Hi. I have a multi-sites setup and I just installed the blog plugin to allow groups to have their own blog. What I’d like is to have the main site blog display a feed of all the activity happening in the individual group blogs.
I’m sure this is possible, I’m just confused on how to actually do it.
Also, is the group navigation bar shown on this site: http://commons.gc.cuny.edu/groups/improving-math-learning/
something that is standard? Or was that custom built? And if custom, what file would need to be edited?Thanks for your help. A few pointers and I will get moving in the right direction.
Hi,
I’m still fairly new to BuddyPress. I’ve been looking around for a while but cannot find specific information.
In would like to remove the activity to be displayed on the member profile and was wondering about how to do that. I could probably remove the code form the template, but I was wondering if there is a more elegant solution like removing an action – alas, I didn’t find the appropriate one to remove.I cannot completely remove the activity component, as I need groups to work. I just want the contributions to be ONLY visible in the groups, not the profiles. If I remove the code (once I found it) from the members template section, will BP still resolve URLs like member/abc/activity and show the content on a generic page?
More generally, does anyone know of good customizing tutorials? Or hook directories? I found this one – http://etivite.com/groups/buddypress/hooks/ – but I’d really like to understand the code and template structure from the beginning.
Thanks for any help!
Topic: Customize group features
Hi,
I saw that on this site groups had customized features. For exemple it not always the same group homepage. Sometime activty stream, sometime other.
What I would like to do is to delet groups activity stream and to have the group’s forums instead in homepage.
However, question 2, is it a good idea ? When I see the activity stream her I suspect that forum activity is not fully integrated in buddypress. I don’t see the “reply” button for example.
Thanks for any informations about this topic !
Hi,
I’m trying to figure out how can we display an activity stream summary on the homepage.
Basicly, we have a customized homepage template and at the bottom of this template we would like to add two recent activity boxes. One should display a selection of the recent posts and another should display the recent activity extracted from the activity stream with portraits.
This should look like this : http://www.flickr.com/photos/thibautdeveraux/4902161455/
I found a widget plugin displaying activity stream : http://buddydev.com/buddypress/buddypress-sitewide-activity-widget-for-buddypress-1-2-and-above/
This would be perfect as I would be able to make some modifications to display the content as needed. Yet i don’t find a way to display a widget in a page template.
I tried to find out the functions in buddypress that would display such information yet I’m still an amateur at coding.
If someone knows an existing solution or where to find pieces of code that would help it would be a great help !
Thanks
I’m running worpdress 3.01 and bp 1.2.5.2 and I have a custom theme. I have the acitivty feed running as the home page and when you click on view of someone who registered it takes you to the correct url but it doesn’t display the css correctly. I’m not a dveloper and I was wondering if its an issue with a template file? Any feedback where to start would be helpful
Thanks,
hi everyone,
i’m struggling a bit with the customisation of the activity stream. it is my understanding that not all activity is actually appearing in the main activity stream.i have looked at the codex and although it seems to have a number of options, i’m not sure how to make a custom function for my theme that allows to add all activities in public groups to come up in the main activity stream. can anyone suggest a possible solution?
the second issue i have is that i would like all activities related to a particular group not to show in the stream. so for example, if person x is posting in the blog i would like to hide this activity from people not in the private group. Note i already have an extra step in the loop which checks for group membership and hides the post/page from non-members, i just want to hide it from the stream as well, but i can’t figure out where to do this.
any guidance/suggestion will be very much appreciated!
Stuff: WP3.0.1 BP1.2..5 HostGator, Addon Domain, Linux CentOS, No Customization or additional Plugins, All fresh install.
Problem: When I create a user blog within the parent blog I am unable to click on Activity, Members, Groups, Forums and Blogs without getting a “Page Not Found”, Also, don’t know if this is related, but header image shows home not the created blog header. http://caminobuddies.com http://caminobuddies.com/hedgehog
I have read through here and tried suggestions but with no avail.
I have a community of poets and so most of their posts are poetry, as you could imagine.
The written poem
goes by lines
of a certain length,
and breaks often.Again, back to the activity stream, it presents posts (poems) in a horrible unreadable fashion – a paragraph of the one single line where everything is smashed together (excerpts).
I wish there was an option in settings to choose between a whole post or an excerpts on the activity page, as it is given in the wordpress reading settings:“For each article in a feed, show
o Full text
o Summary”If anybody can tell me what and where to change in codes to fix it, I would really appreciate.

“I don’t have a problem with paragraph breaks in the activity stream. My blog posts are being shown correctly with the breaks. I’m using a default installation of BP1.2.5.2
Paragraphs can be removed by a filter in WordPress / BuddyPress. Have you made any changes to your functions.php or bp-custom.php to turn off the ‘autop’ filter? i.e. do you have any code like this in those files:
add_action(“init”,”remove_autop_filters_from_activity”);
function remove_autop_filters_from_activity(){
remove_filter( ‘bp_get_activity_content_body’, ‘wpautop’ );
remove_filter( ‘bp_get_activity_content’, ‘wpautop’ );
}Perhaps there is something in the blog template you are using that is doing this?”
if ( bp_has_activities('action=activity_update&per_page=1') ) : bp_the_activity();I’m using the above code in reference to:
http://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-activity-stream-loop/
My goal is to display the most recent status update in a widget. So far I get the 2nd to 1st update if I specify 2 per page. If I display 1 I get nothing. If I display 5 I get 4 (minus the true latest update). If I leave it as default I get 19 (minus the true latest update).
Any ideas to fix this will surely earn you a beer!
