Oh, this is EXACTLY what I was looking for.
Trent, thank you sooo much!
But where do I put the plugin, and is there a specific name it should be?
I’ve integrated Buddypress and bbPress and they are working well together. I’m wondering how to keep forums visible only to community members.
I’ve already used the plugin that limits viewing of members and groups to those registered, but don’t know how to adjust the code to do the same for the forums.
Thanks!
Instead of talking, which we don\’t seem to be nicola created this while we were arguing on irc: http://buddypress.pastebin.com
I’m using that until whatever happens, happens. I started it with wpmu to wp abstraction functions. Functions that exist only in wpmu but have wp counterparts: get_blog_post($blog_id, $post_id) gets implemented as get_post($post_id). Things like that.
I cant seem to get the buddypress home or member themes to display. Css doesn’t appear to load.
Homepage – http://illdesigned.com/user/
example member page – http://illdesigned.com/user/barrymadden
I’m not sure how to access the home site my homepage seems to be just another member page.
I’m using godaddy economy hosting if that is relevant to this problem, is there an issue with the .htaccess file and PHP?
Please help!
I have correctly installed wordpressMU
I have installed buddypress as instructed
I have relocated the theme folders to
wp-content/themes/buddypress-home
wp-content/member-themes/buddypress-member
I have set all permissions to 755
I have enabled buddypress-home in [Site Admin] [Themes]
I have selected buddypress-home in [Appearance] [Themes]
I have selected buddypress-member in [Site Admin] [BuddyPress]
Okay, next question:
1. Did you follow the instructions in the first post here under the section heading “If you are using your own customized themes”?
I’m a Media Temple fan – in my opinion it has some of the best control panel features available, and it’s GridServer(gs) is fantastic for a shared server. It is also very easy to upgrade from a (gs) to any of their higher hosting plans.
I’ve been using MT for about 4 or 5 years now and I’ve never had an issue. They are a little pricey, but I think you get what you pay for and more.
My $0.02
TMDHosting account, I got an account and planning on using them for BP with refer to they blog.
They provide good support for me on my problems.
Good news on this big task, I’ve managed to get a developer to adapt it for buddypress.

we have analysed your system and we wish to notify you that it will cost you 200usd to get the job done. if you are ok with that please get back to us so we ask questions to come up with the SRS document”

Any questions lay them down now !
Also, we need to know method of payment & license issues with the plugin. ie GPL &
only persons whom chipped in can use it or what?
Roger that fn I wrote was 3 months old. Things have changed in bp. All you need to do is add a filter to change the logo now.
see: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=1969&replies=2#post-10463
Sorry for the late reponse. Your post got ‘spammed’ by akismet because of number of links in the post. The plugins in /mu-plugins don’t need a plugin header like that. Your code will translate better in the forums with backticks before and after.
1. WPMU 2.7.1 Beta2 – BP RC2
2. Yes I have
3. wp-content/plugins/buddypress
4. Yes I have using Woothemes Fresh News but modified for homepage and buddypress theme member pages
Well, only the site admin(s) can activate or deactivate the BuddyPress plugin. So, members should not be able to selectively enable or disable individual components.
Register.php is a BuddyPress file whereas wp-signup.php is a WPMU file. If you use register.php, then wp-signup is automatically not used. In other words, you use one or the other. To choose to use wp-signup.php, you would need to delete register.php from your theme.
Many people have issues customize wp-signup.php. Therefore, I’d recommend using register.php and customize that file instead.
Well, I’ll chime in here. I prefer Slicehost.
It’s not for everyone. In fact, it’s not for most people. It is for us techie guys that want to control absolutely everything. It’s a company built by software developers for software developers.
When you purchase a slice, you have to install (yourself) the server OS, the web server, database servers, mail client, web packages, your custom files, etcetera. You are in total control of the environment. You basically build your own production box from scratch–although you actually are in control of a virtual machine on one of their servers unless you buy all the slices on a give physical box.
Blah, blah, blahbity, blah…
If any of this scares you, then Slicehost is not for you.
I have successfully intalled WPMu and BuddPress using subdomains. My host is a local one here in Central Virginia and they have been very kind and helpful.

Burt-
Well, that was one of my thoughts–and why I’m asking Grandslambert to clarify what he meant by
Using WPMU 2.7 and the latest TRUNK of bbPress
I assume he meant BuddyPress. If so, is he running WPMU 2.7 but with BP 1.0_RC2? Did he install the BP folder in the proper spot? You’ve seen my questions above.
But, I’m tired and JJJ had an intriguing idea as well. So, perhaps I should get some sleep tonight and all the problems of the universe will disappear overnight!
Failed opening required ‘BP_PLUGIN_DIR/…
Not using latest trunk because BP_PLUGIN_DIR is not defined or just installed in some fashion that bp-core.php isn’t running on all blogs which means the latest 2.7.1 wpmu isn’t running and the bp plugins aren’t sitewide.
maybe so?
@JJJ-
Hum, I guess that could help…
Grandslambert,
In your buddypress-user/functions.php, take out ALL of the code besides what you need to make your sidebar(s) for your widgets.
Forgot to mention that little part.
That sounds like an ajax issue to me, not related to 1and1 hosting.
WPMU 2.7 and the latest TRUNK of bbPress
I assume you mean BuddyPress, and not bbPress. If so, then here are a few questions:
- What do you mean by “latest TRUNK”? Did you actually download the BP trunk from trac as a zip or use SVN? Or, did you obtain BuddyPress from the big, orange Download button that can be found on the top of any BP page?
- What version of BuddyPress are you using?
- Where exactly did you place the BuddyPress folder?
- You are using WPMU 2.7 and not WPMU 2.7.1-beta1 or -beta2, correct?
Yeah, I tried exactly that, but then I get all these errors when I try to activate the blog:
Warning: require(BP_PLUGIN_DIR/bp-core/bp-core-signup.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/grandsla/geosee.com/wp-content/themes/buddypress-user/functions.php on line 70
Warning: require(BP_PLUGIN_DIR/bp-core/bp-core-signup.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/grandsla/geosee.com/wp-content/themes/buddypress-user/functions.php on line 70
Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘BP_PLUGIN_DIR/bp-core/bp-core-signup.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/grandsla/geosee.com/wp-content/themes/buddypress-user/functions.php on line 70
So that doesn’t work. Using WPMU 2.7 and the latest TRUNK of bbPress
Jedbarish-
I’m not exactly sure what the issue is here. Perhaps this will help.
Since r1303 and WPMU 2.7.1-beta1, BuddyPress has been considered a single plugin that has multiple components. Once WPMU is upgraded, you install BuddyPress.
Then, you log in as site admin in WPMU backend and go to” Plugins > Installed” and activated BuddyPress. Once it’s activated, a new menu group is created at the bottom of the menu tree called “BuddyPress”.
You click on “BuddyPress > Component Setup” and you should see that all the BP components are enabled by default. It is in this admin screen where you can enable and disable individual components.
Does this answer you question?
