ParticipantI am having problem in installing the buddypress, hence, tried to uninstall it and try from the beginning.. I have the same problem in uninstalling the buddypress.
I have tried to delete everything totally, including buddypress and related plugins, pages (deleted from trash too), and the generated folders in the child theme’s folder, by FTP.
I dont see any bp-config.php file in my domain. (I checked entire folder)However, when I tried to re-install the BuddyPress, I found that some previous settings, like I unselected the discussion, was still there, and the program just won’t create those related folders “again”. It asked me repair them..
Please someone help to solve this issue, either by deleting the buddypress completely, or by some other method?..
Thanks.

ParticipantHi,
Sorry! Never received this reply in my mailbox and because we’ve been terribly busy over the holidays, didn’t return to this forum.
I’ll check things today and revert, asap.

Participant@inkblot Thank you for posting your keen and thorough observations. The arguments you posted for removing that capability from the Group Moderator are valid. You should post your views and suggestions in the trac ticket. Please do feel free to do so.
Playing d-v-l’s advocate 🙂 I would say that before a Group Admin promotes a member to Group Moderator, the GAdmin either knows the member already and trusts him/her or has observed the performance of the member over a period of time and has deemed that the member is a mature, knowledgeable and a responsible person — someone who will not change the group name and description willy-nilly nor be wishy-washy about maintaining order in the forums.
Thanks again and have a happy new year!

ParticipantI’m sorry, I’m not a coder and I don’t know exactly what this means. Is this a location in the directory? Or something I put into CSS? Thanks for your help.

ParticipantMany many thanks. This works. Absolutely thrilled! My earlier comments about these forums 100% vindicated.

In other words, delete the ‘bb-config-location’ option, and you’re good to go.

ParticipantHello,
I am having the same issue, but when I uninstall the bb-config file from the directory, the plug-in just installs it again. Is there something else I need to do? I also tried deleting BP, then deleting the file from the directory, and re-installing BP and the group forum is still installed.

ParticipantI get this same issue but with blog posts. Every time I edit an old blog post from WordPress it shows up in my activity stream as a new post, not sure if many have experience it since the only way to know is if these posts are getting updated. But in my case, i have to be updating posts all the time and I believe this shouldn’t be happening. Is there a way to stop this?

ParticipantI am also having this issue on the site I am constructing with Buddypress-Buddyboss. Validation emails are not going out as well as changed password emails. I need a fix before 2 weeks into January and hundres of ppl start logging in on 8 sites. We chose buddy press / buddy boss for its groups and forum features but this is a serious problem I can not move forward with out fixing and the launch date is coming soon. Thanks for any assistance.

ParticipantSorry @mercime (and, yes, I’ve already read through the ticket in trac, along with the documentation, etc.), but Administrator elevated Moderators from within a community definitely do not belong in there messing around with Group naming structures and descriptions. They are there to merely moderate the internal content and behavior within the Groups/Forums themselves (like I need to tell you that, being that you are yourself a Moderator here on BuddyPress – and a hell of a good one at that if you don’t mind me saying so!), and that’s it.
With this proposed change, will newly elevated Group Moderators then also be able to delete and/or upload Group avatars once given these new permissions, or even change the Groups privacy settings at will? Not a good “fix” at all if you ask me, no matter what the existing documentation and so forth has to say about it.
I believe that the real error here occurred at some point in time within the direction of the documentation if anywhere, and that is actually what needs to be fixed here, and not with keeping on going down a road where the sign with the arrow pointing one on where to safely go somehow got turned around at some point and is actually now pointing off over the cliff, right?
Hugo ( @hnla) has it absolutely right here with his take on this proposed change within the trac ticket located at https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4737
If you look at our own Group structure within our currently-being-developed site at https://PhysicalActivity.com (which I’d personally registered all the way back in December 1999) you’ll see that we’ve got over 200 meticulously generated Groups, and with thousands more to come, that we definitely do not want members who have been elevated to Moderators digging in and messing around with when it comes to Group names and descriptions, among other things, and I’m guessing a lot of other folks (site Administrators) would feel the exact same way about it as well. Isn’t it enough that Moderators can already pretty much clear out the entire contents of a Group/Forum?
We do not allow our members to create their own Groups, and that is definitely by design. It would certainly create havoc and chaos if we then, eventually, had 100’s of Moderators running wild within our set Group naming structures, descriptions and so forth, especially with thousands upon thousands of Groups to have to keep track of in the future.
When we’re done here, we’re definitely going to be one of the bigger sites making use of the WordPress/Multisite/BuddyPress platform so, needless to say, and like a lot of other folks here too, we’ve got a lot of time, effort and money invested in helping to properly see this whole thing (the ultimate development and direction of BuddyPress) through as well, even if our contributions and/or opinions are just brushed to the side at times.
We’ll definitely be stripping this update out of the code when (if) it drops with, what looks to be from @djpaul, 1.6.3 in the next several days or so here.
If anything, this sounds more like an options type of thing (“Allow Moderators to Change Group Name and Description” – “Do Not Allow Moderators to Change Group Name and Description”), or even plugin territory for the few people who would actually get good use out of something as reckless as this.
All of you guys and gals working on BuddyPress with your time, efforts and skills are absolutely fabulous (and I know, because I’ve been working with and dabbling in BuddyPress since its inception when Andy Peatling was still running the show, and I’ve been working with WordPress since its beginnings as well, even going so far as to register domain names like WordBlog.com, CustomerBlog.com, NoteBlog.com and so forth to use in conjunction with it way back in 2003/2004), so please don’t take this as anything more than me just tossing a little dirt (with a pinch of love) into the gears in the hopes of getting people to stop and take a second, or even third, look into a quick and hastily made change that just shouldn’t be made in the first place.
You know what they say about fixing something that isn’t broken…
Thanks for lending an ear or two to me here. Keep up the good work!
Best regards,
Kyle

