    Haven’t encountered that problem myself so wouldn’t really know where to start. The code above does work fine with notifying the person you are trying to be friends with (I’ve just double checked on my project).

    Might even be a conflict with something in your theme or another plugin you are using. You could also try disabling other plugins to check if that is an issue and switching themes to one of the WordPress default themes to see if it works as it should.

    Only other suggestion I can give is to start a new forum thread and maybe someone else has encountered that issue.

    I see what you mean now @tangpage. That page was removed last week as far as I know. @djpaul is undergoing a clean-up which I think will also involve removing the individual plugin forums at some point.

    I guess the awpcp plugin will need to add @-mention support to their comment form. Try asking this same question on their support forum.

    And just to make sure I cover all my bases, here are my answers:

    1. Which version of WordPress are you running?
    4.4.2

    2. Did you install WordPress as a directory or subdomain install?
    Not sure, but I think as a directory.

    3. If a directory install, is it in root or in a subdirectory?
    root I think

    4. Did you upgrade from a previous version of WordPress? If so, from which version?
    No

    5. Was WordPress functioning properly before installing/upgrading BuddyPress (BP)? e.g. permalinks, creating a new post, commenting.
    Yes.

    6. Which version of BP are you running?
    2.5.1

    7. Did you upgraded from a previous version of BP? If so, from which version?
    Yes, the one before it.

    8. Do you have any plugins other than BuddyPress installed and activated? If so, which ones?
    Yes, Akismet, BBpress, Buddypress Edit Activity, Buddypress Forum Editor, Buddypress Group Email Subscription, Buddypress Like, Dynamic Widgets (deactivated), Events Made Easy, Events Made Easy Frontend Submit, Hashbuddy, InfiniteWP CLient, rtMedia, Theme My Login, Wanguard, Wordfence Security, WP SMTP

    I did deactivate all of them except wordpress and the register page worked, I then activated Buddypress and the redirect issue began.

    9. Are you using the standard WordPress theme or customized theme?
    Twemty Twelve

    10. Have you modified the core files in any way?
    I modified Footer.php on WordPress to edit copyright

    11. Do you have any custom functions in bp-custom.php?
    I don’t know

    12. If running bbPress, which version? Or did your BuddyPress install come with a copy of bbPress built-in?
    2.5.8

    13. Please provide a list of any errors in your server’s log files.
    The error log looks blank. Maybe I’m looking at the wrong thing?

    14. Which company provides your hosting?
    Hostgator

    15. Is your server running Windows, or if Linux; Apache, nginx or something else?
    Basic Trouble Shooting:
    I don’t know. Maybe Apache?

    Please do not double post.

    I’m not aware of any security issues in the latest release.

    Have you read this page?
    https://make.wordpress.org/core/handbook/testing/reporting-security-vulnerabilities/#ive-been-hacked-what-do-i-do-now

    If you still feel the hack may have been related to BP, you’ll need to provide specifics.
    And you should do so via a ticket that you can create here with the same user / pw you use for these forums.
    Be very careful about what details you provide on a ticket – they are public.
    Be sure to include contact info.

    I’ve not used the plugin myself so am not familiar with how exactly users are confirmed or unconfirmed. Try opening a topic on the plugin’s support forum asking this same question.

    Did you try explicitly setting the forum id?
    Something like:

    if( bp_group_is_forum_enabled($group) ) {
    	$forum_id = groups_get_groupmeta( bp_get_group_id(), 'forum_id' );
    	echo 'forum id: ' . $forum_id;
    	$bbp_args = array( 'post_parent' => $forum_id );
    	if ( bbp_has_topics( $bbp_args ) ) {
            //etc

    Thanks for that… but I really am new to this open source forum stuff.
    (Plus dealing with upgrading to W10 and Office over past few days, so brain is a bit fried).
    Um… in which CSS file do I put the code?

    Unfortunately there isn’t a page which shows a list of working and broken plugins. However, you can use the WordPress review system and support forums to check what people are currently saying about a particular plugin. If it works, any bugs or issues should all be posted there.

    I’m not aware of any plugin that controls 1-to-1 private messaging for BP.
    You’ll most likely have to write it yourself or hire a developer.

