    @ray, thanks for info; when i integrated wpmu and bbpress, bbpress was set to be in the same dbase as WPMU, and the bbpress was already with over 70k posts (not a new install). So when bp was installed, it’s also in the same db used by wpmu and bbpress. Even if I installed bp with the bbpress forum that came with it; wouldnt it be still using the bb tables that are already there in the existing db?

    Should i install two different bbpress with separate db so I can solve this privacy issues? Its a bit confusing to me now on the whole architecture of bp+bbpress and bp group forums. Pls help.

    Andy,

    I’ve tried using the code loop you’ve given above on my front page, but it doesn’t filter to just show the forum activity.

    It’s showing all the site activity, i.e. the action filter doesn’t seem to be having any effect.

    Any thoughts?

    Seems that only fixed the admin panel problem.

    However it’s throwing up errors on the front end now.

    To be honest I think this plugin is maybe outdated.

    I’ll list here my site’s configuration, and what errors I’m getting in-case anyone fancies making this plugin work as it should.

    OK.. Groups and Blogs are disabled site-wide (Except for the main site blog).

    The setting “Allow new registrations” is set to “Only user account can be created.”

    And “Registration notification” set to “Yes”

    1st problem (As previously mentioned in this thread)… When I go to the admin panel and try to edit the options for the plugin, and hit save, it throws up the errors that I posted here:

    https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/moderate-members?replies=1#post-33514

    I managed to get rid of those errors by doing as mentioned here:

    https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/moderate-members?replies=1#post-33517

    However… it turns out that was not a fix for the plugin, so I reverted the file back to original state.

    OK, I couldn’t edit the emails that would be sent out due to those errors, but I could of worked around that (editing within the file itself)… so I continued to the next step, which was to try and create a new account, to see if the plugin actually done what it’s supposed to.

    After entering all my required fields, and hitting the submit button, I was taken to the upload avatar page. I was also shown the “Check your email address for your activation email” notice. Also, at the top of the page these errors appeared:

    Warning: implode() [function.implode]: Invalid arguments passed in /home2/puezq/public_html/mysite.com/v2/wp-content/plugins/bp-registration-options/bp-registration-options.php on line 639

    Warning: implode() [function.implode]: Invalid arguments passed in /home2/puezq/public_html/mysite.com/v2/wp-content/plugins/bp-registration-options/bp-registration-options.php on line 642

    Since I know only very little php, I had a look to see what those lines were in the plugin php file, but done nothing with them. Here are those lines:

    639 $bp_groups_str = implode(",", $bp_groups);

    642 $bp_blogs_str = implode(",", $bp_blogs);

    So I’m guessing these errors are showing because I have blogs and groups disabled on the site?

    However the plugin php file is full of terms relating to blogs and groups, so I saw no point just removing those lines from the file as other errors would appear from somewhere… surely?

    Anyway, to see what happened next- I then uploaded an avatar, successfully. The errors at the top of the page disappeared when it was uploaded.

    I then clicked on the activation link in the email I received, and logged into the site. I was able to EDIT my profile and browse the site pages normally, but not able to view member profiles, my own public profile, or even view the members search page.

    I then received an email saying there was a new member registration (to my admin email)… and the notice also appears in the admin panel saying there’s a user awaiting moderation.

    And that’s where Im at.

    Come to think of it, and after having read through this post several times now- It seems that the plugin’s actually working… with the exception of those errors that are flagging up in the admin panel (when editing the emails that will be sent out), and at the top of the front end page. Hopefully one of you guys can tell me how to get rid of those errors… or at least the ones on the front end. :-)

    This truly does sound like a fantastic plugin, but with non-existent support at the forum link in the README.txt file, I think it can only carry on living if one of you geniuses are willing to fix the bugs.

    Unless anyone knows of another plugin that will allow new member moderation? (I have searched, but couldnt find anything).

    Hmm seems I was wrong.

    Just edited the emails that get sent out by the plugin, hit save, and my page is filled with errors.

    And the support forum for the plugin is pretty much non-existant by the looks of things: http://webdevstudios.com/support/forum/buddypress-registration-options/

    The first post in this thread was made 7 months ago when bbPress needed to be separately installed.

    As of BP v1.1+, bbPress is now embedded into BuddyPress.

    Privacy options for group forums now exist natively.

    If you’re using an external bbPress install (which it sounds like you are), then you’re correct, privacy will still be an issue. I’m not even sure the BP Groups plugin by Burt Adsit even works with BP 1.1 / external bbPress.

    Any progress on this?

    I want to display latest forum topics on the front page of my site.

    I tried including the forums-loop.php file (used to display the topics on the forum directory page), but it doesn’t work on the home page…

    … the group field is not populated, and the link to the topic does not work.

    Any thoughts?

    Hidding your page with the CSS trick display:none is pure illusion.

    It’s not by changing the wallpaper that you lock your door ! :-)

    The screen is effectively blank, but the datas are all visible by using right-click “view page source”.

    Demo link to “a blank screen”: http://www.netajour.com/buddytest/test.html

    If your datas need privacy, you have to use something better as display:none;

    Ercih, if you set your bp groups to be PRIVATE, the forum in that group is actually using bbpress; and will be visible to users that go directly to bbpress itself — they can read, post new topics, edit, delete their topics — just like a normal bbpress stuffs :) that really defeats the purpose of having a privacy option for BP Groups, i.e. those that is setup with forum.

