    I use BuddyPress with Varnish and everything works fine.
    You can set “Cache-Control” to 0 maybe for forums ?

    <?php header("Cache-Control: max-age=0"); ?>

    Hi, thanks. That seemed to do it!

    Is there any membership plugin you recommend to use with BuddyPress? In your experience how compatible is buddyboss?

    You might also want to view the following thread to see if it might be related to your problem:

    Nobody responded because a fresh BuddyPress install does not exhibit this problem and you didn’t provide enough details.

    You can try disabling all your plugins except BuddyPress or changing your theme to see if the problem is with a plugin or theme.

    This is not a BuddyPress problem.

    Try stripping down your install to just BuddyPress or disable any membership or authentication plugins you might have and try again.

    If you do not want BP avatars, just remove BP’s avatar filter:

    remove_filter( 'get_avatar_url', 'bp_core_get_avatar_data_url_filter', 10, 3 );

    This is assuming you are using BuddyPress 2.9.

    UPDATE: I ended up removing all of IIS, and am now using XAMPP, on which the BuddyPress member page shows up fine. I never figured out why it wouldn’t work on IIS.

    Hi there,

    We are currently working on a brand new website for our eSports community.

    This requires some customizations to BuddyPress. We are currently renaming rverything related to BuddyPress ‘Groups’ to ‘Teams and ‘Members’ to ‘Players’.

    Now this worked for almost everything, besides of the group creation URLs.
    e.g. …/step/group-details/ -> …/step/team-details/

    Does anybody know how we can manage to fix the URL-Renaming issue?

    Thank you very much for your help!

    Best regards,

    I now found this thread which seems to be the source of my problem.
    https://buddypress.org/support/topic/only-administrator-can-change-avatar/

    Trying it out now. Sadly its closed and even sadder, there is no “solution”.

    If this thread is correct, then the problem occurs because of a redirect that forbids “regular users” to enter WP Admin.

    Does anybody have a solution for this?

    Thank you very much.

    I have installed the plugin from this link:
    http://donmik.com/en/how-to-disable-richtext-editor-for-textarea-buddypress-field-type/

    then I can disabled the rich-text from the backend, but if I am conected like a user I can not see the change I am seeing a rich-text not a plain-text like when I am log in as the admin.

    I have remove the cookies, but the problem persists.

    I need to install also the plugin of this othe rlink?:
    https://github.com/donmik/bp-xprofile-custom-textarea/releases/tag/0.1.1

    I only want plain text for buddypress user profiles.

    Best regards

    No I’m busy focussing on the bbPress items for starters, topics and replies as of now.

    I have disabled all activity_items to the stream by default except topics and replies. I want to add more items but one at a time and controlled. A BuddyPress site can become overkill feature wise very fast because everything is so connected and relative with each other.

    Topics and replies in the stream.

    This has been filed as a bug, but was too late to make v2.9:
    https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/7569

    There is a patch attached with a fix if you want to fix this temporarily.

    Hi again,
    this is the last answer from my customer:

    Hi Andrea,

    i deactivate all my plugins except BuddyPress, WooCommerce, YITH Frontend Manager for WooCommerce Premium and YITH WooCommerce Multi Vendor Premium, and i remove my theme’s functions.php and bp-custom.php ( the buddypress file customisation ) but i have the same issue, the probleme disappears only when i deactivate YITH Frontend Manager for WooCommerce Premium.

    Watch the video to understund.

    http://recordit.co/EDtXjDOCI9

    i think it’s an ajax issue ,the problem occurs when i’m in buddypress page and I click on a button that requires ajax, only when i’m connected with vendro account.

    http://recordit.co/ncfABt1ErP
    in the 2nd video yith frontend manager is deactivated

    http://recordit.co/97vyc8reeI
    in the 3rd video it’s in my local environment with an other theme

    I hope this has helped you

    have a good night
    Ahmed

    Do you have another idea ? I have tried to replicate the issue but without success, if you want I can send a copy of our plugins…probably you understand how replicate this issue.

