Participantdefinitely questionable if you have an alternate forum up already but the main thing you would be getting would be a tighter integration and less trouble you might want to look into it a bit and see if theres an easy way to convert your existing data to bbpress format.

Participantcheck the forum default role in the forum settings
what theme do you use ?do you suggest I post this on the bbP forum?
đ Probably the best place to get bbPress specialist, no ?

Participantconsidering disabling the announcement section of the group altogether â does that sound reasonable ?
If the group members should use the group discussion forum, YES !
FYI we probably all experienced about this point.
User never read the FAQ
User never fill in forms correctly
User never do what they are expected to do.
Never trust users !Don’t hesitate: deactivate !
How ? Read here: https://buddypress.org/support/topic/turn-off-updates-on-activity-page/March 28, 2013 at 4:54 pm #159027In reply to: Topics Are Not Visible to Viewers

ParticipantNo problem.
We are using BP version 1.6.4
BbPress is version 2.2.4
Wordpress is version 3.5.1Forum settings are allowed for groups and standalone. This issue is happening on all topics as far as I can tell.
Yes I am aware they are two separate plugins, do you suggest I post this on the bbP forum?
Hope this helps.

Participant@fede1, as you activated bbPress and allowed group forums, bbPress will use the bp template (out of the box, it’s bp-default). So i wonder witch template you really want to activate ?
Maybe read this: https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/how-to-edit-bbpress-template-files-wordpress-buddypress-bbpress/
and ask also on the bbPress Forum.March 28, 2013 at 4:17 pm #159014In reply to: Collaborative media (photos/videos) gallery

Participantthere are many free and premium plugins. But as you are a WP/BP beginner i would suggest you to make you first an opinion by reading specially this forum ddicated to BP Media (aka bp-album):

ParticipantCreate an account on pastebin.com and create a new paste and provide the URL for the paste here. This forum doesn’t handle php code to well at the moment so you will have to do it on pastebin.

Participant… and that didn’t work either. It was supposed to be a link to pastebin. Clearly I need a support forum to learn how to use the support forum. Apologies.

ParticipantThis is what I have. I went ahead and labeled the categories as parents. Does this look about right? Please advise.

Participant@redheadkelly have you also posted this at plugin author’s and/or theme author’s support forums?

ParticipantSo what page should I associate with the discussion forums in buddypress if not the forums page as described in the documentation as I’ve pasted below? Even with a forum page titled differently and the slugs named differently (ensuring no duplication) the issue is still present.
Note: I did NOT enable group forums.
Here are the instructions I have followed:
https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/
A. Set Up Sitewide Forums onlyInstall and activate bbPress.
Proceed to bbPress.org Codex to get started in creating your Sitewide Forums.
If you kept the default âforumsâ slug in Settings > Forums, you can create a new Page via Pages > Add New. Add Title âForumsâ and insert the forums index shortcode and/or other bbPress shortcode youâll find in the bbPress Codex then publish the new page.
Add new âForumsâ Page in your custom menu via Appearances > Menu.March 27, 2013 at 2:44 pm #158742isisjade
Participantno, you misunderstood. group forums are not enabled – this is not the problem.

Participant@blg002 bbPress forums includes TinyMCE editor. If you’re in Text editor mode, click on img button and insert the image url. If you’re in Visual editor mode, click on the image icon and insert the image url like what I did below

Participant@mercime yeah, I’ve had that checked but it doesn’t seem to work with regular old image urls (.jpg|.png|.gif). For example…
This should show an image:
http://f.cl.ly/items/3N3O3z3v3M1L2M1Q1543/z%202013-02-25%20at%2010.15.14%20AM.pngThis forum might not have that option turned on, but it does the same thing in mine with that option checked. Maybe that’s a bug but I’m not finding good documentation on what exactly is supported.

@mercime
Participant@blg002 sorry, I thought you wanted more than what’s already available in default bbPress (aka Sitewide forums) installation. Go to Settings > Forums > Main Settings – Auto-embed links – check this “Embed media (YouTube, Twitter, Flickr, etc…) directly into topics and replies”

KeymasterIf you use bbPress for site-wide forums (as you say you are), you do not need to enable “Group Forums” inside BuddyPress. So, go back to the BuddyPress settings, disable Group Forums, and then go and delete the (regular Page) called “forums”.
March 26, 2013 at 10:36 pm #158687isisjade
ParticipantI’ve also attempted to use the default forum base: forums and topic base: topics as well as change name of the page to Forums, but I continue to have the same issue. Any ideas/suggestions?

ParticipantIt’s going to be hard for us to resolve your localhost server issues it’s a little outside the remit of this forum.
I would say don’t use IIS unless you have to for some reason but instead download a LAMP package such as Xampp which is far more WP friendly and generally easier to use and configure.

ParticipantHi i changed to twenty eleven theme and deactivated Buddypress. Then reactivated it and i do not see the installation wizard link. Instead I see this:
You’ll need to activate a BuddyPress-compatible theme to take advantage of all of BuddyPress’s features. We’ve bundled a default theme, but you can always install some other compatible themes or update your existing WordPress theme. The following active BuddyPress Components do not have associated WordPress Pages: Activity Streams, Discussion Forums, User Groups, Members.

ParticipantOk I think I may have found a solution. Uninstall all forums installs and delete all groups then follow this old guide here
https://codex.buddypress.org/legacy/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums-v1-5/3/
It’s for an older version but it worked ok for me with bbpress Version 2.2.4 and buddypress Version 1.6.5
Once done with the guide created a new group with the group creation wizard and after it is finished go into admin>forums on the group page and save the settings enabling forums again as apparently there is a bug that sometimes doesn’t enable the forums but doing this fixes it.
I hope it works for you as it has worked for me.
