Topic: Hope to see new features

I am currently using Buddypress for my humble website start up. As I spoke to friends for feedback, they would like to see things like:

a. able to highlight a member’s birthday is today..

-may be a sidebar calendar widget that the mouse over a date, it will show the member/s that are having their birthday today or

-may be the Avatar of that member will ‘glow’ or blink? hmm

b. able to select from a series of virtual ‘gifts’ to express like saying hi, can I know you etc… (hopefully we are not creating tonnes of images but hey, it is good to keep the tradition of giving even in the virtual world).

c. Voice clip for members to say hi, self intro etc. and who knows may be we can send a voice clip to another to say hi…hopefully the files won’t consume all the storage.

Dreamcolour, may I know if your translation is into Simplified Chinese or Traditional Chinese? It is best to identify it as in HK/Taiwan, they both use Traditional Chinese.

Sorry if this is a slightly off topic supporty kinda question but just wondering if anyone might have an idea as to why, on my local dev install of WPMU/Buddypress (WAMP on Vista), Avatars are being referenced with the url: http://domain.localhost/C:wampwww/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/avatars/1/dsc_0783-avatar1.jpg.

ie. putting in “C:wampwww/” before the wp-content directory.

Uploading and cropping the image for the avatar appears to work fine it just doesn’t show correctly in any other instance. I’ve looked through my config settings and just can’t figure out what I’m missing. (same install works fine when uploaded to my linux stageing server.)

Appreciate any incite anybody can give me on this

Could someone tell me how to post content to the “News” section of a fresh BuddyPress installation ?

Do I have to create a Post, a Page… a “News” blog ?… I don’t find anything.

It’s a BuddyPress issue – this is hardcoded at the moment, there will be an option to change in Site Admin > BuddyPress soon.

Even if I choose identicon for the default avatar, still all users’ avatars are the wavatar.

Is this is BuddyPress issue or a WPMU issue?

I am using BP trunk 530 and WPMU 2.6.3

Good call, Andy. All the files within the folders were set at chmod 600, too. Any idea why this happened? I’ve never run into this problem before now. Anyway, I’m pretty sure everything is looking and operating as it should. Would you mind taking a quick look? One last thing. I need to know where to send your cup of coffee as my thanks. PayPal?

Check all your plugin files too. For example:

are still returning 404’s. I’d just 644 everything you uploaded.

How is everything looking now? I went through and changed everything to 755, as it was all set to 600. There’s still 1 dead link on an image but I think everything else is as it should be?

Mine are set at 644 and are working ok. I’m runnin wpmu 2.6.2, as I saw no point in introducing another headache until 2.7 is out.

It’s the admin bar that’s trashed. It’s being served out of ../mu-plugins/bp-core/

What ya got for permissions under there. The images and css dirs?

Huh. Ok, yes, that’s exactly where the css file is. However, style.css is set to 600. In fact, all files within /buddypress-home/ are chmod 600 while the two directories within /buddypress-home/ are 755. Again, the theme directory itself is 755. That’s not right, is it? What should all the files be?

Maybe that’s a bug:

In “my blogs” I find only the blogs I created. But not the ones I write in or am Admin of. In the WordPressMU Backend they are all listed as “my blogs” but not in Buddypress. I think, that would be nice…

Andy, those folders are 755. Always have been. I’ve tried re-uploading the theme, too, but to no avail.
