ParticipantThis bit of code:
“Go to wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-avatars.php
Then change bp-core-avatars.php line 389Replace:
if ( !$path = get_option( ‘upload_path’ ) )
$path = WP_CONTENT_DIR . ‘/uploads’;
“DOES NOT APPEAR in my copy of bp-core-avatars.php
nor is there anything remotely similar…
i JUST installed BP yesterday (v1.2.4.1) into an existing WP install (v2.9.2) so everything is up to date
i’m using the bp-themepack on magazine-basic themeany thoughts??
i ALSO did a new install of WP & BP (same versions but installed at the same time) on a different site and the crop tool works perfectly.
both sites are on the same server with the same configurations.May 27, 2010 at 1:20 pm #79862pandragon
Member@psyber yeah I put back in my old edited version of the upload path which fixed the images not uploading but then the crop tools were missing after disabling a bunch of stuff it looks like headspace2 seo plugin was conflicting with the crop tooltip so I disabled it and using all in one seo instead

ParticipantThis one is for the forum mods, have you experienced this issue and found a way to fix it? I wish someone would suggest a fix, or make sure it gets fixed for good with the next update. This feature has to be used by every member of every BP site.

ParticipantI see lots of tickets for this issue, and it seems to be apparent in almost all configurations of WP/WPMU & Buddypress.

ParticipantSame here. No avatars, no avatars cropping tool.

ParticipantSame here. No avatar and no avatar cropping. The “Settings” >> “Miscellaneous” fix broke my wp-gallery. In the new bp-core-avatars.php (BP 1.2.4) the function “if ( !$path = get_option( ‘upload_path’ ) )/$path = WP_CONTENT_DIR . ‘/uploads’;” has been deprecate. I’m lost here.

ParticipantYou’re not alone…I’m on BP 1.2.3 and MU 2.9.2 with a custom child theme and avatar cropping stopped working for me sometime in the last couple of weeks. I assumed it was a plugin conflict, but I’ve disabled them one-by-one and retried with no luck.

ParticipantWhat could be causing this issue, I haven’t been able to find a fix for my website, I’m starting to think my users think I am a joke for an admin because this issue has persists for about 2 weeks now. Has anybody had this issue on a WPMU installation and found a way to fix it?

ParticipantI had a same problem, currently im using WP 2.9.2 with Buddypress 1.2.3, it works for a while but after several hour the crop image cannot preview the uploaded image. And I installed WP as a directory for example http://pheewit.com/ directly to the root of htdocs, I didnt upgrade from previous installation, all WP and BP are fresh install, and im using a default theme of buddypress.

MemberHi Folks,
For those of you who are getting the “Warning: Division by zero in….” message when you change the code at bp-core-avatars.php line 389: The single quotations did not copy/paste correctly. After you paste in the new code, be sure to replace the four single quotations (two on line one, two on line two) with the single quote key on your keyboard. Easy fix!
Have fun.

ParticipantI can report the same path issue with 3.0 running bp 1.2.3 in multisite mode. It is not saving the avatar in the /blog.dir/1/ path as it should. Bp is installed on root level of site.
I also see the following server error:
PHP Catchable fatal error: Object of class WP_Error could not be converted to string in /wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-avatars.php on line 281May 18, 2010 at 4:48 pm #78747In reply to: Avatar Upload Issues

Participant“The image would upload but the cropping window wouldn’t appear, just two copies of the image one the upload size and one a cropped size would show”
This is what I am experiencing, but I don’t know if a plugin is creating the problem.

ParticipantI had a new fresh install of WordPress 2.9.2 and Buddypress Version 1.2.3 all working together fine, then I added a plugin, WP Featured Content Slider Version 1.0 and thats when I had an issue with cropping members avatars and group avatars.
The image would upload but the cropping window wouldn’t appear, just two copies of the image one the upload size and one a cropped size would show.
After deactivating the new plugin, the cropping function worked normally again.

ParticipantEven I am facing this problem. I noticed that the image was actually uploaded but it is using a wrong path in the crop page.
The path for the image shows as:
When it actually should have been (I guess)
http://financetrain.com/wp-content/uploads/avatars/4/bis-449×298.jpgI really don’t know how to resolve this.
I also tried this for my profile on buddypress.org (this website) and the same problem appears.

Membernot sure when and how they will manage to find a solution for everyone. there are tons of post about this issue. have a look at this other one as well:
although my original solution worked with one host (IX webhosting), i tried the exact same procedure on another one (hostgator) and it didn’t work. i the latter it is not url problem it is something else as the imges appear fine, but the crop is failing.

ParticipantI have this problem also. Is it going to be fixed soon? It’s not so important to have it working short-term, but it would be nice.

ParticipantThanks for the tip Shaista,
I followed your instructions and it worked for me. My blog is in a sub-folder. Now avatar upload and crop works ok.
Seems a pain that we have to change the core BP code though!
