    I have a couple of issues.

    1. we cannot get the sidebar appearing at the side of page content, in buddypress pages. It appears below the content. Have tried the fixes on here, to no avail.
    Suggestions Please.
    2. when we click on activity of any sort from the buddypress menu, it pulls the last wordpress post as the page title.
    So example: say I am looking at: http://sitehelp.com.au/members/blue/activity/
    Then the title tag gets used from last post we made.
    Any suggestions.
    Title tag for above link appears as so: ShineTime: jQuery & CSS3 Gallery With Animated Shine Effects

    The main issue is getting the sidebar sorted.
    Also need to fix CSS because form fields are virtually invisible and the text is kinda skew wiff.

    @mattmct: Or you could use conditional statements in a custom template. It would go something like this:

    Hey all :)

    I’m on the home stretch of getting my WP+BP site officially opened, and thought I’d post it here for critique. The idea of the site is a BP based community of buyers and sellers of crafts and “work-at-home-mom” (WAHM) made items, as well as hosting for WAHM shops using WP 3.0.1 in multiuser mode.

    http://www.clothunderground.com

    The Community: based on Buddypress. Pretty self explanatory.

    The Shops: each shop is a child blog of the main site. I’m using WP Custom CSS to allow users to make cosmetic changes to the Blix theme, and eShop for the eCommerce solution. WordPress seems pretty overwhelming to my users, so I’ve also written a custom library of tutorials (in the footer of the main site pages). I haven’t yet found a plugin that makes the hosting term payment/shop creation process automated, so I’m doing that manually at this time.

    Extras: I know that I haven’t really done much in the way of customizing the default BP theme, but it’s only because I’ve been busy doing functional customizations…

    * The Street: I’m using the main site’s blog function as a classifieds post for members to buy/sell their used items on (a very popular feature for this type of audience). I’ve used Adminimize to limit what the users see on the add post screen, custom fields that allow them to enter URLs to 4 remotely hosted images (Photobucket), disabled file (image) uploading to keep my disk space, and another plugin to keep them from seeing everyone else’s posts in the admin panel post list.

    * Member Feedback System: It’s important on a site like this that buyers and sellers can leave feedback for one another with details on how the transaction went for others to see. I pieced something together (see the ridiculous process here: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/any-plugin-similar-to-ebays-user-feedback-member-rating-feedback) that seems like it will work beautifully! Check out the “feedback” button on my test user’s profile: http://www.clothunderground.com/members/test

    * Customized Groups Page: I just pieced this together the best I could. Nothing else out there was working for my audience, who are more often than not coming from vBulletin based sites. Buddypress’ group/forum system is still uber confusing for them, but this was the best I could do.

    * Sitewide Search: Using the Sitewide Search Pages plugin, I’ve created a child blog that pulls in info on posts published across the CU network. Shoppers are able to search using the form in the header, and browse a list of all CU shop items matching their search. There’s also a wordpress.com style tags page that displays all tags used in item posts sitewide, for a different shopping experience.

    * CU Points: I’m using Cubepoints and CP Buddypress integration to award points to members for activity. Normal members can use theirs to buy anything that anyone (in a CU shop or on The Street) is selling for points, and shop owners can use points to purchase featured shop ad space or up to 20% off of their hosting fees.

    Anyway, please check it out and let me know what you think! Small changes might be happening throughout the day, but it’s pretty much ready for the world right now!

    I have a page like this http://avatarthelastairbenderonline.com/community/ what I want is to display the Moderators Automatically, maybe with a function or something like (show_moderators_of_group(‘a’)) and also maybe show the forum post count.

    I realized it might be easier on the groups page: http://avatarthelastairbenderonline.com/groups but I want the groups page to be more ‘static’ so I created a custom page with links to the group forums.

    @hnla, @nuprn1

    The constant is supposed to set the default tab that is active when you visit a profile.

    In my case, although I’ve made activity the 3rd tab, it is still the default active one when I visit the profile.

    Defining BP_DEFAULT_COMPONENT in wp_config.php is now working for me – provided I use my new slug (‘account’) instead of ‘profile’. Also, as @nuprn1 points out – it won’t work if you cut and paste the code from this thread (because the quotes are mangled).

