ParticipantWhat version bp? I think I\’ll just put that on a hotkey combo.

Uninstall the blog component if you are talking about the various vertical menu options in the member theme.
Remove the line in the member theme /buddypress-member/header.php that looks like this:
<li<?php if ( bp_is_page( BP_HOME_BLOG_SLUG ) ) [snip]That\’s line 41 r1360 if you are talking about the header nav items.

April 21, 2009 at 5:03 am #43085In reply to: capabilities.php fatal error on line 920
Burt Adsit
ParticipantWhatever is going on it’s not the capabilities.php file that is the issue. What version bp and wpmu are you attempting to install. Install wpmu first and get that to run. If wpmu isn’t operating correctly then bp will not.
1) What version wpmu. Specifically wpmu 2.7 or wpmu 2.7.1 beta?
2) How are you configuring wpmu? subdirectory, or subdomain?
3) Are you installing wpmu in a subdirectory of the document root or in the document root?
4) When does this error occur?
5) Can you create blogs in wpmu and reach them?
6) Does creating new blog posts in each blog work and can you pull them up and view them?
7) Is this shared hosting or on a DV?
Have things been working all along just fine and now this error for no apparent reason?9) Disable all plugins and try doing whatever it was that lead to this error. Does the same thing happen.
10) Disable buddypress and try doing whatever it was that lead to this error. Does the same thing happen.
We could use some more details.

April 21, 2009 at 1:24 am #43080In reply to: bp_get_field_data no longer working
Burt Adsit
ParticipantIf you upgrade your theme to the version that is in RC2 you can take advantage of the new member template functions that are available to you. The directories now have their own little templates located in /buddypress-member/directories/<directorytype>/<directorytype>-loop.php file.
Then all the template tags you find in /bp-core/bp-core-templatetags.php are available to you. That particular function you were using doesn’t exist anymore. The underlying call still works which is:
BP_XProfile_ProfileData::get_value_byfieldname( $field, $user_id );
so
BP_XProfile_ProfileData::get_value_byfieldname( ‘One Line Summary’, $user->user_id );
Should work. I encourage you to look at the new directory code and templates.

Burt Adsit
ParticipantAre you using the wpmu 2.7.1 beta and bp trunk? The error leads me to believe one or the other isn’t so. See in here: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2190 there’s a post about getting the most recent bp and wpmu.
You might want to talk to the theme author. Perhaps they have seen this error in relation to the theme before.

Jeff Sayre
ParticipantOkay, first a couple of questions:
I have a fairly vanilla instance of the latest wpmu release…
- What does this mean? The latest release of WPMU is 2.7. Is that what you’re running?
- Also, which BuddyPress trunk revision are you running?
- Are you running any other plugins besides BuddyPress?
- Did you follow all the instructions in the first post of this thread that pertain to custom themes?
- Did you read post eight in this thread?
Regarding the code line that seems to be throwing the problem, that would indicate that you do not have the proper permissions set on the blogs.dir directory. See question 5 above.

?
ParticipantWell, bad news for me, but maybe good news for you.
The bad news is I didn’t made it into the GSoC; but the good news is that there is a proposal by other student that aims to implement photo albums into WordPress, so hopefully we’ll see this working in BuddyPress in the future.

ParticipantI need to figure this out as well. I think this thread has some clues.
How does this work in WPMU/BP? Where are the queries anyway? Should we use WPMU/BP specific tags/code instead? Are there code examples of common database requests somewhere?
Any pointers are very much appreciated.

Trent, thank you sooo much!
But where do I put the plugin, and is there a specific name it should be?

ParticipantInstead of talking, which we don\’t seem to be nicola created this while we were arguing on irc: http://buddypress.pastebin.com
I’m using that until whatever happens, happens. I started it with wpmu to wp abstraction functions. Functions that exist only in wpmu but have wp counterparts: get_blog_post($blog_id, $post_id) gets implemented as get_post($post_id). Things like that.

ParticipantI’m a Media Temple fan – in my opinion it has some of the best control panel features available, and it’s GridServer(gs) is fantastic for a shared server. It is also very easy to upgrade from a (gs) to any of their higher hosting plans.
I’ve been using MT for about 4 or 5 years now and I’ve never had an issue. They are a little pricey, but I think you get what you pay for and more.

see: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=1969&replies=2#post-10463
Sorry for the late reponse. Your post got ‘spammed’ by akismet because of number of links in the post. The plugins in /mu-plugins don’t need a plugin header like that. Your code will translate better in the forums with backticks before and after.

ParticipantWell, only the site admin(s) can activate or deactivate the BuddyPress plugin. So, members should not be able to selectively enable or disable individual components.
April 20, 2009 at 3:44 am #43018In reply to: Nifty registration page
Jeff Sayre
ParticipantRegister.php is a BuddyPress file whereas wp-signup.php is a WPMU file. If you use register.php, then wp-signup is automatically not used. In other words, you use one or the other. To choose to use wp-signup.php, you would need to delete register.php from your theme.
Many people have issues customize wp-signup.php. Therefore, I’d recommend using register.php and customize that file instead.

ParticipantWell, I’ll chime in here. I prefer Slicehost.
It’s not for everyone. In fact, it’s not for most people. It is for us techie guys that want to control absolutely everything. It’s a company built by software developers for software developers.
When you purchase a slice, you have to install (yourself) the server OS, the web server, database servers, mail client, web packages, your custom files, etcetera. You are in total control of the environment. You basically build your own production box from scratch–although you actually are in control of a virtual machine on one of their servers unless you buy all the slices on a give physical box.
Blah, blah, blahbity, blah…
If any of this scares you, then Slicehost is not for you.
