In reply to: Can I search this forum?
WPwebbouw
ParticipantThanks for the reply. I noticed the search field in the top right corner but it seems to give no forum results. (I see no breadcrumbs btw.)
So it is true, a forum with 28,000 topics and no search. I can imagine there must be tons of questions posted over and over again in different threads. I’m rather new to BP and have some questions that may have been posted before. I hope the mods won’t be too hard on me

Tammie Lister
ModeratorThere is a search by the breadcrumbs under the top orange navigation header. It doesn’t function that well though as a general search not directed at forum. It is a known issue being dealt with in a trac ticket.

ParticipantBuddyPress ships with fully customized bbPress 1.
Re BP 1.7: As Paul, a BP core dev, mentioned above it’s the customized bbPress 1 which will be phased out, the Group Forums will be kept but will be moved to the Sitewide forums (bbPress plugin). See bbPress Settings where at the bottom of the panel, there’s a section specifically for BuddyPress Group Forums https://mercime.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/bp16-swforums-03.jpg?w=700

ParticipantI’m having a similar issue. Everything worked fine until I upgraded WordPress and Buddypress day before yesterday to:
WordPress 3.4.2.
Buddypress 1.6.1Now whenever someone posts text the whole page is displayed in the text box for a couple of seconds and then the page makes like it’s going to save, but hangs white. If you stop or refresh the page whilst it’s hanging this is displayed infront of the url http://wyciwyg://62/
I’m using the custom community theme, but have tried using the default them and it still does it. The only person that doesn’t have this problem is me when I’m logged in as admin. All other user levels have this problem though.
I did add bbpress forum after upgrading and have tried deactivating that, but that didn’t fix it. Posting in the forum works fine though.
Any ideas on how to fix this please?

ModeratorPass the ‘order’ parameter as DESC.
if ( bp_has_forum_topic_posts( ‘order=DESC’ ) {
The forum topic posts loop can be found in this template:

ParticipantJust wanted to see if somebody could help me out with the code above – I put it in bp-custom.php and it throws this error:
`Fatal error: Cannot redeclare bp_has_forum_topic_posts() (previously declared in /home4/mysite/public_html/classroom/wp-content/plugins/bp-custom.php:60) in /home4/mysite/public_html/classroom/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-forums/bp-forums-template.php on line 1131`
Thanks much

Participant@aces : Good call. It was a typo

@modemlooper : Gah. That’s the problem when it seems that searching the support forums on buddypress.org consistently generates really poor results and so you’re forced to use Google. Gah. Thanks for the info man.
I am now editing a zillion line .po file. Woohoo! I guess we’re done unless someone has a suggestion for better buddypress forum searches!

ParticipantThank you guys for your recommendations. So, just to make sure I get this right, Buddypress ships with bbPress 1, while the standalone bbPress plugin is at version 2? Then that makes sense not to downgrade.
Also, @mercime what is going to happen with BP 1.7? If I keep the forums inside bbPress 2.x will they then be integrated into the Groups/Forums? Or will they drop the Forums part of the Groups completely?
October 11, 2012 at 7:47 pm #143319Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterIf you disable the Group Forums component in BuddyPress, then go to the bbPress settings screen. Scroll right down to the bottom, and there are options about enabling BuddyPress group forum support. You can do this right now. I don’t know what the process is for mapping an (existing) forum to a particular group; might have to edit some metadata in the database to achieve this.
If you’ve got a dev site, maybe give this a try, and then follow up on bbpress.org for any specific problems you encounter. As @mercime hints at, it’s possible right now but not user friendly or bug-free yet.
There are bugs in this process at the moment if you try to do it on sites that have existing Group Forums data, which is why I asked.
I recommend against migrating from bbPress 2 to 1, because at some point, BP won’t ship with bbPress 1, and then you’ll have to move your content back to 2.
October 11, 2012 at 7:33 pm #143318@mercime
ParticipantBasically, the BuddyPress Group Forums will be migrated/merged into the Sitewide Forums (bbPress plugin) come BP 1.7

ParticipantAnyone any thoughts? @djpaul why would you advice against such a thing? I would think it’s a good choice, no?
October 11, 2012 at 4:01 pm #143303evagorasc
ParticipantNo, we don’t have any. We don’t even have Buddypress on the site yet installed.
October 11, 2012 at 3:56 pm #143302Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterI know you *want* it the other way around (which I am going to advise against in due course) but I need to know if you currently use Group Forums or have existing Group Forum content!
October 11, 2012 at 3:56 pm #143301@mercime
Participant@charlietech I believe I’ve seen you post the same issue in WP forum and here some time ago. The issue is with the Suffusion BP pack plugin, please contact the theme/plugin developer.
October 11, 2012 at 3:55 pm #143300In reply to: Custom Buddybar Width
@mercime
ParticipantDo not create a new topic from dropdown link in adminbar.
Go to https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/
Click on “New Topic” link above list of topics.October 11, 2012 at 3:54 pm #143299evagorasc
ParticipantActually, it’s the other way around. We need to move stuff into Buddypress. We don’t even use Buddypress yet. We are going to install Buddypress from scratch and are thinking of moving the bbPress Forums/Topics/Replies into Buddypress Groups/Forums/Topics/Replies.
We have tested the bbPress/Buddypress integration and we can see that when someone posts inside the bbPress forums, it shows up in the Activity stream of Buddypress. What we are thinking though, is to move completely into Buddypress.
October 11, 2012 at 3:50 pm #143298In reply to: New Install Not Working
@mercime
ParticipantYou need to install/activate the BP template pack plugin to make WP theme compatible with BuddyPress. I don’t know if the JS conflict has been fixed with Canvas already, but here’s what we tried to work out before https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/woo-canvas-child-theme-customization-and-ajax/
EDIT – at end of that page http://labzip.com/shop/canvas-child-theme/ which claims compat with BP. I would suggest before any purchase that you make sure it’s compatible with latest BP and WP pages.October 11, 2012 at 3:48 pm #143296In reply to: Role Difference Between WordPress and BuddyPress
@mercime
Participant@bjwangschowe Yes, for BP, it is Admin and everything else. There’s of course the Group Admin/Mods which are limited to the Group Forums only.

KeymasterIf you haven’t set a Custom Menu, by default, the Forums page only appears in the menu IF you’ve enabled Group Forums. If you haven’t, it won’t appear.
Similarly, register and activate never appear in the menu in the same situation. This is working how it’s intended.
