ModeratorSounds like its located in plugins/buddypress/bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/members/single/profile.
This is not a file you can edit directly as it would be over-written with any plugin updates.
Instead you will need to perform a template overload:

ModeratorTry wrapping your call to
bp_is_active()in a function hooked to something likewp.For example:
add_action( 'wp', function() { // Call bp_is_active() here } );You need to do this because it’s likely your plugin is loaded before BuddyPress, hence the
bp_is_active()function isn’t defined at that point.February 28, 2018 at 6:19 pm #271110Venutius
ModeratorI can replicate your issue, yet I use the same line in my own plugins without error. The only difference is that I look for bp from within a function and I’m thinking this may be the issue, basically wp thinks bp is not active when you are in the plugins page.
Try wrapping your query in a function tied into your buddypress task.

ParticipantUpdate: I split this into two files: the plugin header, the function my_plugin_init() and the add_action into an initthisplugin.php, and the rest into myPlugin.php
Now myPlugin.php gets loaded, since buddypress is active, but stills throws an Fatal error: Call to undefined function bp_is_active().

ParticipantI can’t personally answer that as it’s obviously down to the Buddypress development team(!) but as mentioned above, the fix which can be found here – https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/attachment/ticket/7674/7674.01.patch works perfectly well in the meantime…

KeymasterHi there-
There’s a known issue with outlook/hotmail emails being rejected:
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/7697#comment:7A fix is forthcoming (but there’s no timetable for that update).
February 28, 2018 at 4:43 pm #271100In reply to: deny access to subscriber profile
David Cavins
KeymasterHa, that’s because there was an extra semi-colon. Try this:
add_action( 'wp', function() { if ( bp_is_profile() ) { $user_meta = get_userdata( bp_displayed_user_id() ); if ( in_array( 'subscriber', $user_meta->roles ) ) { wp_redirect( home_url() ); exit; } } }, 1 );What I was saying about roles is that WordPress handles roles. BuddyPress doesn’t create or really use them that much.

ModeratorBuddyPress does not implement a minimum age, would this be a feature of your theme?

ParticipantThanks for the reply David. That does make sense, and I have friends and followers set up. I am now looking to extend that capability to show select friends/followers on the users profile page. I want to get one more way that users can find new users and for that I was hoping to have a section in the profile that people could put friends profile links that they choose. Does that sound like something that Buddypress has a plugin for?
Thanks in advance.

Participant@nebuchadnezzar no need to modify anything inside BuddyPress core files, You have to modify template files inside your child theme.
Copy BuddyPress folder from your parent theme and paste them into the child theme and modify inside child theme at following path
buddypress/members/register.php or
buddypress/registration/register.phpYou can check following for reference

Thank you very much for your help.
I contacted my theme developer, and they mentioned that they changed the theme to version 5 but forgot to update the BuddyPress profile page template.
Everything is fixed now, so thank you for your help 🙂

ParticipantHi,
I removed that code from the file in the following path, yet the issue persists
public_html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/registration/register.phpis there another file with a different path?

David Cavins
KeymasterThat depends on where you’re using it. You could use a
bp_signup_validatefilter to check that a username has certain characteristics. But for profile fields or other places, you’d have to enforce it some other way.Here’s an example of how you might disalloe long usernames:
add_action('bp_signup_validate', function() { if ( isset( $_POST[ 'signup_username' ] ) && strlen( $_POST[ 'signup_username' ] ) > 60 ) { $bp = buddypress(); $bp->signup->errors['signup_username'] = 'Geez, your username is really long.'; } } );February 26, 2018 at 9:09 pm #271051In reply to: Group user list doesn’t work correctly

KeymasterMaybe you could use friend relationships for this. If the “friend” terminology doesn’t make sense for your use, there is a plugin that creates one-way relationships called “follows” https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-followers/

KeymasterIf you are asking about bbPress, try the bbPress forum.
If you’re asking about removing the BuddyPress email verification step for new accounts, there are several plugins that do that:

David Cavins
KeymasterIt looks like your
buddypress/members/register.phpfile is based on an old version of the template (that had the field description hardcoded in the template). You’ll need to remove this line:
<p class="description"><?php bp_the_profile_field_description(); ?></p>in that file.

KeymasterThere is an issue with hotmail/outlook rejecting activation emails (See the fix here: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/11862).
Otherwise, the best way to customize your emails is explained here: https://codex.buddypress.org/emails/
February 26, 2018 at 8:29 pm #271042David Cavins
KeymasterThere’s a known issue with hotmail/outlook addresses that will be addressed in the next minor update. You can see the fix here:
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/11862That may be your issue. If not, please provide more information.