    Let me know.
    Thanks

    Have a nice day

    Hi! I did follow the documentation. You’re right that those two pages work. Both of those pages use a certain template within the theme. That template uses a full-width page, without the sidebar and search bar that are on other pages. I’ve a few things to see what can remedy the matter:

    1) Yes, I switched to a different template to test, and yes, on the 2016 template, BP works, so I don’t need to reinstall BP or get it working on its own. That part is working. I didn’t realize I’d have to reset all of my widgets and stuff. Fortunately, they weren’t deleted… Got those set up again.

    2) I tried making all other relevant pages, creating pages for the stuff that BP uses, and setting each of those to use the template that works for Activity, Members, and Chapters. That didn’t work, though.

    3) I tried creating a Custom CSS entry that uses the .buddypress class, telling it to use full-width for #primary. That made the page use full-width, but it didn’t make the functionality of BP work… Like on this page:
    https://www.philosophersinamerica.com/chapters/create/step/group-details/

    Please help! I’ve reached out to my theme’s creator – and there’s no changing to a different theme. We’re super committed and it works really well for everything else, and he’s had no experience using BuddyPress. I need help! This is just the plugin I’ve been looking for to help my people create groups that they need to manage.

    It seems to me that if we’re able to get some of the pages to work there’s GOT to be a way to get other relevant pages to use whatever that same setting is to work also. Any help would be hugely appreciated.
    Best,

    Eric

    I just don’t know what impact this will have on overal performance when I go wish in other tables for content.

    It depends. WordPress and BuddyPress do a great job when it comes to optimising queries but there are things that will cause a big site to simply fall over (the meta_value column isn’t indexed for example so meta querying could be problematic).

    Some BP pages load as expected:

    http://www.philosophersinamerica.com/activity/
    http://www.philosophersinamerica.com/members/

    Did you follow the documentation?

    Configure BuddyPress

    To determine if the issue is related to your theme, try switching momentarily to a WP theme like 2016 and see if the issues persist.

    get_post() will get a WordPress post from the wp_posts table. This is different to a BuddyPress activity item which is stored in the wp_bp_activity table.

    Try with this:

    function tubs_sanitize_user($username, $raw_username, $strict) {
        $new_username = strip_tags($raw_username);
        // Kill octets
        $new_username = preg_replace('|%([a-fA-F0-9][a-fA-F0-9])|', '', $new_username);
        $new_username = preg_replace('/&.?;/', '', $new_username); // Kill entities

       // If strict, reduce to ASCII for max portability.
       if ( $strict )
            $new_username = preg_replace('|[^a-z0-9 _.\-@+]|i', '', $new_username);

        return $new_username;
    }
    add_filter( 'sanitize_user', 'tubs_sanitize_user', 10, 3);

    Source

    Or try with this:

    // Force Strong Username
    function strong_username() {
     global $bp;

     if ( !empty( $_POST['signup_username'] ) )
       if ( !valid_username( $_POST['signup_username'] ) ){
        $bp->signup->errors['signup_username'] = __( 'Your username is not strong enough. Use uppercase, lowercase, numbers and special chars like - _', 'bp-strong-username-password', 'buddypress' );
       }
     }
     add_action( 'bp_signup_validate', 'strong_username');

     function valid_username($candidate) {
       $r1='/[A-Z]/';  //Uppercase
       $r2='/[a-z]/';  //lowercase
       $r3='/[0-9]/';  //numbers
       $r4='/[-_]/'; //Special chars, underscore...

       if(preg_match_all($r1,$candidate, $o)<1) return FALSE;
       if(preg_match_all($r2,$candidate, $o)<1) return FALSE;
       if(preg_match_all($r3,$candidate, $o)<1) return FALSE;
       if(preg_match_all($r4,$candidate, $o)<1) return FALSE;
       if(strlen($candidate)<6) return FALSE;

       return TRUE;
    }
