    Thanks Jeff Sayre! The plugin claims to be compatible up to 2.7.1 and explicitly mentions Buddypress, so that looks promising.

    @paulrostorp-1, don’t count on me to write a plugin anytime soon! I’m not a PHP coder. I want to look into this, but have some other issues higher on the to do list.

    Here’s a start to get you part way there:

    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/limit-blogs-per-user/

    Note: I have no idea whether this plugin works with newer versions of WPMU and BP

    Also, you could modify the code found here:

    I’m getting the same error as matthijsv, fatal error at line 37 of the plugin file.

    I have deep integration working as I can post from BuddyPress or bbPress.

    WPMU 2.7.1

    BuddyPress 1.0.2

    bbPress 1.0.1

    Any suggestions?

    Props to r-a-y and John James Jacoby (the latter of whom put up with my self-inflicted stupidity that made me … whinge)

    My layout is pretty much what I want, and everything appears to be working, so it’s time to look at the non-essential, but gosh that’s weird problem.

    If you go to my forums, the ‘BuddyPress’ link on the top left is vertically weirded. Which is the only way I can describe it. Should I just beat it into submission with css, and assume it’s a css conflict of names?

    Decided to move forward with installing & integrating BBPress, only to find that the BuddyPress installation guide (which had a link to the BBPress integration) is missing!

    The link http://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-buddypress/ returns:

    “This blog has been archived or suspended.”

    Anyone have a link to the guide for installing/integrating BBPress with BP?

    Thanks

    Currently using:

    WPMU 2.7.1

    BBPRESS 1.0.1

    BPPRESS 1.0.2

    BPDEV Core 0.3

    WPMU bbPress Integration 1.0

    BBPRESS BuddyPress Support Plugin v1.0-RC1

    Well, I am about to throw my arms up, I am now so baffled and confused.

    I had all the group forum discussions working great and then suddenly, it just stopped working after I updated to BBPRESS 1.0.1.

    Basically, I have followed all the directions about trying to get the forum discussions to work in groups, and I had it working, and was able to previously post before. But, when I updated the BBPRESS to 1.0.1, I found that I was unable to make any new posts in the existing forum discussions in any group created, even in new groups created.

    So, I decided to start from scratch, New SQL Databases, new usernames, new passwords, the whole 9 yards.

    – I installed the WPMU 2.7.1

    – I installed the BBPRESS 1.0.1

    – Everything works fine at that point.

    – I went into the wp_config.php and the bb_config and placed in the following as normal (Keep in mind, that I have now done this 30 times.)

    wp_config:

    define(‘AUTH_KEY’, ‘XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX’);

    define(‘SECURE_AUTH_KEY’, ‘XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX’);

    define(‘LOGGED_IN_KEY’, ‘XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX’);

    define(‘NONCE_KEY’, XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX’);

    define(‘AUTH_SALT’, XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX’);

    define(‘LOGGED_IN_SALT’, ‘XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX’);

    define(‘SECURE_AUTH_SALT’, ‘XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX’);

    define( ‘COOKIE_DOMAIN’, ‘.mywebsite.com’ );

    define( ‘SITECOOKIEPATH’, ‘/’ );

    define( ‘COOKIEPATH’, ‘/’ );

    define( ‘COOKIEHASH’, ‘XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX’ );

    and

    bb_config

    define( ‘BB_AUTH_KEY’, ‘XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX’ );

    define( ‘BB_SECURE_AUTH_KEY’, XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX’);

    define( ‘BB_LOGGED_IN_KEY’, ‘XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX’ );

    define( ‘BB_NONCE_KEY’, ‘XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX’ );

    define(‘BB_AUTH_SALT’, ‘XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX’);

    define(‘BB_LOGGED_IN_SALT’, ‘XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX’);

    define(‘BB_SECURE_AUTH_SALT’, ‘XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX’);

    define( ‘WP_AUTH_COOKIE_VERSION’, 1 );

    – All of that worked fine, I was able to remain logged in from either WPMU and BBPRESS, so all the settings were correct in those two files.

    – Next, I installed the WPMU BBPRESS Integration Plugin, and I set those settings up with:

    bbPress URL : http://mywebsite.com/forums/

    Your plugins URL : http://mywebsite.com/forums/bb-plugins

    Wordpress type : WordPress MU

    – I then took the manual settings listed on that page and inserted them properly into the wp_config.php and the bb_config.php file.

    – Next I installed the BBPRESS – BuddyPress Support Plugin made by Andy Peatling, and I placed that file in the bb-plugins folder, although I have also tested in the bbpress’s my-plugins folder too, but it seems to mostly work in bb-plugins folder. I don’t believe there are any settings that I can see for this plugin.

    – In BBPRESS, I go to WordPress Integration:

    I set the following settings:

    User Role Map

    WordPress Administrator – bbpress Keymaster

    WordPress Editor – bbpress Moderator

    WordPress Author – bbpress Member

    WordPress Contributor – bbpress member

    WordPress Subscriber – bbpress member

    – I save those settings.