    Thanks for the help on this guys. Much appreciated.

    Ok… I cut and pasted the code, and that had introduced some control characters that messed everything up.

    However, the routine to change the tab order is not working for me… I went for the following:

    function ka_change_profile_tab_order() {
    global $bp;

    $bp->bp_nav = 10;
    $bp->bp_nav = 20;
    $bp->bp_nav = 30;
    $bp->bp_nav = 50;
    $bp->bp_nav = 60;
    $bp->bp_nav = 70;
    }

    add_action( ‘bp_setup_nav’, ‘ka_change_profile_tab_order’, 999 );

    But, that results in some strange markup being created:

    A new tab is displayed at the start with no content –
    [li id=”-personal-li”]
    [a id=”user-” href][/a]
    [/li]

    and the profile and messages tabs are not in the right order. I get the following rendered:

    nonsense (see above) – messages – profile – activity – groups – following – settings

    I’d just create a custom page template and create a RSS feed from a filtered, BuddyPress activity loop that only outputs blog posts.

    Here’s a guide that will help you create the custom RSS page template:
    http://yoast.com/custom-rss-feeds-wordpress/

    Here’s the activity loop codex page:
    https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-activity-stream-loop/

    *Set the action to “new_blog_post”

    Hello,

    Thnx Roger. I did make some research and found this post:
    https://buddypress.org/community/groups/creating-extending/forum/topic/how-to-add-per_page35-without-messing-up-load-more-link/

    Since I also have this code in my activity-loop.php:
    php if ( bp_has_activities( bp_ajax_querystring( ‘activity’ ) ) ) :

    Thanks to @Boone :
    https://buddypress.org/community/groups/creating-extending/forum/topic/how-to-add-per_page35-without-messing-up-load-more-link/#post-45733

    I did this in my child theme’s function.php file:

    function my_custom_query_filter( $query_string ) {
    $query_string .= ‘&action=activity_update’;

    return $query_string;
    }
    add_filter( ‘bp_dtheme_ajax_querystring’, ‘my_custom_query_filter’ );

    It seems to work! I now just need to get rid of the dropdown filter boxes!

    Hi,

    I advise doing this in your own child theme:

    You’ll have to modify the /activity/index.php file. In there you can change your activity stream loop to just return status updates, and you can also remove the dropdown filter.

    This page gives some guidance on modifying the activity stream loop, including the filter you’ll need just for status updates:
    https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-activity-stream-loop/

    Cheers,

    1. Everything on the admin bar is not working.
    No profiles for any members, it just goes back to the members list, the URL changes but it does not display/
    same thing happens when you click on edit profile

    2. When you login from the homepage. The enter username and password fields do not change to the logout button, but once you click on “activity” or “members” it shows that you are logged in

    This is running on a yahoo small business hosting plan. Installed wordpress from their custom admin page.
    and installed plugins from the WP-admin page

    VERY NEW – so please excuse my ignorance folks

    Wordpress (Single-user) 3.0
    WP installed as a subdirectory (mainsite.com/members)
    Was a fresh install of WP 3.0
    WP functioning properly – but not used to speak of – was intended for installing Buddypress. Things looked good, defaults, etc.
    Buddypress Version 1.2.5.2, fresh install
    There are a number of plugins, but all but BP have been deactivated, problem persists
    Problem occurs on default, a Milo theme (i.e. Spyker, Detox, etc.), whatever I try
    No mods to the core files.
    No custom functions
    bbPress came with the copy of BP I installed
    OODA Domains provides my hosting service (is a Godaddy reseller, from what I understand)
    It is a Linux, Apache, with PHP 5.x

    I installed Buddypress through the WP interface, changed the permalinks. I uploaded themes manually in .zip form through the WP interface.

    Everything seems to work fine on the site except I get this when clicking on the “members” tab:
    “Page Not Found
    The page you were looking for was not found.”

    It’s an error within the buddypress install / not a generic one on my server. When I click on members, this is the syntax in the url: mainwebsite.com/members/members

    I don’t see a “members” folder in my install anywhere when I look at folders via FTP. (Besides, obviously my overall WP install in .com/members)

    When I had Spyker, Bruce, or New Yorker activated, I also got an error on the front page about a file not being found related to members.

    When I click on the other available tabs (activity, groups, forums, about) I don’t get the page not found message. I do get “there were no groups found” but I don’t have any groups or forum posts yet, so that seems quite right. Since I do have some test blog posts up, there is activity and when the activity tab is clicked, you can see those posts.

    I’ve done a lot of reading on the forum and via google searches regarding 404 / links / page not found errors. Many seem to involve WPMU and / or a Windows server – I note something like “IIs” re: Windows is mentioned.

    Since I have a Linux / Apache install, I am hesitant to apply any fixes related to a Windows server issue.

    I note in reading some of the threads here, that @jeffsayre references that Buddypress must “live solely” within the plugins.

    Here’s what I’d like to clarify:
    The default Buddypress theme is in the plugins folder under /bp-themes
    In reading the readme file it SEEMS like I installed additional BP themes as per instructions – it doesn’t specify to install via FTP manually to the bp-themes folder.

    WHERE are themes supposed to be installed? In the wp-content/themes folder or in wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes folder?

    IF the themes have to be installed to the bp-themes folder how do you activate them? There doesn’t seem to be anyway to force WP via the dashboard to look anywhere specific for the themes.

    IF Buddypress is supposed to live solely in the plugins folder, does that mean EVERYTHING needs to be installed in the subfolders in wp-content/plugins/buddypress/ ??

    Hi.
    I’m working on customizing and buddypressifying :p a theme for a site I’m working on, and I need to display the sidebars on the page when the users click “View” on a single activity update in the stream. That takes them to that single activity, and no sidebars are loaded in this case.
    I need a little help with this.

    I’m guessing if I add the sidebars to the entry.php uncontitionally they’ll probably show up everywhere else where entries are shown as well, making sidebars show up twice instead of once in most cases, and in strange places.
    I need to load them only when viewing a single entry directly, by checking if sidebars are loaded, and if not: then load them.

    Wordpress 3.0, Directory root install, Buddypress 1.2.5
    Customised Buddypress social theme

    My problem is on the activity page. When clicking on a new tab, such as ‘my friends’ or ‘my groups’, no content displays until the page is refreshed. How can I work around this?

    Thanks

    @boonebgorges the load more link has shown up at the bottom in the activity feed, the list currently has 13 entries. I’d like to cap it at somewhere between 5 and 10, and then extend the list to another 10 each time the load more-link is hit.
    I have removed the custom php-file temporarily, but while testing this I found that when I clicked the link it wouldn’t do anything, was just sitting there and accepting clicks without loading more.

    The reference in the two posts above yours is saying that the simplest approach is to edit the file entry.php in the /activity folder of the theme; this would be preferably done as a child theme i.e a copy of the files in a new theme directory you would then be looking for lines such as:

    <a href=”<?php bp_activity_comment_link() ?>” class=”acomment-reply” id=”acomment-comment-<?php bp_activity_id() ?>”><?php _e( ‘Reply’, ‘buddypress’ ) ?> (<span><?php bp_activity_comment_count() ?></span>)</a>

    and removing them or placing some form of conditional statement around them – I removed all links for a copy of entry.php which I pulled onto a custom frontpage but allowed the links for the activity stream as a directory view.
    It’s a little long winded but straightforward

    Doesn’t seem like there are any good plugins (or way to print) at all to deal with printing the activity stream, groups, or forums in BuddyPress
    I’m trying to have a custom PRINT CSS that excluded the admin-bar and also the STATUS UPDATE BOX from the activitystream/community page….

    So here is what I have so far…based on the WordPress Codex page… despite my inclusion of the #wp-admin-bar display none it still printing… any help would be appreaciated.

