I’m having this issue as of 8/2012 with the updated BuddyPress Version 1.6.1 and bbPress Version 2.1.2
I can create Groups and Topics but the Topics don’t appear on the site. What’s strange is it shows the count of Topics Forum and is putting the occupied space in the layout but they are not displayed.
Viewing 3 topics – 1 through 3 (of 3 total)

Also, the Search box for the Forums and the Order by: Dropdown menu when used don’t display any results when I know there should be items listed there.
Any Ideas?
Without creating a new thread
I’m having trouble with the Forums
I have Site Wide forums , i have a forum called “Introductions” & a topic called “Introduce Yourself”
It doesn’t show up in thegamingscot.com/forums
@helen-kh No, you do not have to install bbPress plugin if you only want forums for groups. For more information about Group or Sitewide Forums -> https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/
Asynaptic,
We should set up something more formal then, perhaps you can put his contact information on here and anyone who comes across this post in the future can contact him.
In the meantime, I think the best solution is as follows:
1. Use a standard wordpress SEO plugin to modify the individual page SEO meta data.
2. Install group forums.
3. Utilize bbPress plugins and features for SEO.
Then push the community to participate in group forum discussions for important questions and answers. It will allow more flexibility in posts anyways.
Thanks guys for your time and the replies. I have contacted the developer through the suggested forum.
Best,
ERik.
Actually, it’s still an active plugin.
@erikahrend, I recommend you make contact through the specific forum for that plugin: http://shabushabu.eu
In the forums page did you add this short code
`[bbp-forum-index]`
Also, go to permalinks choose another option hit save and then choose your previous permalink setting. This just resets the permalinks.
I had the same problem and I ended up with your question here hoping I get an answer. But after trying it out on my own, I figured it out. So, I hope this is still helpful to you and others:
Once you install BuddyPress, on top of your admin panel, it asks you to run installation wizard. Clicking on it takes you to Buddypress setting. Just go over each tap and click on save and continue until it finishes. Then you can use Buddypress.
I also figured out I need to instal bbpress plugin as well. I am not sure you can do without it or not (hope someone else advise us on that) but It runs good with Buddypress. It also gives you 3 option tabs on the left side-bar in your admin panel which are “Forums”, “Topics”, “Replies”.
I am still experimenting these plugins, so that is all I know so far.
Hope this helped
Go to your profile page and change “Name (required)” to something other than your username.
You could post at

and
http://jobs.wordpress.net/
Please be specific and provide contact info and/or url to contact form
Based on the HTML structure of your theme, you will be only need to create two new files, header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php to make the BP templates compatible with your theme.
If you’ve revised any of the BP template files transferred to your dailypost theme folder in server during the BP Compatibility process, please delete the 6 BP folders transferred to your dailypost theme folder in server – /activity, /blogs, /forums, /members, /groups, /register – then re-run Appearance > BP Compatibility again to make sure that you have clean template files.
A. COPY your theme’s header.php and Save As > header-buddypress.php
Open up header-buddypress.php and at the BOTTOM of the file, below other code contained within, add this:
`<article id="post-” >
Save file.

@bibliata I believe there’s a misunderstanding here. You should not be changing anything within the bp-default theme in /wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/
If you want to revise the bp-default theme, you should create a child theme https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/
BP Columns is already a child theme of bp-default theme. If you want to make any style changes in this child theme, the simplest thing to do there is add your new styles at the bottom of custom.css file and back it up since it will be overwritten when it’s upgraded. Or, you can create a new css file e.g. mystyles.css in BP Columns theme folder to add your new styles to, then open up style.css file and add
`@ import url( mystyles.css );`
under `@ import url( custom.css );`
(remove the space between @ and import when you do this)
If you’re using Firefox, install the Firebug add-on to help you ID what elements need to be changed.
And, as I’ve mentioned in the other post, you can use a WP theme which approximates the layout you need and install the BP Template Pack plugin. For reference, we have a list of “bp-template-packed” WP themes, free and premium @ https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/#template-packed-wordpress-themes
If you are a PHP developer, you can rework the profile fields (in edit.php ) to use the wp_editor() function.
You’ll also need to take a look at the filters that strip tags from profile fields and set appropriately to your needs.
The question was asked recently on this forum — so, have a Google.
As a starting point: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/html-on-profile-page-can-it-be-done/ may be useful.
Hi, you’d need to either get a theme for BuddyPress that had bbPress / forum styling built in or create your own theme for it. It’s quite well documented though:
https://codex.bbpress.org/theme-compatibility/
https://codex.bbpress.org/component/theme/
Guys, this really is outside the scope of this forum as it pertains to a third party plugin. Someone may or may not answer these types of support requests. This support forum is for answering questions like “how do I set up the BuddyPress Pages”.
s2member uses WordPress Roles and Capabilities: https://codex.wordpress.org/Roles_and_Capabilities
Learn about how that works and then you can wrap any code you want hidden by s2member. Specificly user levels/roles. Google it
Hey Guys,
Great plugin (for me its a small system not only a plugin)!
I have the same problem as @charlietech. I want to restrict acces to some of the BuddyPress features and i am using s2member for a sibscription levels.
I will give you a short example”:
Level#0 – Subscriber – can only communicate with Level#0 subscribers. Can not create groups, can not create events etc.
Level#2 – Bronze member – can access profiles to all subscribers of level#0 and Level #1. Can also create events and create albums.
Level#3 – Silver member – can access profiles to all subscribers of level#0 and Level #1 and Level #2. Can also create groups, get access to forums etc.
I am agree with @modemlooper that this question concerns s2member, but it concerns Buddypress as well.
Please, Guys, help all the customers here with an exact answer or advice!
Thank you all for your time and attention!
Kind regards,
Veselin
You need to request support at the s2member support forum. This is not a BuddyPress issue.
Cool. Marking this as resolved.
hey thanks – I am still new to buddy press and dealing with my own theme struggle here but may be I should just switch themes
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/styling-bp-columns-theme-to-look-like-cuny-academic-commons/
Thanks for the help! I think I got it!
@burntheedges https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/ Per codex article above If you only want sitewide forums, then you should “Disable (uncheck) Discussion Forums in the Settings > BuddyPress > Components panel” etc
Now that I look at it, I can access forum topics through the widget, but I still can’t link to the forum directory from my menu…
Marking this as resolved.
As for bbPress not showing up, BP compatibility didn’t change the original page.php which bbPress theme compat uses. Please start a new topic in this forum or in bbPress.org if you need further assistance on this matter.
Thanks so much! Works like a charm!! Except now.. for some reason I can’t get bbpress forums to show up… oh well! Back to work!