    – Then I double check my settings listed below to make sure that I have it integrated with my WordPress MU SQL database:

    WordPress address (URL) – http://mywebsite.com/

    Blog address (URL) – http://mywebsite.com/

    Show advanced settings:

    – I fill out the information pertains to my first database which was for WordPress MU.

    User database host – localhost

    User database character set – utf8

    – All that seems to work fine, because I am able to login to wordpress mu my website and then go to the forums and it keeps me logged in.

    – I set the bbpress permalinks:

    http://mywebsite.com/forums/forums.php?id=1

    – In bbpress I go to the discussion settings:

    Enable Pingbacks – Checked

    – In bbpress I go to the writing setting:

    Remote Publishing – XML-RPC – Checked

    – I go to general settings in BBPRESS

    bbPress address (URL) – http://mywebsite.com/forums/

    Now back at my WPMU section:

    – Under Writing settings:

    Size of the post box – 40 lines

    Formatting – convert smilies – checked

    Wordpress should correct invalid nested xhtml – checked

    Remote Publishing:

    Atom Publishing – unchecked

    XML-RPC – Checked

    – Under discussion settings:

    Allow pingbacks – checked

    – Under permalinks for WPMU:

    custom: /%category%/%postname%/

    Now under Buddy press settings:

    Forum settings:

    – bbPress URL – http://mywebsite.com/forums/

    – bbPress username – admin (which is the administrator account for WPMU and bbadmin is the main keymaster account for bbpress.)

    – Password – (Admin password for WPMU)

    – Cache requests – unchecked

    – Buddy Press Components – All Checked

    That’s pretty much it. After I create a new main group, it has the option for forum discussion group, and I check the box and it creates it just fine.

    But, whenever I go to try and post within that public group and I am obviuosly the main admin of that group, it comes up with an error:

    “There was an error posting that topic.”

    I have redone this like twice, created new SQL databases, new accounts, everything. I can’t imagine to tell you how many times I have reinstalled the bbpress. It doesn’t matter now which bbpress you have installed, I am still unable to post in the group forum discussions.

    Does anyone have any ideas of what I should do?

    I am so confused.

    Brian-

    You should ask this question as well in the WPMU forums as it is the WPMU registration functions that allow usernames to be created with a space in them and it is the authentication functions (when a user logs in) that then has an issue with the space.

    I do not know if this has already been addressed in a newer version of WPMU, but Andy is aware of this issue and I assume that he has communicated it to Donncha.

    You are limited in what you can do, but deleting the username is not advisable.

    You could manually edit each user account that has this issue. If you do so, you’ll of course first want to make sure you have a backup of your database. But, if you go this route, you’ll need to tell each of those affected users that you have changed their login credentials. Otherwise, they will not be able to log in.

    As far as changing the display name, that will have no affect on the username. Those are two different pieces of data.

    Since this relates to bbPress specifically, I would ask this question in the bbPress forum.

    To have the topic title as the page tittle, the topic first post as the meta description and the tags as the keyword would be ideal and really boost the seo of the forum posts.

    You should first focus on all the other things that have the greatest SEO impact (like creating quality content).

    Since you cannot control the content of your forums–it is generated by all your users after all–I think the best SEO booster for bbPress was just implemented by Sam. See this link: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/buddypress-forums-now-use-pretty-permalinks

    thanks Burt, just upgraded the forum and all these tricks are working now!

    Now I have to integrate it with buddypress groups, I guess I will lose another hours/days as I can already see an error message “There was an error posting that topic.” when I try to submit new topic via bp

    Thanks anyway for the hint in the wpmu/bbpress integration part.

    Hey guys and gals,

    I am currently using the buddy press default member theme 1.0.1.

    http://buddypress.org/wp-content/themes/buddypress.org/images/theme-screens/default-theme.jpg

    also:

    WPMU 2.7.1

    BBPRESS 1.0

    BPPRESS 1.0.2

    I have been trying to edit the following files to edit the menu that appears typically under the logo of this theme, which says, “HOME,BLOG,MEMBERS,GROUPS,EVENTS,CONTENTS”.

    I want to add an existing newly created WPMU page called,”DONATE”, which the button will appear after the CONTENTS button, or for some, after the GROUPS button.

    The Page is not numbered, and the url looks something like:

    http://mywebsite.com/donate-page/

    *This is not a real website, just an example of the url structure.

    The files I have been trying to edit to add this new button that leads to that specific mentioned page is:

    wp-content>themes>bphome>index.php;header.php

    and

    wp-content>bp-themes>bpmember>index.php;header.php

    Once, I edit these files, I notice the codes toward the bottom, which are the menu navigational codes, but they point to something called “slugs”. It also seems to hook into these slugs in some fashion. But, I have no idea how it points to these things or where it is pointing from?

