BuddyPress can just be installed one-click from plugins page. The only thing you need is installed wpmu on your server.
Either this happens or not, it’s actually MediaTemple’s job and not something dev teams at BuddyPress does.
I’m confused.
At http://buddypress.org/about/, it is stated:
“Groups in BuddyPress are a gathering of members, blog posts, photos and any other user generated content.”
This is not currently what I have in my BuddyPress installation or many others that I have found online. There does not appear to be any way for members of groups to share their blog posts or any other user generated content. Yes I know photo galleries are coming.
Initially I was excited about moving my online community to BuddyPress because of the social networking aspects. But now that I have it installed, I have a social network which can only share forum posts and threads of consciousness called wires.
This seems very limited to me.
Am I missing something essential here?
What are the design goals behind BuddyPress?
I have the same problem. I am running 1.0 on a fresh install. The new user registration goes off successfully, but the activation email is never received. The buddypress install is at http://theindianstartup.com
Sgrunt, one thing to look at would be your padding attributes. IE hates those (almost as much as I hate IE) If you can find a way to avoid using padding, you’ll be better off in the end.
BuddyPress requires a WordPress Mu install, so no matter what, it can’t be a 1 step process (thus ruling out the 1-click install). Even if they could do it, BuddyPress lacks the history of successful version releases, support networks, and popularity that WordPress, Drupal, and ZenCart offer.
the blog search on buddypress does not seem to work at all… i was considering putting in google custom search on the top grey color bar so that it is visible from all the pages of the websites.
i tried hunting through the code but could not locate the file that has the content of the top bar…
please help!
Hello,
I know for a fact that regular WordPress can be installed on any MediaTemple hosting account using a 1click install. I was wondering if BuddyPress will be going in the same direction since the parent company that owns WP also owns BP, is such a plan in the making because it would surly make life easier.
thanx Danstinebaugh.
The BuddyDress themes are all free, but let me the time to upgrade them to the 1.0 bp version.
The problem with IE (i presume you are speaking about the resizing window) is common to every bp theme, even the default one. I think that the issue is hidden in one of the “minor” css, and it’s hard to find where is the bug. I’ve modified the main css’s, and i don’t think that they are the cause of the problem. Solving that will be great!
Hi,
I am curious whether the above plugin is still required with WPMU 2.7, Buddypress V1.0 and bbPress V1.0 RC6 (alpha).
Buddypress and bbPress seems to have improved the integration with WP in the more recent releases.

update: with wp-hooks-filters-flow.php I get the following errormessage:
82. comment_post
* Priority 10 :
1. bp_blogs_record_comment()
2. SearchUnleashedPlugin->comment_post()
Catchable fatal error: Object of class SearchUnleashed_Widget could not be converted to string in /webserver/wordpress/wp-admin/wp-hooks-filters-flow.php on line 62
Maybe anything related with the problem, breaking off the database upgrade process of buddypress?? I’m wildly guessing now since I’ve been debugging like crazy…
@Bercy Just install your WordPress MU in a different directory; create a new database, preferably with a new user for security and you\’ve got it working …
With a fresh user and database you won\’t be overwriting your existing bp\’s.
If you want to use the same userdatabase and share it serverwide, use the same database but change the prefix per buddypress installation.
Hope that has answered your question with virtual hosting & wordpress ..
I wish it was as easy to migrate existing data towards upgraded BP\’s
When you say a new BuddyPress install, do you mean a complete fresh new install of BuddyPress, allowing a separate database and user tables for each sub domain? If so, that’s a little outside the scope of what this forum provides.
You might want to try talking to some server admins and see about maybe having a VPS setup, or some kind of reseller account?
@Patriotsandheroes: Welcome to the official BuddyPress 404 club
In order to enter, your page has to be broken
Well, I should say I was trying to apply this technique to the Wire to allow img tags. No dice though. Any help would be great
Unfiltered MU did not work for me. I will try what you originally suggested, Burt
Woot WOOT!
OR, in the words of Bubb Rubb and Lil’ Sis: “Whoo whoo!”.
Hey Steve,
You certainly can PM Andy if you’d like. Also log into #buddypress on IRC, freenode as he pops his head in there quite frequently.
We’ve already got a thread somewhere talking about this, so I’m going to close this to avoid splitting the discussion.
Same problem – spinning icon when I try to add a friend.
PHP Version=5.2.9. Just installed BuddyPress and MU for first time today (May 3, so I think I have BuddyPress 1.0). Hosting at HostNine.com with typical CPanel.
Website with issue: http://3wcloud.com/wordpressmu. I have turned on the ability to add new users if you want to see what is happening.
Thanks,
Neal Walters
Hi Andy
I would have sent you a private message but I’m not sure if that can be done here. I thank you for the great work you have done on BuddyPress. I have it installed and am very happy with it.
I know you are a busy man but I (and a few others) have noticed that the BuddyPress demo has a visual verification system enabled which I assume is a plugin (perhaps you modified the one from the dev site to get it to work properly – I don’t know).
I just wanted to ask if you could please zip up whatever visual verification system you are using on the BuddyPress demo site and make it available as a download or tell us what modifications we need to make (if any) to get the one at the dev site to work like it does on the BuddyPress site.
Thanks so much for your consideration and for all you have done for Buddy
Press.
Sincerely, BPFan (Steve)
FYI, it would be similar to the service offerd by wordpress.com, thanks again
Hi, I want to create a free service for Scout Groups to use buddypress on my own website. When someone signs up, a new buddypress install is created under their usename ie. scoutgroup.adomain.com. I havnt a clue how to do this so any advice on how to would be much appreicated, thankS!
Hey! Thanks for all the work your putting in with the user feedback from all of these threads! Great to see a developer that stays in touch! Now I’ll admit so far I haven’t tried this theme out yet, other then clicking a few links from your buddydress page and checking out the few links that are actually working, and I’ve noticed most of them are not rendering properly under IE. Not that I recommend IE to anyone, however it’s still used and I wasn’t sure if it was just people trying to play with the theme’s (I see ad’s added to most of them) so I’m not sure if it’s due to other’s bad code of if is truely not rendering properly.
Either way thanks again! This is good stuff your doing and I look forward to the first free theme on buddydress!!!
