lets the individual bloggers ( who are part of a buddypress-wmu site) choose individual themes for their respective blogs or for their admin areas.
However, if they want to see their buddypress site from a set of exclusive-buddypress themes there seems no way they can do that or the site super admin can allow them to do that.
I read docs as much as I could and searched as much as I can but apparently there seems to be no solution unless someone provides some way around.

KeymasterThe beauty of opensource is as long as you give credit where it’s due, you’re free to distribute anything that’s part of the GPL, which WordPress and BuddyPress are.
Unless Andy chimes in and feels otherwise, I don’t see the harm in it.

ParticipantI have resolved this issue. The members search did not work because members are not included in the search unless they have at least one piece of profile info filled out.
I had an issue with the “Edit Profile” page (https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2991) which had this knock on effect tot he member search.
Thanks for your reply!

ParticipantThat’s not a bad idea. As you can probably tell, all I did for this was change the layout and then work back in the default member theme’s css. I could just copy all of their css and do the same thing.
