Moderator> now worried I’ve screwed my installation
So do the migration again – before you get more data into the live version.
If you have a large install, the script in that link can time-out depending on the resources available on your live server.

ParticipantOh.
Thanks. And thanks for the link, although reading it I’m now worried I’ve screwed my installation because of breaking the integrity of the serialized string lengths, whatever they are, ahem.

Participantsearching a forum first often throws up useful results:
https://buddypress.org/support/search/?bbp_search=toolbarThis is an issue ticketed and patched, for the moment you can add:
show_admin_bar(true); to your functions.php in your theme.

Moderator>is there something I should have done differently
Nope. That’s what you have to do.
This tool can be useful – also handles serialized data

Keymaster@jamiethecomic The log in box was never a widget. It was part of the theme. Which is why there’s not a log in widget in 1.7 😉

ParticipantUpdate: looking in the database at the wp_bp_activity table in the database I see that the links all point to localhost.
I’m assuming I’m not the first person to ever move a buddypress install, is there something I should have done differently that would have made sure these links were updated?
I have done a global replace of localhost in the database to fix it, but I’d rather not have it come up again.

@mercime
Participant@johnconner Need more information about your installation.
– WP single or multisite? If multisite, is BP in main site or subsite?
– Is this a new installation of did you upgrade from BP 1.6.5? If new, did you follow instructions at https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/ ?
– Did you go through basic troubleshooting like changing to BP Default theme and deactivating all other plugins except BuddyPress and bbPress and checking if issue is resolved?April 18, 2013 at 7:07 am #162017Henry
MemberThanks for helping test. Bug report here:

@mercime
Participant@iconimagery first thing to do is change to WordPress default theme and deactivate all plugins including BuddyPress. I see that you’re using some plugins which have not been updated for latest WP and BP versions, e.g. plugin not updated for the past two years.
When the site’s home page is working again, activate BuddyPress only, change to default theme and check components. I recommend that you check that each plugin is compatible with latest WP and BP before activating it in your installation.

ModeratorI believe you’ve found a bug.
The Base group allows an admin to set default visibility levels.
I was going to suggest you set each field to “logged-in users” and allow users to change their visibility.But those settings are not honored on the register form.
You can submit a bug here.
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/
Log in with the same user / pw you use for these forums.Also – do you also see “This field can be seen by: etc. ” under each Base field on the register page?
And a ‘change’ link?There is a check in register.php, but it apparently fails by returning true for logged out users.
`if ( bp_current_user_can( ‘bp_xprofile_change_field_visibility’ ) ) `
Like this image taken while logged out on a vanilla install of WP 3.5.1, BP 1.7, 2012 theme

ParticipantI went to the 1.7 and that solved most my theme, bug, and other minor issues.
1.7 will also open up your THEME WORLD because it no longer requires BuddyPress specific themes. It can revive and use old as well as new themes that was NOT BP compatible before. Now works:)April 18, 2013 at 12:33 am #162003cybohmoob
ParticipantSolved.

Moderator60% of the plugins listed here https://buddypress.org/extend/plugins are not really BuddyPress plugins. Plugin developers tag it BuddyPress to try and get more downloads.

ParticipantThanks your for your answer. I guess I did not make myself clear enough.
Each user should be able to add as many of these fields as he or she likes. If one had done many jobs in his career one would require a lot of the aforementioned fields. If I’m a young grad student there are probably not gonna be too much. That’s why each user should be able to duplicate the initial field group to have as many as he wants.
I don’t think Buddypress can do this out of the box. I looked at database structure and it seems each user can only have one field assigned to field of a group (1:n relationship).

Participantclaims of working with any theme
@fpats I’ve seen reports where there are themes from themeforest which have failed the easiest route to BP Theme Compatibility enjoyed by almost all WordPress themes. Many possibilities to theme failure. Let’s take a look at what could be causing the failure in your theme and find the best alternative route provided by BP Theme Compat to make it work.Start a new topic here with your theme name and Theme Compat as title. Copy the source code of your theme’s page.php file, post the code in pastebin.com and post the generated pastebin URI in your topic. BP Theme Compat has alternative methods of making it work, here alone or with the theme author’s participation.

@mercime
Participant@otaibia_traveler first, you need to provide more information about your installation. Is this a new install with WP 3.5.1, BP 1.7 and bbPress 2.3? If so, did you install your Group Forum per information found at https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/ ?
April 17, 2013 at 6:26 pm #161977In reply to: Private forum page not found error
@mercime
Participant@xprt007 so basically when you say latest WP 3.5.1, BP 1.7 and now bbPress 2.3, right? If your group is set to Private then the Group Forum created via https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/ should be private as well. So the question is, how did you set up your forum for that group?
