I haven’t seen a plugin that does exactly what you wanted, but I did test this one for about a week: http://buddydev.com/buddypress/introducing-buddypress-user-profile-visibility-manager-give-the-users-control-to-manage-their-account-privacy/

You might be able to install it, have the default setting for viewing members profile set to “logged in users”, then hide it on the front end so members cant change it.

Or, just dig into the bit of code that hides the profile and use that.

This plugin is exactly what i’m looking for, its a real shame @timcarey stopped updating it. are there any other alternatives to create a frontpage or blog page as a homepage for each of my groups?

Here’s what I need:

Client wants to enter member info themselves, then later on have users create WP account. Is this possible, to create profile first, without wp account, and then save?

So at that point, how does already-existing buddypress profile get associated with wp user?

If this isn’t possible, can a temporary username / password be generated?

My expectation was that since notifications section has been added I should be able to locate a notifications.php file in members->single templates, which is unfortunately not present in the bp default theme. Since the file is not present the fallback is plugins.php which is shown in the notifications section.
The above code exactly does what buddypress is already doing so it does not make any difference.

If your theme has the members folder, then Notifications view is missing … is there any template we can refer to .. if not bp-default..

In your child theme, copy/edit buddypress/activity/index.php. Look for

All the options of that select are below it. Though, I’m a novice. There might be some easier way of doing it.

I like this idea. It would make a fab plugin if someone can package it up well.

I’m not sure BP core needs a timezone field by default, but if we can do anything to make filtering/re-calculating the dates easier (e.g. add a filter, or so), don’t hesitate to ask! Create an enhancement request on https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org and I’ll get it into BP 2.0

I think you’re inserting / updating all those xprofile fields on every page load.
Why not just do it once?

You could write a plugin that uses ‘register_activation_hook’ to run bp_add_custom_timezone_list() once.

And then use the filter hook in:
bp_get_message_thread_last_post_date()
to adjust the timestamp without requiring a template change.

And you could use other hooks to adjust other timestamp displays.

That would be a popular and very handy plugin.

Then you will be stuck with a broken site. If you can get the theme developer to remove BuddyPress from the theme and allow it to use BP theme compatibility then your theme will work into the future.

I know this isn’t something you want to hear but it is better in the long run to have theme compatibility. BP 1.9.1 will have a fix for notifications display. This will be the final feature fix. You have the options of removing BuddyPress from your theme or using a new WordPress theme.

Appearance > Themes in the WordPress admin. Activate a different theme.

It has been known for some time that bp-default is getting phased out and new features will not work on it.

Any well coded WordPress theme should work well with BuddyPress.

Current BuddyPress works with any theme. All uou need to do is activate a different theme that is not a bp-default child theme

You need to add a gallery plugin, like https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-media/

This is the same exact problem I was facing a couple days ago. I temporarily fixed it by adding some conditional tags, but I’d rather not muck up index.php for things like this.

Here’s an example of some of the code I added:
