ParticipantMy latest tests are with r1964.
I’m re-uploading it right now.

KeymasterThere were some fixes committed for subdirectory installs, but I’m not sure if those made it into RC 1.1 or not.
Try running the latest version of BP via svn at https://svn.buddypress.org/trunk/, or here’s a zip: https://trac.buddypress.org/changeset/1964/trunk?old_path=%2F&format=zip

ParticipantI only tried the parent as a TEST after the fact that the member theme didn’t work.
I don’t see why buddypress wouldn’t work with blogs in subdirectories since that would be the most logical install (since it doesn’t require extra server setup) That is how MU works.
It is installed at the webroot.
If buddypress is now exclusively subdomains, I’ll have to look for another solution (or start coding my own friends,groups, and internal messaging hacks *sigh* which wouldn’t be good enough to share.
I did another search this morning of the forum and I see that several others are having the same exact problem, but no one has replied with any fixes. I saw a few threads saying not to have mu installed in a subdirectory, but that is not my case. It is so disappointing.

ParticipantNever use bp-sn-parent as it says.
There’s no hacking needed to use default theme.
Perhaps subdirectory is conflicting with buddypress, as I never done that before. It’s always recommended to use subdomains. Anyway, search the forum again with different keywords and wait for else to post here.

Participantjust as a test I tried using the parent theme instead of default. No, those pages still didn’t work.
Where in the code are those pages set to direct to the right template pages? ( because it isn’t working) perhaps there is a hack to get it working.

ParticipantThank you socialpreneur for the response, but….
Since 10 mounth i go to the backend via these menu item.
As site admin i have to work in the admin.
Since the update to 1.1 i can no more access to “publish” I entend that BP should be manageable from the frontend, but if so it is also normal that i can publish, delete or edit my stuff.
It’s not my first update, i know FTP and SSH and i handle always manually. And so far as i can see, my theme is setted correctly. You can take a look, the address is above.
In bp-core_adminbar.php, at line 151, is a list
echo ‘<li’ . $alt . ‘>’;
echo ‘siteurl . ‘”>’ . $blog->blogname . ‘ (‘ . $role . ‘)‘;
if ( !( ‘Subscriber’ == $role ) ) { // then they have something to display on the flyout menu
echo ‘
- ‘;
- siteurl . ‘/wp-admin/post-new.php”>’ . __(‘New Post’, ‘buddypress’) . ‘
- siteurl . ‘/wp-admin/edit-comments.php”>’ . __(‘Manage Comments’, ‘buddypress’) . ‘
echo ‘<li class=”alt”>siteurl . ‘/wp-admin/”>’ . __(‘Dashboard’, ‘buddypress’) . ‘‘;
echo ‘
‘;
echo ‘<li class=”alt”>siteurl . ‘/wp-admin/edit.php”>’ . __(‘Manage Posts’, ‘buddypress’) . ‘‘;
echo ‘
‘;
if ( ‘Admin’ == $role ) {
echo ‘<li class=”alt”>siteurl . ‘/wp-admin/themes.php”>’ . __(‘Switch Theme’, ‘buddypress’) . ‘‘;
}
echo ‘
‘;
The file is from 1.1 version.
The first line indicates the wp-admin url.
I don’t see this menu when i’m logged as admin. I have only “My blogs” who links to the root site and “Create a blog”
Meanwhile there is another tread here with the same problem i guess

Participantyes, they are both there. “Buddypress themes in theme folder only and the bp default enabled and activated.”

ParticipantI have my CSS working by adding it to custom.css but it is only working for Home and Blog… I thought v1.1 was going to allow me to use only one theme for home/member/forums.
Here is where the location of CSS for thsee two areas:
Home: /wp-content/themes/bp-default-SPSv10/style.css
Member: /wp-content/bp-themes/bp-sn-parent/style.css
What am I doing wrong?
_UPDATE_
What I did wrong was to not delete (or rename) the wp-content/bp-themes/ folder. Now using same custom CSS for both.

ParticipantI need feedback/help from folks trying out new themes.
I’m implementing buddypress into arthemina theme. I’ve so far managed to make all the buddypress pages work fine, except settings which it returns 404.
For other buddypress pages, it was just a matter of copying, for example copy profile folder from bp-sn-parent to arthemina theme to make it work. But there’s no theme for settings, so I now have no idea how I’m going to solve this 404 thing.
Please post your ideas/solution to this post.

ParticipantFinally starting diving into 1.1 on my dev site and encountered a strange issue.
wpmu 2.8.4a, bbPress 1.0
just using plain default theme for now. forums work great. saved all my old posts. all seems ok BUT
on back end no option panel for profile fields. on front end all profile data is gone but name and website. Under My Profile it just has Public (no edit profile or change avatar)
Is this just a butchered install or something else?

KeymasterHey wordpressfan, understand that BuddyPress runs on top of WordPress MU so any spam issues are still, at its core, a WPMU issue.
The WPMU readme.txt has some info on how to counter spammers:
https://trac.mu.wordpress.org/browser/trunk/README.txt (read line 165 and on)
For the Darcy Norman link, use WPMUTutorials’ variation for BuddyPress:
http://wpmututorials.com/how-to/spam-blogs-and-buddypress/
—
Also, for your suggestion on moderating signups, WPMUTutorials also has an article on that:
http://wpmututorials.com/hacks/how-to-moderate-signups/
Read the last comment in that post for info on modifying the article’s instructions for BuddyPress.

You might also want to check out SI Captcha:
https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/si-captcha-for-wpmu-and-buddypress
The beta version has support for BP as well.
Hope that helps in some way!

ParticipantAdding replies (as well as pruning the verbiage) would make the activity stream useful. It is like telling your wife you went to the bank, but omitting the fact someone deposited $1 million in your account.
I suggest something along the lines of :
“You created forum topic Using Custom Userbar.php: 100 replies.”