    So, an example of the code might look like from header.php file:

    <?php if ( function_exists( ‘groups_install’ ) ) { ?>

    <li<?php if ( bp_is_page( BP_GROUPS_SLUG ) ) {?> class=”selected”<?php } ?>>/<?php echo BP_GROUPS_SLUG ?>” title=”<?php _e( ‘Groups’, ‘buddypress’ ) ?>”><?php _e( ‘Groups’, ‘buddypress’ ) ?>

    So, how do I incorporate a link into a slug, or how do I create a slug? or what do I change or add after this code to get my own menu button that points to the donate page I mentioned above. I created the page through WPMU create page in the admin dashboard.

    What files do I edit to make this work, and can anyone please tell me the codes that I input to make this work?

    Thanks so much for anyones help in this matter, it is truly appreciated.

    Hi There

    I have installed the buddypress bar for the forums . But i am not getting any link displaying, just the css, the actual buddypress menus are not there.

    Click here for the forums

    Click here for the wordpress install

    We have used the deep integration and i have added the lines to my bb-config.php, the path to the file is correct.

    I have added the two functions ie

    add_action( 'bb_head', 'bp_core_add_js' );
    add_action( 'bb_admin_head', 'bp_core_add_js');

    You can ignore the “invite new member” link on the top right hand side, its just a div postioned as absolute.

    I forgot to mention my installation details:

    1) wpmu 2.7.1

    2) buddypress 1.0

    3) bbpress 0.9.0.4

    Also, I think this might be very important thing. When I am loged in to forum as an forumadmin and I go in another tab to wp-admin page, I’ve got this message straight away on my screen: “Please log in again.”. Even before I type something………

    Hey guys,

    I’m new here, I have been checking out this website for a while and the past few days I have been working hard, trying to get everything to work. It’s not easy, I must say. A lot of things are still not working, and I still have a gazillion questions, which I will ask in the near future, so far, I really love this Buddypress.

    Anyway, guys, I’m sure you all are familiar with the option that Facebook, has to leave “what’s on your mind” updates (aka status updates), similar to what you can do in Buddypress.

    Is there an option to tweak some files perhaps, so it’s possible to leave comments on someone else’s status updates? I’d really love that option.

    Thanks a lot.

    This is almost like a sci-fi movie! The system continues to learn, and not from users logging in to the system. At 3 pm, there were 250 members listed in the Member directory by counting each of the listings for all of the letters. By 7:30 pm, there were 300 members listed in the Member directory. Since our Buddypress folder is login protected, no one has accessed the yet to be announced social network.

    But I am also shocked by something else – user avatars are starting to populate the member directory profiles and yet because of our member login script, I can see who has logged in to our website and it has been all of three people this afternoon.

    This makes me think there is some external wordpress connection where people who have a wordpress account somewhere else have their avatars associated with an identical email to those profiles in our Buddypress installation.

    This would also give logic to Andy’s explanation that the member’s appear after they have logged in. If those members are wordpress enabled somewhere else and are logging in, perhaps their profiles are suddenly populating the Member Directory.

    Does that make sense? I certainly hope so because otherwise I will freak that there is a security breach in the system.

    Fixing the username with a space in it – what are the options?

    1. Delete the user and fix the username in the external database?

    2. Change the settings in the site admin ‘users’ for the display name?

    I ask because I have endured 4 system crashes and I am less than eager to recrash. Does the system remember the email addee if the user has been deleted, or is the entire user record wiped from the db tables?

    Thanks everyone for your thoughts, in advance, and thanks to Jeff Sayre for directing me to this topic.

    I have tried it, with this code

    <?php get_header(); ?>

    <div id="content" class="widecolumn">
    <h2 class="widgettitle"></h2>
    <div id="localphone">
    <?php if ( bp_has_site_groups() ) : ?>

    <div class="pag-count" id="group-dir-count">
    <?php bp_site_groups_pagination_count() ?>
    </div>

    <div class="pagination-links" id="group-dir-pag">
    <?php bp_site_groups_pagination_links() ?>
    </div>
    <?php while ( bp_site_groups() ) : bp_the_site_group(); ?>
    <?php $localPhone = bp_get_the_site_group_name() ?>;
    <?php if ($localPhone=="Manchester" || $localPhone=="Test Group") {
    echo '<dl>';
    echo '<dt><a href="http://business-chamber.com/featured-<?php bp_get_the_site_group_name() ?>/" title=""><?php bp_get_the_site_group_avatar_thumb() ?></a></dt>';
    echo '<dd><?php bp_get_the_site_group_name() ?></dd>';
    echo '</dl>';
    } else {
    echo 'hello';
    }
    ?>
    <?php endwhile; ?>

    <?php else: ?>

    <div id="message" class="info">
    <p><?php _e( 'There were no groups found.', 'buddypress' ) ?></p>
    </div>

    <?php endif; ?>

    </div>

    <?php get_footer(); ?>

    Im now getting

    ;

    ;

    hello;

    I definately have the 2 test groups there and it is doing something right, as in only returning the hello for the last one where I don’t have a || condition.
