    Which forum – the Group Forums or the Sitewide Forums?

    Ok, thanks for responding.

    But the fact is my forums now display oldest-first AND the excerpts in the Activity stream no longer have any way to link directly to them (instead you have to click on the forum name and scroll through, searching for the post you were interested in).

    This is not how the forums worked last year. Do you have any hints about where I might look for a fix?

    We didn’t change anything to do with forums in 1.5.5.

    You will only need to create two new files, header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php

    If you’ve revised any of the BP template files transferred to your peekaboo theme folder in server during the BP Compatibility process, please delete the 6 BP folders transferred to your envision theme folder in server – activity, blogs, forums, members, groups, register – then re-run Appearance > BP Compatibility again to make sure that you have clean template files.

    A. COPY your theme’s header.php and Save As > header-buddypress.php

    Open up header-buddypress.php and at the BOTTOM of the file, below other code contained within, add this:
    `<div class="middle” id=”ID, PREFIX.’_page_sidebar_position’, true)==1 ) echo ‘sidebar_right’;
    elseif ( get_post_meta($post->ID, PREFIX.’_page_sidebar_position’, true)==2 ) echo ‘sidebar_left’;
    elseif ( get_option(PREFIX.’_sidebar_position’)==1 ) echo ‘sidebar_left’;
    else echo ‘sidebar_right’; ?>”>

    `

    Save file.

    More to the above.
    The website is a subdomain my first:

    Where do I find instructions to set up this type of community site?

    Would have helped to have posted that link in the first place then ;)

    The third step does require some manual modifications did you try that or are you not familiar with basic html /code?

    I’m sure mercime will help shortly – but I do stress again that the help forums are not to be regarded as a service.

    Please bear in mind that this is a support forum to help with BP issues and problems, it is not a coding service. People here are volunteers giving their free time to help.

    You really should make an attempt to begin this process – using the template pack plugin if required – or post to the jobs board with the request and pay someone to help you with this requirement.

    If you make an attempt to get started I’m sure @mercime or someone will guide you along with the process and help where you get stuck.

    Also do check out the codex pages as – apart from the template pack walk throughs – Mercime has done a lot of work converting themes to BP and has an extensive list of themes that have been converted or threads where the process for a given theme exist.

    I am using Google Site Map plugin to generate sitemap.xml, in this file I am not seeing the group or forum topic links. Is this the issue? Do I need to use a different sitemap generation plugin for Buddypress?

    Hi,
    I’m facing a similar problem!
    Whenever i try to create a new forum it showed me an error
    “error when creating a new topic”
    It created for certain groups but couldnt create for others and newly formed groups.. I tried all
    1.Delete groupmeta
    2.Deactivate and reactivate forums and nothing seemed to work!!!
    I queried these lines in the db
    “SELECT *
    FROM wp_bp_groups_groupmeta
    WHERE meta_key = ‘forum_id’
    LIMIT 0 , 30″
    It returned
    “import.php: Missing parameter: import_type
    import.php: Missing parameter: format”

    Well i came into this forum to post and read about bb-config.php
    Yes,the details didnt match with wp-config!
    I changed but it still didnt work even after deactivate and reactivate forums step!!!
    I now deleted bb-config and tried to re-install forums and funny thing here shows that i donot have sufficient permissions to install!!!
    “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.”
    What’s going on with my BP???
    Any ideas anyone please???
    Am not sleeping since two weeks,just going mad at this!!!

    @kristopherlouie You’d need to use the first option, i.e., change 16 template files within the 6 BP folders transferred to your custom theme folder in server during the compatibility process.

    If you’ve previously changed any of the BP template files in your theme folder, replace all of them for a clean slate by deleting the 6 BP folders in server – /activity, /blogs, /forums, /groups, /members, and /registration – then re-run Appearance > BP Compatibility.

    Download the 6 clean BP folders to your computer hard drive.

    A. At the top of each of those 16 template files I linked to above, replace
    `

    `

    with
    `

    <article id="post-” >

    `

    Then, in each of 16 files, you’d like to change the BP Templates’ page title’s header tag from `

    ` or `

    ..

    ` to `

    // Titles Of Respective BP Page Templates //

    ` and move it above `

    `, just watch out when you do this in the /activity/index.php page.

    Save files.

    Which forum content – Group Forums (internal bbPress for BP) or the Sitewide Forums (bbPress plugin)?

    Wow! I finally found the solution after all kind of testing.

    I’ll share my solution in case this helps someone in the same situation :

    1. Open the forums tab in buddypress
    2. Unsinstall group forums
    3. delete the file bb-config.php from your wordpress root directory
    4. uncheck the forums component from buddypress
    5. Save the page settings in the settings tab
    6. Save again the permalinks settings in wordpress
    7. check the forums component in buddypress
    8. click install group forums in buddypress forums tab
    9. Go to admin settings of all the groups I created and click save again the settings

    I’m not sure if all those steps are necessary, but I tried everything to make it work. hahaha

    By the way I’m not using the bbpress plugin.

    I telll you this because I read the codex about forum setup (https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/#bp-group-forums) I’m wondering if I should install it ?

    After I installed and activated buddypress with ALL the components, the group forums where already installed when opened the forums tab.

    @mercime I followed the buddypress wizard and I’m using the “BuddyPress Default 1.5.5”

    Site URL : http://test.hardcorebattlefield.com

    What type of test user do you need ?

    What theme are you using? Have you changed to bp-default theme? If that doesn’t work – Site URL? Do you have throw-away test user username and password?

    == In my dashboard, to update the buddypress plugin ==

    @jloc14 to clarify, when you update BuddyPress plugin to BP 1.5+, you have to go through the installation wizard as seen here https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/setting-up-a-new-installation/buddypress-1-5-installation-wizard/ As you can see, you do not move any page at all nor have to use Filezilla

    == the next step was to move the template files as in each page, register, members, groups, forums, etc. ==

    Which most probably means that you are referring to BuddyPress Template Pack plugin instead. What WordPress theme are you making compatible with BuddyPress? We have “template-packed” some WP themes already, check if your theme is in the list – https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/#template-packed-wordpress-themes

    In my dashboard, to update the buddypress plugin the next step was to move the template files as in each page, register, members, groups, forums, etc. I uploaded the files and moved those folders somewhere and now I don’t see them. In /public_html/wp-content/themes I only see smallbiz, twentyeleven,twentyten, and index.php folders.

    @indieconnect basically it means that there are no Group Forums tables created in your database. Check root of your install for a bb-config.php file. If there is one, double-check if the DB information there is the same as the DB info in your wp-config.php file. If DB is the same go again to BuddyPress > Forums and Install Group Forums.

    We support 2 kinds of bbPress forums – Group Forums (BP internal bbPress) and Sitewide Forums (bbPress plugin) – https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/

    @aprioristic You got it right, you’d need to use the first option, i.e., change 16 template files within the 6 BP folders transferred to your SMPL theme folder in server during the compatibility process.

    `

    `

    with
    `<?php
    get_header();
    global $woo_options;
    ?>

    <article >

    Save files.

    Is it compatible with the latest wordpress 3.3.2 ?

    #133615

    I must have done something wrong with the set up, because I can’t get the forums to work either. When I try to go to the forums page, it says that forums have not been set up yet.
