ParticipantOK, thanks Scotm!
I guess my problem is not so much getting P2 to work within Buddypress and customizing it, but how to use on the Group Blog homepage.
I may need to test install version 1.2 to see how it uses the post-form. And Posthaste may be a simpler starting point for my problem. Thanks Symm2112!

ParticipantHi,
Really? It would be really cool to have that plugin! Unfortunately I couldn’t find anything. Do you have a link or name for me?
Thanks!

Participant@bpinspire – Hi, no I haven’t tried upgrading that theme to 1.2, so not sure whether the activities loop is now working. We are building a new site at the moment, but that will aggregate its forum content from an RSS feed from ‘external’ forums implemented using SimplePress

ParticipantHi,
thanks for the answers so far!
Setting up a separate bbBress is not really what I want, because it somehow would be overhead and a lot of additional for maintaining and everything.
Restricting Group creation sounds good. However this would require that all users are automatically created as members for the default group which will be used for getting the Forums. Additionally that would require some work on the theme, so that the users don’t get to see any Group related stuff.
I guess all this would be possible and I’ll look into it, but it’s not really what I had hoped…
Just because I don’t want to use Groups, BuddyPress is still well suited for my project. I currently have most of the other components disabled as well (like Blogs, Friends, Activity Stream), but nevertheless there are enough features that I can use for a private community. I especially like the easy administration (from within the WordPress Frontend basically), because I don’t want the users to be in the WordPress admin area.
All of this is superior to a plain bbPress installation, because I get all the WordPress features with it “for free”. So basically this enables me to keep the current website for the project but add some community features to it.
Regards,
Tobias

Participant@Cyndy, nope actually, as we’re refering to creation, not usage…
btw, i bumped an old thread related to that exact situation, i know there was a plugin version for 1.1 that was doing that exact thing…

Participantjust to be sure, someone can update this thread with a final solution??? right now it’s a mess, and i think people would like to know the plugin that lock others than admins to create groups or forums or blogs etc…

Participant@nexia – Wouldn’t that also eliminate anyone NOT in the specific group from being able to use the forum though?
@ashfame – I don’t think there is an option in BP. Searching I found this topic regarding a plugin, but it looks like it’s only partially effective as some people were posting that it was not allowing any group creation.

Participantthe other solution is to block others to create groups, and you as admin create as much groups as needed, with a forum for each, and disable all other features from it.
groups help subscribe to a forum, so people can participate freely and subscribe to receive news from it.

ParticipantDiscussed in this thread. You’ll have to install bbPress separately and integrate it with WordPress.

ParticipantHow about making a single group and then keep everything here. Silly workaround, i know.
There must be some way of using it without the group.
BTW why do you wanna use BuddyPress if you don’t want to use any of its feature. bbPress might be a better choice. Would like to hear from your side.

ParticipantTo be clearer, I’d expect to see a menu item for ‘Blog feeds’ in the Group submenu above the view filter dropdown and activity listing et al, so that we’d have something like
Home * Admin * Forum * Members (234) * Send Invites * Blog Feeds
The Admin item would only appear when logged-in as one, of course.

ParticipantThat additional code does not work for BP 1.2. Even with that code the plugin is not fully functional with BP 1.1.3 as new group members are not automatically added to the group blog until they are promoted to group mod or admin. Plugin author is working on an update for BP 1.2.

else {
return;
}

ParticipantThat reminds me… my guess is that people spend 99% of their time on this site in the forums and as a result (since we rarely view profiles)… we don’t know where we’re all from. I was talking to Andrea_r last week by private message and it was only then that I realized that she’s also an Atlantic Canadian… living in just the next province over!!!!!!!! Ha! Which got me to thinking… location should be part of the forum avatar… right under name.

ParticipantDeleted everything and install 1.2 and getting the same errors. Tried with WP and WPMU. I read the forums everyday and nothing. Can’t believe others have not experienced the same: “Premature end of script headers: plugins.php”
I get this when I activate the plugin. I have to delete BP to get WPMU going again.

Participant@andrew_s1 Interesting, a mailmain-forum plugin. I’d be interested in that definitly. I’ll let you know how it goes with the forum post karma plugin. I might write a simple one myself or hire an experienced BP developer to do a nicer job.
