    For example http://www.beerandblog.com/members

I have the bp-themes folder in the wp-content directory. It has the themes in there. I can see and select them in the BuddyPress General Settings. Page and content shows up, but stylesheet doesn’t load. Any thoughts?

    A few questions:

    1. Are you using the public release of BuddyPress–version 1.0?
    2. Are you using a custom theme?
    3. Did you read the section entitled “Upgrading the Theme files” in this BuddyPress Codex link?

I go to someone’s profile or even the groups page or something and get nothing but this You do not have any BuddyPress themes installed. Please move “/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/” to “/wp-content/bp-themes/” and refresh this page. You can download more themes here. But I do! I don’t have /wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes, it is already in /wp-content/bp-themes/. Help please! I need it as fast as possible! I am trying to get this done soon! Thanks everyone!

    Hi DJPual-

I’m currently using (with success) the reCaptcha plugin on a dev site. I used hints from these two BP forum threads:

    https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=509

    https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=1581

    I hope that helps!

Jeff, I can’t afford a VPS. I have to go with this, but the service is much better than is usual. Think of Elgg, it requres so many things including very new MySql and PHP versons and several other stuff. My HS guys took care of it and installed it themselves for me, though it’s not under the “Script Software’.

As for WPMU, first I tried to install myself allowing all permissions for the database concerned. I had a problem, and asked the help of my HS. They installed it for me. I asked them whether they had to do anything special at their end for the installation. They said NO, just make it 0777 for wp-content and it would work. It did.

In fact, they removed several WPMU folders at my request, but at the time I had not realized that all of them were WPMU folders. I was frantically installing, deleting and re-installing all kkind of CMS and SNW softwares. When I realized it, I posted a note at a WPMU forum. The rest you know.

What happens is when I click a folder, inside I see wp-content, and then a blog folder, it goes on like that until a 2 or 2009, and then I get the error message. I go on changing prmissions as I go along, but at last I reach a point where I am not allowed to change the permission setting. Anyway, I am going to ask my HS what’s the problem involved. I will let you know.

Thnaks for your long conerned reply.

You are trying to use BuddyPress with WordPress. BuddyPress needs WordPress MU which you can get from https://mu.wordpress.org/download/. In future versions, BuddyPress will work with regular WordPress but at the moment it doesn’t.

And before you ask ‘how long’, I suspect it will be quite a while before BuddyPress supports WordPress.

I cannot activate BuddyPress 1.0 as a result of the following error:

I can log a bug in Trac if need be, but I want to be sure it’s not my setup first:

I have set up BuddyPress and it’s 99% working perfectly! Just one problem… with the images.

When we upload an image, we see it straight away and we can resize it. But then after the resizing/cropping, the image turns into a small grey box. :(

I went to “view image” to see the path (I thought it might be a permissions issue) but I saw it simply links to “The GD image library is not installed”.

I guess the problem is I do not have the GD Image Library installed on my server? :)

Can anyone advise me how to fix this?

    Hi

I need to know what captcha & antispam plugins people are using with their v1.0 BuddyPress sites. I am after a captcha-type plugin to prevent bots making spam user accounts, and also antispam for comments.

I tried reCaptcha but couldn’t get it to work as its Admin menu item wasn’t in any of the menus.

    Andrea is right.

You can either take the current BP home and member themes and customize them to integrate blogs as you wish, or you can use the BuddyPress Skeleton Template Theme files to build your own blog-centric custom BP themes.

The primary resource for learning about translating WordPress files is here: https://codex.wordpress.org/Translating_WordPress

    Also, some helpful forum threads:

    https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=171

    https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=1877

Finally, when you’ve completed your translation, it would nice if you would add and link in the codex: https://codex.buddypress.org/translations/

Assuming that you’ve upgraded your site to WPMU 2.7.1 and the newly released BuddyPress v1.0, then carefully read the section entitled “Upgrading the Theme files” in this BuddyPress Codex link.

Is the height parameter a must, or can you leave it like (800, )?

No. You cannot leave the parameter blank. You could pass a variable into the space if you wanted, but it must have something.

When I tried to remove one WPMU folder I got the error message

“500 Can’t Remove Directory. Permission denied”.