Participant@buddies we were supposed to continue the assistance in the WPorg forums because this is not BuddyPress-related at all. Posting in both forums is not only confusing but does not lead to a solution. I’m closing this topic and we’ll continue this at WPorg.

ParticipantI have to confirm exactly that issue with WP 3.5 Multi Site, BP 1.6.2, bbP 2.2.3.
Only group forums are affected, not sitewide forums.
Also, I don’t have the bbPress Settings -> Theme Packages options as shown in https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/ ? Â So I’m using the BuddyPress Default theme.
Only advice I found so far: “Disable BuddyPress’s Forums component” – https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/version-2-2-fatal-error-creating-topic/ …

ParticipantYes, I suppose it’s always possible to commission a suitable developer to upgrade a single plugin.
I must say that since coming on these forums (wp & bp & wpse) I have experienced nothing but hardworking, selfless givers who have slaved over and solved the sometimes absurd problems of takers (for the most part) like me. And in fairness the vast majority the stuff is up-to-date.
Some open source bp plugins like bebop & commonsinabox have been helped along with grants from outside sources. Perhaps if there was some fund that some of us (or hopefully a lot of us) could contribute to in a small way that could be used to fund a project such as this (the updating of one buddypress plugin to be put back (working with current versions of wp & bp) in the wp repository) and then another and another.

Participantbuddypress is not doing anything to stop it.
And pray tell what is BP supposed to do about it? Be nice to get some suggestions!
fwiw spam is a pandemic or appdemic issue it affects nearly all CMS / forum apps out there on the net, the issue is not one that can be effectively dealt with one can only stem the tide and also fwiw it’s up to you the end user of this frely provided software to put you various traps and safeguards in place, and to be massivelly pro-active in the fight, if on the other hand – as some have wailed, that they return to their site after a week and it’s all full of spam well…
So posts – and they are quite frequent – that point the accusatory finger at BP ought to stop doing so, it is NOT BP’s issue it’s yours!
And there are a whole heap of approaches one can take and a million threads on the subject, oh and it’s not just above specific apps or plugins a little knowledge of how to manipulate resources such as .htaccess can help.

ParticipantYou really should not post links like this on a open public forum where any age group has access, at the very least you MUST preface your op with the acronym ‘NSFW’ to warn people not to click on the link, but really considering the nature of the links it’s extremely poor form of you to post them at all here.
You should have described the nature of the issue in as much detail as possible and allowed other to see if they could re-create.

ParticipantSorry, have one more question! Stuck on a similar issue again, the groups_remove_member worked a treat :), but I also need to hook a function for when a person clicks “leave group” on their own accord.
`add_action( ‘groups_leave_group‘, ‘function_here’ );`
I tried ‘groups_leave_group’ but this doesn’t seem to work (unless I’m doing something stupid).
Also I was wondering if you could clear up what the “screen” means in the actions like groups_screen_group_forum
groups_screen_group_members
groups_screen_group_invite
groups_screen_group_leaveReally appreciate your help so far!

ParticipantWP 3.5 BP 1.6.2 Testing this plugin on local installs. first a single site with bp default theme. Flags show up correctly everywhere, backend settings show up —– but clicking on flags does nothing on my set-up.
Hopefully the developer will come back to this or a bp angel will adopt it. Surely a vital component of any social network/forum ???

I have provided some basic instructions at http://pastebin.com/vtdLX2pM

ParticipantI see that you’ve posted at the plugin’s forums at https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/bp-gtm-system and that’s the best place to post the issue.
Know that this is the holiday season so the possibility that the plugin will be updated within the next few days is low. If you’ve made a backup of your database and server files before you upgraded, I suggest reverting back to your old WP version install with those backups if you need GTM working.
