I would like to know if its possible to install WPMU with BUDDYPRESS in a main directory of domain.com setup not subdomain. As for the members, it shows domain.com/members and for other features like blog, groups, etc but as for users’ blog. Can I modify the htaccess file or mysql to make sure every blog will be under domain.com/blogs/username instead domain.com/username?
I know it might be complicated to set it up that way. I wanted to run our own wpmu for domain.com while members will be under blogs however members and other features will be under domain.com/xxxx. Is it possible? Let me know so I can prepare my project immediately.
Thanks!
See the other thread on this, but your host is injecting ad code into the loader.php that pulls the stylesheet.

is it possible to make certain components of profiles to be viewed for members only?
Not yet. I’m working on a privacy plugin that will allow control at the profile group level. Andy is working on an overall privacy component for BuddyPress. No timeline for either.
Until then, try this: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=39
as near as I can tell,
/wp-content/themes/buddypress-home/css/loader.php
is not pulling the stylesheet properly. I would guess that the problem is coming from your host, as they are trying to inject an iframe into that page upon execution.

A general tendency (actually fad) these days is to go for bells and whistles before the basic needs are met with and the basic problems of users are solved. I hope Buddypress won\’t succumb to this. It\’s a remarkably good product.
As a new user of Buddypress, I had mentioned some basic problems but never got an answer. Some of them are:
1. The width of the site vary depending on the browser you use.
2. Under Member Directory, the alphabetical search doesn\’t work.
3. Profile pictures regularly give error reports. An automatic resizing of the picture with reference to the page concerned would have been easier for both the user and code writer.
Hi,
I’ve almost setup my college alumni website using Buddypress and everyone’s LOVING it!
I would like to allow members to search for specific profile fields. For example, Year of graduation or “Branch” (Major). I’d like to have these options in the drop down list that appears along with the search box.
How can I do this?
With IE6, I see buddypress the way I want to see it. Width 800px
With Firefox and Chrome I get a wider screen.
How to make the width 800px regardless of the browser used.
I have an issue with my buddypress installation
When viewing the homepage or a member page no CSS is loaded in chrome, firefox or safari. However the pages are displayed correctly in IE7 and opera,
Homepage – http://illdesigned.com/user/
example member page – http://illdesigned.com/user/barrymadden
I’m using godaddy economy hosting if that is relevant to this problem, is there an issue with the .htaccess file and PHP?
Please help!
I have correctly installed wordpressMU
I have installed buddypress as instructed
I have relocated the theme folders to
wp-content/themes/buddypress-home
wp-content/member-themes/buddypress-member
I have set all permissions to 755
I have enabled buddypress-home in [Site Admin] [Themes]
I have selected buddypress-home in [Appearance] [Themes]
I have selected buddypress-member in [Site Admin] [BuddyPress]
What version bp? I think I\’ll just put that on a hotkey combo.
Uninstall the blog component if you are talking about the various vertical menu options in the member theme.
Remove the line in the member theme /buddypress-member/header.php that looks like this:
<li<?php if ( bp_is_page( BP_HOME_BLOG_SLUG ) ) [snip]
That\’s line 41 r1360 if you are talking about the header nav items.

I found out. change in \plugins\buddypress\bp-activity\bp-activity-templatetags.php line 20-21 to
function bp_activity_template( $type, $user_id, $per_page, $max, $timeframe ) {
global $bp, $SHOWFRIENDS, $user_ID;
if ($SHOWFRIENDS == ‘1’) {$user_id=$user_ID;$type=’friends’;}
I wish to reduce the size of my site to 800px.
I did some changes in css files; it works in general.
but personal pages like myprofile retains the original width.
can someone help me please?
try to set permession in reading and writing on /wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-invitefriends/lib/msnAPI/ folder.

