Participant== When i click on install group forum… nothing happens. ==
Looking at your site, your Forums for Groups is already installed, otherwise there would be no “Forum” tab in your Group’s page like so http://faithteam.org/faithnotes/groups/faith-team/forum/.
Check that there’s a bb-config.php in the root of your WP installation in server (root == where you would also find the wp-config.php file), open up bb-config.php and double-check that the database DB information is the same as that of the database information in your wp-config.php file.
Go to your Group Forums Directory at http://faithteam.org/faithnotes/forums/ and right beside the page title “Forums Directory”, you should see a “New Topic” button and click on it.
== I had to install bbpress in a separate install. is that the problem? Can it be fixed? ==
You could also install the bbPress plugin aka Sitewide Forums in your BuddyPress installation. I suggest however, that we resolve the Group Forums (internal bbPress) issue before implementing Sitewide Forums. Unless you don’t want Forums for Groups anymore? …

ParticipantThank you for starting a new topic.
No, but it’s always good practice to backup your database and server files (including plugins and themes) regularly especially before upgrading site (BP or WP) and also before making major changes to your site.
– WP 3.3.1 and BP 1.5.5, right?
– Check BuddyPress > Components panel, are forums and groups enabled (they are by default)?
– Groups: When you say you cannot access groups, do you mean you cannot create groups?
– Forums: Which forum are you having an issue with, Group Forums or Sitewide Forums? Did you check this out https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/April 3, 2012 at 12:32 am #132299@mercime
ParticipantPlease do not install BuddyPress Links, it’s not compatible with BP 1.5
The version compatible with BP 1.5 is now premium https://buddypress.org/community/groups/buddypress-links/forum/topic/buddypress-1-5-support/April 2, 2012 at 9:17 pm #132288@mercime
Participant== Your active theme does not include bbPress template files. Your forums are using the default styling included with bbPress. ==
Don’t worry about this message, you’re covered already.
== I can not add groups or access forums. … Is anyone there? Hello? ==
– Please start a new topic about the groups issue, this topic was about the theme compatibility process.
– Know also that we are all volunteers here and need time out as well.

ParticipantAs I said, I’ve tried to desactivate all plugin except Buddypress.
Common plugins related to Buddypress on those site: BpDev Stealth Mode for Site admin, BP Group Management, BuddyPress Group Email Subscription, Events Manager, U BuddyPress Forum Attachment.
I only see one thing that may have made a difference: before I’ve reverted the primary field to its original state (Name), I was using a different name (Prénom et Nom). Usually this primary field was related to the WordPress field “Name to be displayed publicly” (or something like that). Can it make the data not beiing save because it can’t find the user’s related ID? (It is only speculation, I have no understanding of how it works) And if so, how can I reverted this primary field data value? Deleting it from the database and recreating it?
ThanksApril 2, 2012 at 3:55 am #132261In reply to: [Resolved] Is this the correct Registration Page?
@mercime
ParticipantThis plugin works in thousands of sites. Re-reading your previous posts, have you checked whether you can add profile fields in BuddyPress > Profiles in base group? Have you contacted your host’s tech support and/or checked your forums re any issues about BuddyPress installations?

MemberI can not add groups or access forums. I get this message at the top of my compatibility plugin:
Your active theme does not include bbPress template files. Your forums are using the default styling included with bbPress.
Something is wrong with this on the inside. Suggestions?

ParticipantFolks it’s very bad forum nettiquette to post in existing threads with ones own issues as things rapidly become confusing trying to respond to multiple questions in that same thread – even if original question ‘appears’ closely relate to ones own.
You need to create a new topics please.
Have you read and followed the advice / instructions in this thread?
Disabled all plugins? All the same instruction applies please follow those before posting so we know if those aspects have been ruled out.
When you have done that and issue continues please create a new thread and mention first that you have disabled all plugins and reverted to default theme to test and issue persists.
Also if you are running any caching plugins please disable those first before any other tests and see if that clears things up.
Closing this thread as it’s run it’s course.

Participant== When i uncheck the boxes the right side of content gets cut short. It needs about 12-15px more. ==
That’s why I suggested in my previous post in D.) to copy styles used in Twenty Ten theme to correct the width of the BP elements. Look specifically for styles targetting #object-nav and #subnav

ParticipantThat is why BP 1.5.5 was released https://buddypress.org/2012/03/buddypress-1-5-5/
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/installing-buddypress/forum/topic/1-5-5-imortant-update/
All users should upgrade BP ASAP.March 31, 2012 at 9:22 pm #132197@mercime
Participant@faithcoach – One issue at a time, please. We’ll address the layout of the BP template files first.
Per http://faithteam.org/faithnotes/members and other BP pages which shows unstyled BP elements ==> Enable the CSS and JS of BuddyPress in dashboard menu Appearance > BP Compatibility, i.e., uncheck the two boxes to disable CSS and JS from BP and Save.
As for the Group Forums, you need to enable it first for each group. see https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/4/#forums-faqs

ParticipantOne way of doing that is by serving different menus depending whether someone is logged in or not such as
`
<?php
// https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wp_get_current_user
$current_user = wp_get_current_user();
if ( 0 == $current_user->ID ) {
wp_nav_menu( array( ‘container’ => false, ‘menu_id’ => ‘nav’, ‘theme_location’ => ‘secondary-menu’, ‘fallback_cb’ => ” ) );
// Not logged in.
} else {
wp_nav_menu( array( ‘container’ => false, ‘menu_id’ => ‘nav’, ‘theme_location’ => ‘primary’, ‘fallback_cb’ => ” ) );
// Logged in.
}
?>
`
or another approach:
`
<?php
if ( is_user_logged_in() ) {
wp_nav_menu( array( ‘container’ => false, ‘menu_id’ => ‘nav’, ‘theme_location’ => ‘primary’, ‘fallback_cb’ => ” ) );
} else {
wp_nav_menu( array( ‘container’ => false, ‘menu_id’ => ‘nav’, ‘theme_location’ => ‘secondary-menu’, ‘fallback_cb’ => ” ) );
}
?>
`
replacing the `wp_nav_menu` bit in the ( child ) theme’s header.php file. It may need adapting depending on theme etc. Remember to make backups before editing!Then use the walled garden or similar techniques to redirect users if they try to reach the page directly…

MemberI have it all with in the theme if I disable the css. I only need about 10px of padding to make it perfect. But, I fan’t get the forum to function. In fact it appears there are not forums, i have four groups set, but I can’t post to any forum. Surely that is a simple setting somewhere. I can’t edit or install new forums. Do I have to delete a folder or something and start the forum install from scratch?

ParticipantI am also http://testbp.org/members/aces/ You should be able to pm me there, although I haven’t tested it with pm before and I’m not sure I can help…..
Did you use an auto installer provided by your host to install wordpress and/or buddypress etc? Autoinstallers have been the cause of many problems in the past.