    Namaste JJJ, I received the address of BuddyPress forum in response to the same question on the Codex … and translated by Google (while trying to be aware of nonsense or against the grain, which implies to know a little English). Anyway, I never paid attention to this aspect of security, particularly because of its complexity, my priorities are elsewhere!
    Thanks for responding.

    @djpaul alright i will see if 2.5.1 automatic fixes the problem. If not i will contact you again true this forum topic

    bbpress.org/support would be a better question as they provide the forum software (not BuddyPress) but generally speaking, it depends how you’re going to automate inviting those 600 people. As long as your invite script doesn’t run out of memory, you shouldn’t have any problem. Certainly, there’s no limit inside bbPress for the number of users it can support.

    Update: With reference to usernames on the wordpress.org forum:

    Since [dotorg11555] only a-z and 0-9 are allowed for usernames.

    Ref: https://meta.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/1308#comment:13

    I’m not sure if this change will extend to the WordPress platform and BuddyPress.

    Hello Shane,

    That code didn’t work. However, the following code does work. One problem, when filtering (ex. Type=Online, or Type=Newest) it ignores the code and the gender returns. Any idea why? Thanks.

    PS. I put in Pastebin because I got an error when I put it in forum code.

    @lanvalencia I and others will try to get to help you as soon as possible.

    None of us gets paid for contributing to BuddyPress. It’s the weekend. I have about 6 other forum discussions open where I’m trying to figure out why emails aren’t being sent at *all*, and that’s my current (personal) priority.

    The css tag ID #aw-whats-new-submit may exist, but if your theme use some specific height or width for it which is different from what is used by BP in the js/css file, you didn’t see the button.

    This is a very common theme issue, handled on many topics on this forum.

    @tonyxs1
    logically in the template. The what’s new form is used on activity, profile and group page.

    You’ll certainly find some good information from these one or other search results:

    @djpaul,

    i tried to reproduce and got same result as @gretchenlouise with one of WP theme.

    2016 = correct result (url /forums/search/word_to_search/)
    2015 = wrong result (url /forums/search/word_to_search/) i got the latest post…
    2014 = correct result (url /forums/search/word_to_search/)
    2013 = correct result (url /forums/search/word_to_search/)
    3rd party theme graphene = correct result

    Apparently 2015 doesn’t organize search like the other themes and/or ignore bbPress…

    Have a nice week-end.

    You need to provide a user / pw if you want someone to look at your forums.

    Make sure your issue is not related to your theme; switch momentarily to a WP theme like 2013.

    You can get a profile field value like so:

    $child = xprofile_get_field_data( 'child', $user_id );

    if ( ! empty( $child ) )
        echo $child;

    Getting the $user_id and changing the layout are both questions specific to bbPress and best asked on their forums.

    Hi,

    it’s enabled by default. More about Emoji on WP Codex: https://codex.wordpress.org/Emoji

    IMHO, this need also to be reflected in terms of gamification. Because…

    If you never write about humour and funny things, you don’t develop for mobile devices or don’t use a forum or don’t allow comments (or rarely) and not maintain a site for kids, you could probably disable this feature. Search for Disable Emojis on WP plugins repository.

    The dark side of Emoji’s is that it use an external ressource which is(can be) bandwith consumpting. So if you haven’t an absolute necessity for them, prefer the good old built-in WP smiley.

    Please use the code button when sharing code or error-log entries.

    Thanks for your report.

    Re #3: See https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/6937

    Re #2: Use the new BP filters.
    See: https://buddypress.org/support/topic/bp-2-4-x-to-2-5-wp_mail_from-not-working-with-new-emails-in-bp/#post-250532

    Re #1: You can open an enhancement ticket here..
    Use the same user / pw you use on these forums.
    The new BP Mail API is generating a lot of tickets – per usual for a new API.

    Thanks so much for your step by step guide @mcUK. I’ve followed your instructions, but am stuck on changing the CSS Selector. The theme I’m using is (http://themeforest.net/item/sweet-date-more-than-a-wordpress-dating-theme/full_screen_preview/4994573), I’m trying to put the notifications in the top menu (Welcome/Features/Forums… on the demo, but I’ve added Buddypress menu items there). Do you know which selector I would need to use for that? Many thanks.

    Hi John

    If you’re referring to the BuddyPress Activity Plus plugin, try asking this same question on their support forum.