    A few questions:

    1. Have you checked the files / folder permission on your WPMU install? You should be able to delete everything that you personally upload to your public_html. Although, with shard hosting, there could be issues with apache owning certain files and folders.
    2. Are you using an automatic WordPress Mu install option from your hosting company? I’m not sure if any hosting companies offer that option for WPMU, but it’s worth asking.

The answer I got was WPMU does something at the Apache level and that I can’t do much about it unless mine is a dedicated hosting service.

    1. Have you contacted tech support for your hosting service provider and asked for their help? This WPMU forum post may prove useful in talking with tech support: https://mu.wordpress.org/forums/topic.php?id=3173&replies=3#post-19388
    2. Have you considered changing hosting companies or upgrading to a more robust hosting plan? A VPS perhaps?

WPMU really does not do too well on a cheap hosting plan. Here is sage advice from andrea_r, a WPMU guru: http://wpmututorials.com/news/choosing-a-host/

I have a new installation now.

I think the width problem is to be fixed elsewhere.

    Please consider these:

As far as figuring out what’s going on with your CSS, this is where the Firebug tool comes in very handy! It takes awhile to learn how to use it. But once you do, you can determine where a given div or class is pulling its instructions from and then temporarily override those selector parameters within Firebug and see how that affects the overall layout. It is a very powerful and useful tool!

Concerning CSS issues with IE6: my personal opinion is to not worry about supporting that browser anymore. It is just a big pain and too much work for too little return–less than 20% usage ( http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp ). Again, that is just my opinion.

One of my users changed the theme on their blog, and since then their posts aren’t displaying on the recent blog posts widget. I don’t see why changing the theme should have anything to do with it, as their blog functions perfectly well.

Has anyone experienced this before? Is there something that I need to add to the code in their theme/to the buddypress code in order to fix this?

    Thanks

Check out http://code.google.com/p/wordpress-geo-mashup/ , think about some donations and let Dylan know that u are also interested in a WPMU/Buddypress version of GeoMashup!

Here he is writing that he managed to get a first basic geoMashup Version working with WPMU/Buddypress:

    /%postname%.html

i am using this as a post slug on one of the test blogs.

    blog works fine.

but the buddypress home page shows the link with a trailing /

Importing blogs (your second bullet point) is part of WPMU and nothing to do with Buddypress. You can do this by visiting /wp-admin/import.php on your site as an admin user.

The first bullet point is something that at least person is working on, but I don’t expect to see anything released for a long time yet.

I will eat my hat if their isn’t an existing RSS widget for WordPress. Have a look through https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/.

    JEFF, THE LATEST.

I have a new installation now.

I think the width problem is to be fixed elsewhere.

    Please consider these:

    1. Immedaitely after the installation I found the Admin bar is 800px by default.

The rest of the body, starting from the top red line to the bottom silver bar, is much wider than that. The difference in the width can be clearly seen as a white ptach right of the admin bar (At buddypress.org this area is silver or light grey). It’s a blemish.

    2. This means that I don’t have to put #wp-admin-bar { width: 800px !important; } in the site-wide.css . In fact I need to put #wp-admin-bar { width: 960px !important; } instead, so that the width of the admin bar would expand to the right all the way to cover the width of the body. I don’t understand this header/body width disparity?

    3. The above is applicable to Firefox and Chrome (but making the Admin bar width 960px creates a problem with in IE6, where the whole site is set within 800px by default).

    Regards.

    hi,

I would like to have a feature that allows my members to integrate their existing blogs in Buddypress. I guess this could be done 2 ways :

    – give the user subdomain/subdir and show the RSS from the blog URL he/she points

    – import somehow all the data from his blog ( after moderation )

Also can I add RSS stream of blogs that I like ( their authors are not members of my BP ) ?

And of course I want it on the front page as a widget :)

The ‘home’ theme only affects the very front page of your Buddypress site, as well as that main site’s blog.

Members, Groups and all the other pages are controlled by the ‘member’ theme, so you need to make your changes there.

    Bonjour

Yes, it is because you or your host has the ‘open_basedir’ PHP setting. Here’s the French-language version about that setting: http://php.net/manual/fr/ini.sect.safe-mode.php#ini.open-basedir

It is stopping PHP including files. You probably need to talk to whoever provides your hosting to change this setting.
