This is not a file you can edit directly as it would be over-written with any plugin updates.

Try wrapping your call to bp_is_active() in a function hooked to something like wp.

For example:

add_action( 'wp', function() {
    // Call bp_is_active() here
} );

You need to do this because it’s likely your plugin is loaded before BuddyPress, hence the bp_is_active() function isn’t defined at that point.

I can replicate your issue, yet I use the same line in my own plugins without error. The only difference is that I look for bp from within a function and I’m thinking this may be the issue, basically wp thinks bp is not active when you are in the plugins page.

Try wrapping your query in a function tied into your buddypress task.

Ha, that’s because there was an extra semi-colon. Try this:

What I was saying about roles is that WordPress handles roles. BuddyPress doesn’t create or really use them that much.

BuddyPress does not implement a minimum age, would this be a feature of your theme?

Copy BuddyPress folder from your parent theme and paste them into the child theme and modify inside child theme at following path

buddypress/members/register.php or
buddypress/registration/register.php

That depends on where you’re using it. You could use a bp_signup_validate filter to check that a username has certain characteristics. But for profile fields or other places, you’d have to enforce it some other way.

Here’s an example of how you might disalloe long usernames:

Maybe you could use friend relationships for this. If the “friend” terminology doesn’t make sense for your use, there is a plugin that creates one-way relationships called “follows” https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-followers/

It looks like your buddypress/members/register.php file is based on an old version of the template (that had the field description hardcoded in the template). You’ll need to remove this line:
<p class="description"><?php bp_the_profile_field_description(); ?></p>

in that file.

There is an issue with hotmail/outlook rejecting activation emails (See the fix here: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/11862).
