    @plugonline just so that we’re on the same page, do you have a new installation?
    – If so, did you follow the updated instructions at https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/
    – Did you change to the BP default theme just to check if you can create a post and select the group forum?

    You likely haven’t followed the manual steps to adjust the BP templates to match your theme.

    As 1.7 is pretty much ready and in final phases of testing you might be better to wait or upload the beta to test with as 1.7 removes the need for template pack and will work with any theme.

    Thanks so much Mercime for your response.

    I had just updated to BP 1.6.4 and everything was fine. Then I saw a yellow bar at the top of my page saying I needed to do another update. I went through that process and then all of a sudden started getting this error. Here it is again directly copied. The rest of the page is blank and this is all I can see –

    Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_get_theme() in /home/*****/****/****/***/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/admin/bp-core-functions.php on line 242

    I’m not very advanced with this stuff and was just starting to get excited about having BuddyPress on my site. Now I’m so discouraged and worried about even getting access to my backend again.

    Hey all anyone who face this similiar problem, made a core change in buddypress to delete the activity comment as an admin.Which i know its not correct way deal with, but just a quick hack.

    File name : ajax.php
    Path: plugins\buddypress\bp-themes\bp-default\_inc\ajax.php
    Line number: 405
    Description: To give the capability to promoted admin of community, for deleting the activity comment.

    Original code
    ——————
    // Check access
    if ( ! bp_current_user_can( ‘bp_moderate’ ) && $comment->user_id != bp_loggedin_user_id() )
    exit( ‘-1’ );

    Change code
    ——————-

    // Check access
    /* if ( ! bp_current_user_can( ‘bp_moderate’ ) && $comment->user_id != bp_loggedin_user_id() )
    exit( ‘-1’ );
    */

    I just updated the newest version of BuddyPress.

    @plussizebirth

    – Do you mean the stable BP 1.6.4 or BP 1.7 beta 1?
    – Where
    – How did you update BP, via FTP or dashboard plugin update link?
    – Is that the complete error or did you miss some lines before or after that
    – Rename the BuddyPress plugin folder in server to e.g.wp-content/plugins-buddypressproblem in order to access your dashboard

    I hear what your saying but as I indicated above Yoast wants support to go through the WordPress site and nobody there has responded. https://yoast.com/contact/

    Also the more and more I am looking at how Joomla has advanced over the past two years and especially http://www.jomsocial.com/ there does not even seem to even a tad of comparison in features or technology. Even the responsive themes are dynamite in contrast. I must admit Joomla two years ago was week in the theme, seo and plugin and core updates updating from within admin. Clearly these guys have been hard at work. Not the case anymore.

    Joomla plugins where always much higher end in terms of features and functionality. One of the reasons I can over to WordPress was I liked the ease of SEO, themes were better at the time, and also I liked having the ability upgrade things from within the admin as apposed to FTP. Not the case now.

    I am still evaluating but from what I am seeing on the early look its probably going to be complete change over to Joomla with Jomsocial.

    You can either put it in bp-custom.php or the functions.php of your theme.

    The advantage of using bp-custom.php is the functions will be always available(even on multisite) and since this file is loaded before anything else in BuddyPress, you don’t have to worry about the availability of your functions.

    If you put your code in any of these two files, you don’t need to reference/include these files. They are included automatically.

    Hope that helps.

    “But if the project I am building requires social and the only solution is Buddypress and it does not support even basic SEO…”

    You have it reversed. It is Yoast’s plugin that doesn’t support BP. It is the plugin developer’s responsibility to make their code compatible. The best idea is to contact Yoast (Joost). He’s a very hands on guy and would respond to an inquiry like this either via email or on the WP SEO support forum.

    HELP!

    Could this all be an issue with the way I installed my network?………….

    I have noticed further issues with buddypress & bbpress, sign up not performing or functioning, no bbpress mails being sent and the complete inability to edit etc ‘any sitewide forums. There may be more issues I have just not checked.

    I installed network under sub-directories ‘then’ added domain mapping!

    Should I have in fact installed the network sites via sub domains and then added domain mapping?

    ie. BuddyPress does not work on installations where you give WordPress its own directory  ?

    Could this be my issue?

    Hi Brajesh,

    Well, thank you so much! That little piece of ‘magic-code’ accomplishes exactly what I was hoping to do in controlling the default landing-tab for individual groups. A very welcome addition to my bp-custom.php file.

    “Give the world the best you have, and the best will come to you.” Indeed √

    Your piece of code becomes a key control lever in my latest buddypress open-innovation + collaboration project – thanks again!

    @manojhl123 could you be more specific about what topic info? Group Forums or Sitewide Forums? bbPress has topics widget you can add to sidebar. WordPress/BuddyPress/bbPress versions?

    @kizzywizzy – The function get_user_meta() just returns the data; it does not display it. So if that is the only line of code you’ve added, you won’t see any output. You’ll want to assign the output of the function to a variable and echo that, or just echo the output directly.

    Here is the example from the Codex:

    <?php
      $user_id = 9;
      $key = 'last_name';
      $single = true;
      $user_last = get_user_meta( $user_id, $key, $single );
      echo '<p>The '. $key . ' value for user id ' . $user_id . ' is: ' . $user_last . '</p>';
    ?>

    I just double checked, it has the same formatting as the others that I changed. I can’t figure this out.

    Are you sure you uploaded the changes to server? I had to ask. I see no other plugin in source which could affect rendering of /groups/single/home.php

    Sorry about stating the wrong group link.

    So, that is what is weird … I DID apply the same changes to /groups/single/home.php

    I just double checked, it has the same formatting as the others that I changed. I can’t figure this out.

    Yes I agree and why I wanted to give WP a try and it is out of the box a much better platform for SEO. But if the project I am building requires social and the only solution is Buddypress and it does not support even basic SEO then its no fit for this project and clearly can’t find support for simple SEO titles working correct here, yoast or any place for that matter. Then its looking like a no fit for this project.

    ok glad to help fyi there are some aspects that function across the network. For instance there is one unified user list (meaning if you are logged in on one site you are logged in as the same user in all sites as well) and some of the buddypress related widgets can be placed on any sub site also activity for the various sub sites will be listed on the primary sites activity feed (provided the sub site is public and you have the site tracking component enabled).

    ‘Just Work’! well there you go then I would stick with Joomla , however as a long time Standards developer I can tell you I wouldn’t touch Joomla with a barge pole, I publicly gave up helping any devs using the joomla platform due to the most terrible coding errors I  had seen of any application, and the sort of errors that hurt SEO.

    When you have thought this through and realised that WP as a platform is a thousand times better regarded by search engines than say Joomla, we might be able to help, I’ve dealt with this issue in the past but would have to hunt out the code from one of my dev sites and test.