    I hope I am completely wrong; but this is what I am seeing with my wpmu2.8.6+bp1.1.3+bbpress1.0.2

    I am not sure I understand:

    are you saying, that if you create a “Private Group” within BP, then the associated “Group-Forum” is not private ?

    So when creating a private Group, the Forum-posts are still visible by everybody ?

    af3

    I think this capability is something important that is missing in bp groups. The concept of group and its integration with bbpress are certainly expanding the users interaction within bp groups; yet the privacy of groups discussion is not assured.

    Firstly, is there a quick fix to autohide all bp groups forum from bbpress forum? I have not enabled group forum support because of this issue; and currently only using a separate install of bbpress integrated with wordpress as a place for general forum discussion. Hiding the whole forum is certainly not a totally acceptable solution especially when there are thousands of existing topics that are already there and not associated with any groups.

    Secondly, what is the code to check if the logged user is a member of a group with forum id that can be done from bbpress with deep integration; this could be added in bbpress to limit access to group topics where the logged in user is not a member.

    I also use the email login plugin, but generate a username from the fullname using Javascript (link is for blogname from blog title, but the principle is the same). I think that’s a cleaner solution that avoids a lot of the issues you ran into.

    I haven’t seen much whining on this forum Eric73. Almost all the post on this forum are informative and friendly and I think everyone is doing a pretty good job helping others and contributing as much as they can. If people would stop “complaining” it would mean that BuddyPress would be perfect (not gonna happen) or people would stop caring about the software (which is bad).

    There are always a few people who post a few useless posts or unneeded threads but so far that was handled by the members or by the mods.. So I would rather advise everyone to keep on whining in the way they’re doing it right now :-D

    Hello,

    I’ve a problem I hope I can get help on. I’ve successfully set up forums under the buddypress menu. However, when I set up a group (and enable discussion forums) I’m still unable to post a new topic. I click on the ‘post new’ link and nothing happens. Have I missed something along the line? thanks

    Nothing until the date you mentioned?

    Is this causing my activity to mess up as mentioned here?

    DJ Paul mentioned in Member Widget timezone issue that he has the problem when using bp_core_time_since().

    Prior to changeset 2128 (November 25) this function would return the exact string “[Use GMT Timezone]” if the since time was less than 0. That is, the difference between the current time and the previous time was 0 or even negative!

    In chageset 2128 (November 25) on the trunk, this string has been replaced by “sometime” which will be a little more graceful. Unfortunately that means it’s not going to be fixed until 1.2 is released.

    As for why this is happening, it looks like bp_core_time_since() is getting called like this a lot:

    bp_core_time_since( time() );

    Which results in the code doing a calculation of:

    time() - time()

    which is almost guaranteed to be equal to 0.

    In reply to: BBpress duel install

    If you install a fresh copy of bbPress in a forum on your server called “forums” then it will override the slug in most installations. At that point you would need to theme your bbPress installation to look like the rest of your website.

    #60476

    The first way is for users that may have been registered before BuddyPress was installed. They can still login, post comments, and use the forums, but if they never edited their profile and set their display name(fullname), BuddyPress won’t find them.

    The second is if a user edits their profile from the WordPress side (firstname, lastname, nickname) without changing their BuddyPress display name. At that point the two will be out of sync.

    It’s possible to hook into the save profile action of WordPress and change the BuddyPress display name when the user changes their WordPress nickname, but some sites may want a combo of the firstname/lastname while others may want to use the nickname, and others still may not really even care or use either. From that perspective it makes sense to not have BuddyPress try to interfere too deeply with syncing profile fields that might not have a direct 1 to 1 relationship with each other.

    Thanks for the feedback. I thought I’d seen somewhere that some Ajax had been taken out or simplified, but that’s not what’s going on here then.

    I must have broken something. What parts do I need to put Ajax back together? Where is the Javascript for these delete buttons?

    My delete link looks the same, including the class. I also have the template_notices line. I probably get the popup because Javascript is missing.

    This thread has some clues. I’ll get back to this next week…

    I’ve seen no more than ten people complain about this out of everyone who uses BuddyPress. If this was a widespread issue then there would be endless complaints and tickets.I’ve seen no more than ten people complain about this out of everyone who uses BuddyPress. If this was a widespread issue then there would be endless complaints and tickets.

    You will see more complaints when Buddypress moves out of the current audience of typical wp-users/coders/bloggers to businesses, schools, associations, etc.

    You seem to have a tendency to approach people in a very direct and confronting way.

    I’m not trying to make friends and don’t expect a lot of help anyway. I use the forums partly to keep track of my own development issues and partly to let the developers know where the real pain points are for a regular user, who knows some html/css and a bit of php, but is not a programmer.

    I also represent the people who are not on this forum; who try BP, get frustrated and give up.

    But yes, this is all off-topic. The question is still wp-bp profile syncing!

    #60407
    Andy Peatling
    Keymaster

    @Andy I think the central issue is that WP and BP store member info separately. For the uninitiated, it means that comments on blogs on a BP sire will not show the same profile info as comments on forums, etc. b/c the blog gets it’s info from the Wp table. So if you go into my admin on my site, none of the info is filled out except email and username, altho there’s AIM, website, First Name etc. But none of that is made avail into a BP install. On my site, the blog comments say ” username” commented….. instead of “Display name” commented.

    This will be somewhat addressed in 1.2.