Whatever is going on it’s not the capabilities.php file that is the issue. What version bp and wpmu are you attempting to install. Install wpmu first and get that to run. If wpmu isn’t operating correctly then bp will not.
1) What version wpmu. Specifically wpmu 2.7 or wpmu 2.7.1 beta?
2) How are you configuring wpmu? subdirectory, or subdomain?
3) Are you installing wpmu in a subdirectory of the document root or in the document root?
4) When does this error occur?
5) Can you create blogs in wpmu and reach them?
6) Does creating new blog posts in each blog work and can you pull them up and view them?
7) Is this shared hosting or on a DV?
Have things been working all along just fine and now this error for no apparent reason?
9) Disable all plugins and try doing whatever it was that lead to this error. Does the same thing happen.
10) Disable buddypress and try doing whatever it was that lead to this error. Does the same thing happen.
We could use some more details.
Running MU/BuddyPress and getting this error. downloaded the latest capabilities.php from the trunk but didn’t fix the problem. Any help?

Hi,
Can someone help me. In my website I am using Buddypress simply for users to sign up and interact with each other. I disabled the blogs feature by deleting all the files related to user created blogs
. This was perfect and I still had the main blog working perfectly.
My problem is that when I delete everything the recent blog posts widget obviously deletes as well how do I show my recent posts of my main blog on the home page is this possible
Thanks in advance
/buddypress-member/profile/profile-loop.php shows usage of the xprofile template tags.
If you upgrade your theme to the version that is in RC2 you can take advantage of the new member template functions that are available to you. The directories now have their own little templates located in /buddypress-member/directories/<directorytype>/<directorytype>-loop.php file.
Then all the template tags you find in /bp-core/bp-core-templatetags.php are available to you. That particular function you were using doesn’t exist anymore. The underlying call still works which is:
BP_XProfile_ProfileData::get_value_byfieldname( $field, $user_id );
so
BP_XProfile_ProfileData::get_value_byfieldname( ‘One Line Summary’, $user->user_id );
Should work. I encourage you to look at the new directory code and templates.
Are you using the wpmu 2.7.1 beta and bp trunk? The error leads me to believe one or the other isn’t so. See in here: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2190 there’s a post about getting the most recent bp and wpmu.
You might want to talk to the theme author. Perhaps they have seen this error in relation to the theme before.
Okay, first a couple of questions:
I have a fairly vanilla instance of the latest wpmu release…
- What does this mean? The latest release of WPMU is 2.7. Is that what you’re running?
- Also, which BuddyPress trunk revision are you running?
- Are you running any other plugins besides BuddyPress?
- Did you follow all the instructions in the first post of this thread that pertain to custom themes?
- Did you read post eight in this thread?
Regarding the code line that seems to be throwing the problem, that would indicate that you do not have the proper permissions set on the blogs.dir directory. See question 5 above.

Well, bad news for me, but maybe good news for you.
The bad news is I didn’t made it into the GSoC; but the good news is that there is a proposal by other student that aims to implement photo albums into WordPress, so hopefully we’ll see this working in BuddyPress in the future.
I have a fairly vanilla instance of the latest wpmu release and latest trunk of bp. 3 plugins have been added: Facebook Connect, BP-events and eg-twitter.
With the delivered home theme (buddypress-home), when I signup I am able to specify an avatar on the initial page. Then on activation, I can correctly crop the avatar and life is good.
However, When I add a custom theme as my Home Page, I can specify an avatar on the initial page, but when I activate the account, the avatar-cropper form isn’t visible on the activation page.
I have moved over activate, register, plugin-sidebar and plugin-template to my new theme’s home directory. I also have added the three functions from functions.php to my new theme’s functions page. I have the image software installed on my server and took out the 2 lines in .htaccess as suggested, but still no luck.
Is there anything else I should do to ensure the avatar cropping form becomes visible in a custom theme?
The code: In bp-xprofile-signup, It’s not executing xprofile_handle_signup_avatar (line 296) as the meta variables avatar_image_resized and avatar_image_original are blank.
Any help would be appreciated (sorry for all the detail…
)
I need to figure this out as well. I think this thread has some clues.
How does this work in WPMU/BP? Where are the queries anyway? Should we use WPMU/BP specific tags/code instead? Are there code examples of common database requests somewhere?
Any pointers are very much appreciated.
Anyone ever figure out how to integrate BuddyPress and the Prologue theme?
