small update still no final resolution as of yet but they did reiterate that this issue is not normal so they wouldn’t be holding us to the inflated number in terms of billing so that’s definitely good and i do feel somewhat safer in recommending them. i would say that given the fact that i am personally 2 for 2 at this point i would definitely inform a client of the possibility prior to recommending them. i would say they have been very attentive in pretty much every support situation i have had so personally i have faith at this point at least they will turn out to be as i have suspected almost from the beginning the sort of ultimate managed hosting environment at least as it pertains to wordpress.

@voopress If you mean how to integrate WP Video Posts with BuddyPress, then what you’re asking for requires some coding time which is way beyond the scope of this forum support.

Otherwise, I see that the plugin dev had answered most of the support tickets in the plugin’s WP support forum. Do be patient or code it yourself or hire a developer to do so. Could be that the dev’s busy with another project or something else. Being sarcastic in the forums writing “Really, another dead plugin?” is not a good thing at all.

I haven’t experienced the bot / inflated visitor count issue on WP Engine, but I’ll keep an eye out for it. I currently have 2 large sites hosted there. I find WP Engine good for clients who don’t have much in house IT savvy.

If you’re looking to support a smaller shop and get more personalized support, I’ve enjoyed doing business with The Temple Host. I email them at support at thetemplehost dot com with the specs of the client project I’m working on and they always set me up with just the right amount of hosting. Prices don’t ballon each year. Great uptime. So refreshing. Heard about them through a friend. I think word of mouth might be their thing because I don’t understand how they offer such great hosting and support so cheap except for maybe the fact that they don’t have unnecessary bells and whistles on their own website hosting panel. It all works and is easy to navigate, but it’s not cPanel, they don’t offer a knowledge base, beginner tutorials, etc. They just offer solid hosting and support.

@theseoguy At this point I would backup database then deactivate all plugins including BuddyPress, change to Twenty Twelve and check if users with Admin access access the default Admin page. Then activate the plugins (BuddyPress and other BP plugins last) a batch at a time to determine which one/s could be causing the permissions error.

@ssmedia it might be a theme issue. Change to BP Default theme and check if issue is corrected.

@mindyjoy do you have access to the database, eg through your Control Panel and phpMyAdmin?

It might help to look in there to see what is going on.

In the wp_users table there is a ‘user_status’ column. I don’t think WordPress uses it but BuddyPress does and so do these plugins (I believe). Active Users are ‘0’ unactivated are ‘2’.

There is a ‘user_activation_key’ column but I think the relevant keys are found in the wp_usermeta table. Search the ‘meta_key’ column in that table for ‘activation_key’ and the keys will appear in the ‘meta_value’ column.

Hopefully those tables should tally with what is shown by the plugins. Or else you could email your users with the keys…

I have a feeling it may be related to Step #6, when the bbPress repair tool ‘Repair BuddyPress Group Forum relationships’ works only the first time it is run, subsequent attempts will not actually update bp_groups_groupmeta.id with the correct forum ID.

If and ONLY if in your WP database tables `wp_bp_groups.slug` is an exact match with the associated post for the forum in `wp_posts.post_name` then the 2089.2.diff patch will work as long as this forum was one of the group forums originally imported.

Diving into phpMyAdmin and looking at these values and manually updating them I think will be the best solution.

Is there a problem with the BP and the permalink structure having index.php in it?

@magnuscreed Yes there is. You have to remove that index.php from permalink structure with BuddyPress. I’ve never hosted on Windows server, maybe the following info may help.