    /* Print */

    @media print {
    body {background:white;
    font-size:10pt;
    margin:0 }
    #sidebar { display:none }
    #header { display:none }
    #wp-admin-bar {display:none}
    #content{ margin-left:0;
    float:none;
    width:auto }
    .demo .red { color:black;
    font-weight:bold }
    #content a { font-weight:bold;
    color:#000066;
    text-decoration:underline }
    #content{ margin-left:0;
    float:none;
    width:auto }
    #footer { display:none }

    h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6 { page-break-after:avoid;
    page-break-inside:avoid }
    h3 { margin-left:10px;
    margin-bottom:0px;
    padding-bottom:0px }
    blockquote, table, pre { page-break-inside:avoid }
    ul, ol, dl { page-break-before:avoid }
    img.centered { display: block;
    margin-left: auto;
    margin-right: auto; }
    img.right { padding: 4px;
    margin: 0 0 2px 7px;
    display: inline; }
    img.left { padding: 4px;
    margin: 0 7px 2px 0;
    display: inline; }
    .right { float: right; }
    .left { float: left }

    If you create a custom post type called groups, or whatever you have chosen for a groups slug and then create a custom post type titled the same as a group name you can use the post editor in the admin to update the home page of any group. Basically you are creating the same URL to this content.

    This will remove the activity from the front page of your groups. Create a file in your themes folder called front.php.

    themes folder/groups/single/front.php

    Then in front.php just add a wordpress loop or any other content you wish. You can use the single.php loop or create a loop for your custom post type.

    Is it possible to add what groups a member belongs to on his activity page or a custom page?
    Or to place what members belong to a group on custom page? I am building a buddypress network centered on a bible study with various different lessons.

    What I basically need to do is include the following items on the same page.

    1) User Info (avatar and name)
    2) Content (featured image, text description, embedded video if available)
    3) Other groups the member belongs to
    4) Other members of the group
    5) Comments on that particuliar group.

    I have a prototype that I built using a custom page template with custom fields before I installed buddypress at
    http://NEWLIFELB.COM/DANIEL

    Is it possible to add custom fields to the creation of a group? Maybe that way I could associate the content with the group and use the group as the “lesson”.

    I just tried to duplicate your problem on my local install, but couldn’t.
    Perhaps something else is interfering and causing the redirect?

    Are you using any BP plugins that handle redirection?
    Anything in your .htaccess file? Any custom code in your theme’s functions.php?

    If that fails, you can always set another WP page as the default front page. Then see if the redirect still occurs.

    i believe that is just adding in the @simon.goodchild automatically to the message – (though not a plugin and unique to this site – but could be done via some custom coding as the current method is just ‘mention this user’)

    Ice-cream sundaes! Oh yes! :) Actually, that’s one direction Drupal has been going (not the ice-cream, sadly), which is the eventual simplification of data storage. The biggest problem now, I think, is that developers map their views to data, and vice-versa. Drupal stores everything and anything as a ‘node’. So a node can contain one word, a site link, a story, a page, images, files, or any combination of all by having nodes within nodes. Its Views module then allows you to say how nodes are displayed; as blocks (widgets), pages, in tables, rows, any kind of custom layout.

    What I’m visualising at present is a way of doing things like BP’s activity stream, where data is any kind of node you like, and you decide whether nodes can overflow or are cut (eg., large images), displayed all at once or shown as a bite (eg., stories/pages and small excerpts with ‘read more…’) etc. You then just decide whether each site page appears as a single page, a list of related nodes kinda bloggish, a list of related nodes a-la activity stream, etc. A couple of clicks could create a stream, a shopping page, or whatever you wish. Users then have BP style filtering links, so they can view everything the view shows, just friend’s contributions, just their groups, etc. Off-site information can be pulled in via links as well, and displayed as the same kind of node (similar data, just a different source). Wrap all that around an individual member with a profile and roles/permissions, and you have the most powerful and adaptable social network there is.

    As I say, you can do that with Drupal, but gawd is it time consuming for a large project. I like the way WordPress is going, and if BuddyPress follows suit in the simple and easy to use stakes, the two combined will be amazing.

    Hi peeps. I’m having a similar problem, but not sure if its exactly the same thing, my activity page is not the first page, nor do I want it. I’m using a custom theme designed in Artisteer, and the activity is not showing up. If I use the default buddypress theme, then the activity shows up.

    Any ideas?

    For a child-theme I’m developing there is area on the site in which only the last 5 activities should show and not the default of 20.

    http://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-activity-stream-loop/

    This page shows there is a per_page option but this isn’t clear on how to write the code.

    As always, thank you.
