KeymasterMaking sure that bb-config.php has the same database connection details as wp-config.php is important (it should copy these things when BP creates the bb-config.php for you, automatically).
Checking that the group forums setup process in the backend is completed is another step (which you’ve already done).
Try going into an existing group > admin > settings, and turning off forums (and saving), and then turning the forums back on (and saving).

ParticipantHey Hugo! Sorry for the late response back.
– I have gone through the set up process several times to ensure forums are activated
– bb-config file is in site root
– Some details were different here, (the data basename, user name & pw) I changed them to match the wp-config fileAfter checking these 3 things off I am again left frustrated. I am sure it is something small and I have been playing with it for a few hours. I can’t seem to get this to work. Id love to rebuild my site and style it again but I need to get this taken care of first
any insight would be appreciated, if you need any information just let me know

Participant@mosaicrob You will change 16 template files within the 6 BP folders transferred to your insignio theme folder in server during the compatibility process.
If you’ve previously changed any of the BP template files in your theme folder, replace all of them for a clean slate by deleting the 6 BP folders in server – /activity, /blogs, /forums, /groups, /members, and /registration – then re-run Appearance > BP Compatibility.
Download the 6 clean BP folders to your computer hard drive.

ParticipantCould just be that the widget plugin is interfering with the function calls. Not sure about that. The scope of forums assistance covers getting HTML structure of theme onto the BP Template files. I used the info you have posted in pastebin. If there’s still some misalignment, let me know by posting url’s of BP pages in your site.

ParticipantI am not saying to jump the gun and make every single Profile field either view-able or not depending on friendship. Just a simple choice to display or not to display your profile to people you are not friends with.
Have you checked out the trunk for BP 1.6 lately? https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/trunk
You’ll be pleasantly surprised. See https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/5789 for example.
all members should have to be logged first before even given the option to view another members profile, maybe a landing page integration built into BuddyPress core that redirects any visitor the the landing page when attempting to view any post or page on the site.
That’s different and already possible with a couple lines of code.

MemberHi,
I’m after basically some links on front page eg: docs, links, news, volunteers
then when a registered user logs in, buddypress kicks in and the registered user wont see any of the above listed links but new ones, such as friends, groups, docs, forums etc.
thanks for the reply though.

MemberPaul Gibbs has answered this for me.
If you have migrated the site to a new server – don’t forget to edit the database details of the new site in – bbconfig.php.
In the same location as wpconfig.php.
This will fix the issue.

MemberOk. Here is what I did and it works. Before I give you the long version. First, in each group click on admin. then click on settings. Make sure the enable forum is checked and save settings. I will check back tomorrow. If this did not work for you then reply and I will give you the long answer as to everything I did to get it working.

MemberIn short yes, this is my first buddypress setup so first thing I did was to test out registration
This was both in the custom-community theme and the default theme. No other plugins, except bbpress which I disabled to test, still no go.I am on a timeline so I have reverted to 1.5.0 and the activation step worked in one go. Unfortunately I am having problems as site-wide forums arent available in that version but that would be another topic. If none of the other posters sites are still available for testing, Id be glad to set up a vanilla wp, and buddypress install and provide you with the login and password…
Something in the code has definitely changed. I guess I could do a diff between 1.5.0 and 1.5.4… If someone finds the answer before I get the chance to do that, even better, let us know.

Memberattempted a fresh separate install of BBPress. Version 2.0.2 does not present a bb-config.php file to direct the integration to. additionally it adds about 3 lines of code to your .htaccess file. I am back at square one. HELP!
March 1, 2012 at 6:19 pm #130714@mercime
ParticipantYes, @ mentions usually get emailed by default. Didn’t know if you disabled that in your settings like I did

a) is Good choiceIf you’ve changed any of the BP template files in your theme folder, replace all of them for a clean slate by deleting the 6 BP folders in server – /activity, /blogs, /forums, /groups, /members, and /registration – then re-run Appearance > BP Compatibility.
A. Copy your theme’s header.php and Save As > header-buddypress.php
Open up header-buddypress.php and at the bottom of the file, below all other code, add this:
[UPDATED – 3/2/12]
`get_queried_object_id();
$title = get_post_field( ‘post_title’, $post_id ); ?>`Save file.

MemberI am facing the same issue except I also get the response that forum has not been set up for this group.
I attempted to access the bbpress install directly, only to land on blank pages.
Anyone know the answer to this one. Perhaps I should just uninstall, delete bb-config, install separately select use existing installation.

ParticipantI was hacked last week and the current setup is from a restored back up that my host had. However some parts like the hackers user account was still there and a few things were strangely still readjusting all week. The forums were working after I cleared things up but going back to the BuddyPress ‘Forums Setup’ in wp-admin and reinstalling the forum config has worked. Thanks.
This resetting has happened to me before about a month ago with bp pages , they were suddenly unavailable and I had to reset them. Is there another cause for this perhaps to do with the new bp component setup? When I was hacked my host said that there was a compromise in a function in the code. BP upgrade was the only major change and now settings have turned off twice.
