    Hello Chouf,

I am not uploading big files / images, only some kbs. I done what you suggested to me. Please see here:

I tried to upload a regular again,

it deleted my old avatar and replaced the new one

but when I pressed the crop button nothing happened and had “not found page” error.

Buddypress is installed on a folder “social” and not to the website root. Is this a problem? Also GD library is on. Media files have been uploaded just fine and they are shown in wp admin control panel. I don’t know what else we can do…

Hummm ! Of course you try to upload normal sizd pictures, not such 5Mo poster….

I don’t know what happens. So let’s try something other.

Upload bp-avatar-suggestions plugin, prepare some test pictures (150×150)ย and upload them throught the plugin admin.
Then go back to a profile and see if have the plugins avatar, if you can change them or add your own avatar….

Thank you for your reply but I made the changes but still nothing. Also, I disable ALL the plugins and there is only buddypress 1.6.2 installed with it’s default theme and nothing else at all. I CAN upload media files within wordpress normally but I cannot upload photos as avatars in buddypress profiles, groups, etc.

I also tried buddypress 1.6.1 but still the same..

I have a similar problem with WP 3.4 and 1.6.2 Avatar uploading is broken. I don’t want to upgrade to WP 3.5 and every time I’m trying to upload a photo for avatar, I have “not found page” in my browser.

Can you please tell me the steps to resolve this issue? Where I have to place a code and what code?
    Thanks.

Don’t know, leider, but have you set something in WP Media, like max thumb size or image size/weight ?
By default WP loads only 1024kb images, so if you try to crop a bigger image, nothing will be loaded.
And if the cropper works on profile’s avatar change form, it should also work on group avatar I guess.

If you have a MS install verify that the folder ” blogs.dir” exist in wp-content/ with the good write/read rights
If on a single install, verify that “uploads” folder exist in wp-content.
Try also to upload a picture directly from Media, to be sure that all is correct between WP and your server. But at least, i don’t know more as you about this problem and what other said about it on trac.

Thanks @chouf1 that solved the problem with the error message!

But now I have a new problem I can upload a picture, but at the step where you can crop the image the image isn’t loaded. It works with personal profile pictures, but not with group avatars.

by cropping the image locally before uploading it. i think you’re gonna have a lot of trouble with the other way given the fact that the code used for all image cropping is almost certainly a shared resource.

How exactly would I pre-crop the image? And I would only want it to be universal for the group avatars, not the entire site.

i think the best thing to do is to pre-crop as opposed to trying to recode the entire thumbnail system unless you want this to be universal behavior most users would expect the resize behavior since thats what almost every site does with avatars.

@chouf1 thanks for heads up on the admin login. I’ve removed the info above.

@bhupendra13 looks like the issue with permalinks/component pages have been fixed in your installation. You need to know that the BP Default child theme you’re using has not been updated for the last two years so there will be issues which would crop up later. I suggest updating the header.php file of the child theme.

Are you using a custom theme? I say this as when the cropper breaks it’s usually due to a scripting clash between theme and / or plugins. Best advice if you can would be to try the default theme without plugins just to see if works then. You could also check in your console if you have any JavaScript or similar errors.

    Paul,

I noticed on https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/roadmap that BP 1.6.3 is due to be released in 3 weeks with only a couple of tickets involved. However, after reading the ticket (which is closed) https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4713 regarding this issue, it seems as though the common understanding is that this is a WP 3.5 Requirement issue. Whereas, I’m running 3.5 and still having the issues.

Don’t know if this helps or not.

Hey Paul, thanks for responding, I appreciate your help brother.

I’m using a modded version of Elegant Themes’ Lucid that I’m in the process of styling for buddypress at this very moment. Though, even when using the default bp theme that comes with buddypress, I have the exact same issues.

If you have any other questions for me, I’ll be happy to answer. I appreciate your help in advance.

Also silently asking for an update on the achievements plugin, I had the same errors that others were mentioning to you on the WP 3.5 upgrade the other week.

    What theme are you using?

@sjroda that happened because of the many changes wrought in WP 3.5
We pretty much go along with what the mothership – WordPress – does. Even if you deactivate BuddyPress, you’d see the same behavior with featured images etc.

Is there anything we can do to get the old way back? Because this new way is really terrible and I doubt anyone will be able to figure that out when they create groups. There’s no way that can be the way it’s supposed to be.

But thank you for your reply, I know it’s not your fault ๐Ÿ™‚

This new cropping “feature” was introduced with the release of WordPress 3.5, and what you need to do, at least what we’ve found that kind of works, is to drag that little black square with the white outline outside of the avatar entirely and then line up your cursor as close to one of the corners of the avatar as you can and then drag it across. It won’t be perfect, and it will degrade the avatar image quality somewhat (no matter what you do), but it will then work as best as can be expected.

Oh how we miss the old way, just mere weeks ago, with how the cropping feature worked. It was quick and perfect, but not so anymore. Perhaps it does work perfectly for some folks, but not for us, and obviously not for you either.

    Hope this tip helps!

Which version of PHP are you using on the server? It looks like others have experienced similar issues with php 5.4: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4191

Having the same issue. I can confirm that as per the trac ticket, enqueue jcrop styles resolves the issue.
