ParticipantRegarding my ‘thinking out-loud’ point above about figuring out how to implement a consolidated theme across all buddypress blogs and the main page …
This morning, as I was clicking on the CNN site, and I noticed they have a bunch of different individual & topical blogs. I wanted to see how they unified the look and feel, so I clicked on several different ones. What they have there is just a simplified layout of their main site … essentially, a subset of the main page layout. So it (finally) occurred to me that what I can do for this is
1. Figure out template setup basics, enough to …
2. Put together a basic template that uses the same color, font, and graphical components from the site’s main theme, but is a very basic theme, not one that is buddypress ready. It will look like it is the same theme, but that will be a deliberate coincidence.
* I can hardcode widget and/or custom code into there as necessary
* I imagine this part can get tricky, but it does some reasonable to do.
3. Make this template the default for all new users
I acknowledge this is probably not such a revelation to many of the WPress initiated … but for me, it took some time and mental crunching to get to this conclusion. From my humble newbie vantage point
, it does seem like it could be a useful consideration if users have their own blogs.

The plugin DJPaul linked to alters the behavior of WPMU’s registration process which is controlled by wp-signup.php.
When using BuddyPress, you have a choice to either use WPMU’s registration script or the alternate one found in the home theme–register.php. More information in this thread

I was actually looking into that app, but does it work for the “Register” page that BuddyPress creates?

ParticipantAran-
You are correct. Andy has themed the BuddyPress forum theme to look just like the rest of BP.org.
At this time, he does not plan on releasing this theme. He wants to keep the bp.org brand distinctive. Imagine if many of the new BP installs used this theme. It might confuse people when coming to BP.org. BP.org needs to maintain a unique identity. It is, after all, the place where everyone else comes for guidance.
Of course, everyone is free to style their own theme.

ParticipantI am having a similar problem:
Request Friend
/members/username/
Ajax keeps spinning. Firebug is saying 404 was returned but returning the following response:
Members Home Widget
Newest | Active | Popular
Ajax keeps spinning. Firebug is saying 404, but also returning results which is quite odd.
/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-ajax-handler.php
Versions:
MU 2.7.1
BuddyPress
FF 3.0.10
OSX Leopard 10.5.7
It’s quite easy to see with firebug on the homepage:

ParticipantIf an intentional design decision then it is a poor one!
This has nothing to do with BuddyPress. It has all to do with the design and styling of the theme you are using. Switch to the default BuddyPress themes (bphome and bpmember) and you will see this problem go away.
Talk with the person who designed your theme.

ParticipantWith trying buddypress & modifying still i agree that buddypress.org theme is really awesome and almost things work more easy, as people who might have seen for them the cool color and background mix match with blue topic font is what buddypress and if at all it is released people will be more interested to put with out modification.
Even i am looking for the same, although it might be told 2000 times or what ever no of times… Any way if any one can help me how & what to make changes to be like buddypress.org front page.

ParticipantSorry, not sure which thread to post this in now!
So buddypress.org is clearly running a version of the BuddyPress default theme (with blue instead of orange) that has also been ported to bbPress – is that right?
Would it be possible to release that as a bbPress theme?
Or has that perhaps (crossing fingers!) already been done somewhere?
Thanks for any input…

KeymasterIt’s hiding under the ‘Developers’ menu section – direct link is https://buddypress.org/extend/plugins/. Of course, I would expect 99.9% of WPMU plugins to work too.

Jeff Sayre
ParticipantI have read that I should follow the “BuddyPress” option under “Site Admin” menu, in order to change the member theme.
That is outdated information. If you are using BuddyPress 1.0 and have the bpmember folder installed in /wp-content/bp-themes/, then what I described is correct.
Log in to WPMU’s backend as site admin, then go to “BuddyPress > General Settings > Select theme to use for BuddyPress generated pages”. After selecting a member theme, make sure you hit the “Save Settings” button.

Yes, but the thing is, I have read that I should follow the “BuddyPress” option under “Site Admin” menu, in order to change the member theme.
I am still unable to change the user theme.
How can I change the member theme ?

KeymasterThere’s a plugin for WordPress to do this already, and there will be a language switcher plugin that is BuddyPress safe soon.

KeymasterThis has been done similarly in various forum software. Wouldn’t be too hard to adapt to fit WordPress/BuddyPress.
I say do it.

ParticipantHi Trent:
Then why does BuddyPress make a Password field on registration? Doesn’t it seem a bit odd it would be like this? And is there some plugin that allows this that you know of?

ParticipantJames-
At this time, BuddyPress only works with WordPress Multiuser (WPMU) version 2.7.1. You will have to install it yourself, which is really the only way that it should be done. It is never wise to use a one-button install service to install complex software platforms.
Now, whether your hosting plan will be of sufficient horsepower to successfully run WPMU is a different issue. For this issue you can search the WPMU forums.

The buddybar was displaying fine before I upgraded from my .9 build. Now with 1.0 rc2 I’m experiencing an unusual phenomenon
Currently, it is recommended that you stick with bbPress 1.0-alpha-6. See this thread.
This could be a bug with bbPress 1.0-RC-2. I suggest starting a thread on the bbPress forum for this issue if one is not already started.

Nope, no custom functions – It’s a brand new install. And you may classify a page being “blank” different then I would. It doesn’t show a blank white page, what you are describing is correct. However, for a bogus URL, shouldn’t it show something like this?

If you are interested in providing your services, the contact information is in the OP’s thread.
Please remember, if you need help implementing a WPMU+BuddyPress site or have development services to offer, you should post on the BuddyPress Job Board or directly PM a member.
