I believe you can simply delete /bp-forums/bbpress/ and you should be good to go.

However, I understand that this is annoying for WP Engine as you might have to do this manually each time BuddyPress has an update.

An alternative is to pull the development version of the codebase (SVN or Git) from buddypress.trac.buddypress.org. Then, you can checkout the current maintenance branch (currently 2.4, but will be 2.5).

The development version does not include the older version of bbPress; we only include the older version when bundling it for a release.

    Hopefully that helps somewhat.

Your best bet is to try the bbPress.org support forums — the shortcode you’re using is bbPress, not BuddyPress.

Ahh I see, ‘Allow activity stream commenting on blog and forum posts’ needs to be unchecked

    I don’t get it, but… solved 🙂

    Thank you danbp!

    Hello,

The ‘Allow activity stream commenting on blog and forum posts’ is checked!

The funny thing is, if I select ‘comments’ on the activity stream filter, I can see the comment update… if I select ‘anything’ I don’t see it! (Well I do, but I need to scroll all the way down to the blog post, as you can see here).

    Que?! 🙂

    Hi,

normally you have a filter upon the activity stream so you can sort it by different activities. By default, a stream use “anything”.

Settings > BuddyPress > Settings -> Activity Settings and make sure that “Allow activity stream commenting on blog and forum posts” is checked. And also “Allow search engines”.

While testing, i recommand that you use one of Twenty’s theme first. Just in case of… 😉

    Use your theme CSS file.

Ask on bbPress forum and read the documentation:

Step-by-Step Guide to Creating a Custom bbPress Theme

You may find similar explanation on BuddyPress codex.

    Other solution: https://wordpress.org/plugins/bbp-style-pack/

Unfortunately, VC is a third party plugin and this forum is for support of BuddyPress

unfortunately this forum is for support with BuddyPress itself, when there are added plugins it can make it impossible for someone to test.

Did you read through translation docs? https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/customizing/buddypress-in-your-language/

    Read through this https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/

You need to decide on a forum site or using BuddyPress and using group forums. Running both can be confusing for users

    This is the BuddyPress forum.

    The bbPress forum is here.

Re avatars: Your css has .bbp-author-avatar set to display:none.

I don’t know why emoticons are not working.

You can remove the PM option by deselecting it on the Settings > BuddyPress > Components screen in wp-admin.

There have been other topics re restricting PMs based on membership.
It’s not very difficult to do – but is difficult to answer.
The issue is that the solution has to be specific to

    • the membership plugin being used: s2member, pmpro, etc
    • the range and allowed number of PMs
    • feedback method re UX
    • additional misc parameters

Therefore, especially for novices, the answer falls beyond the normal scope of these forums.
You might get lucky, but I suggest posting on the Jobs Board.

Its ok, thing I have worked it out. I Think have put the wrong Forum menu item in the menu.

If I am correct, in the Menu, should I put the forum (page) and not the forum (custom link) ?

Ok, thanks for that. So how can someone view the forums if they haven’t already posted anything ?

bp_core_validate_email_address uses the WP function email_exists.
So perhaps that WP function should check the signups table.

You can open a ticket here and a decision will be made as to whether it should actually be a WP ticket:
    https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/newticket
Use the same suer / pw you use for these forums.

That is how it should be.
The Forums link on Profiles should show you what you have done on Forums.
It does not show you the actual forums.
Create some topics, replies, favs, etc via http://gamedealsdaily.com/forums/
Then check your Profile > Forums.

On the pages section, I have a page called forums with the link: http://gamedealsdaily.com/forums/

If I go to that, I see the forums

On the Members profile, the forums link is :http://gamedealsdaily.com/members/admin/forums/ and if you click it, it goes to the members page with the following :
    Topics Started
    Replies Created
    Favourites
    Subscriptions
    Forum Topics Started
You have not created any topics.

But No Forums. I know that the links are probably the problem, but not sure what to change.

To be clear, and provide further details to demonstrate that this hasn’t been answered previously, I’m looking to have 2 nav items in every group: Forum, Members.
In that order, with the default page being Forum.
I have achieved the default page being Forum with this:

    add_filter( 'bp_groups_default_extension', 'custom_bp_groups_default_extension' );
    function custom_bp_groups_default_extension() { return 'forum'; }

But, again, when Activity Stream is disabled, Members becomes Home.
So right now my nav is: Home, Forum
I need a way to tell Home to revert to Members and go below Forum in the nav.

Thanks for the reply! You couldn’t find any links because my post never gets posted. I have not repeatedly tried to post it – I waited 2 days between each post and there is only 1 link in my post and that is to my web site. I really need help with my issue and both my hosting company and wordpress.org’s support forum have told me to post on buddypress.

The only way I’ve found to display private forums on the main forum listing page is to use the Private Groups plugin. From what I can tell, it does not use the BuddyPress groups feature — you have to create new groups within the plugin settings.

The good news is that the plugin does exactly what I was looking for: It allows you to have private forums for a subset of members, and the forum is not visible on the main forums page to anyone who is not part of that subset.

Note that the plugin requires you to use different “Recent Activity” widgets, in order to hide private activity from other users. Those widgets are included with the plugin.

If there is a way to do this natively with BuddyPress groups, I’d like to hear it.

Many peoples are waiting for this, but their is no exact piece of code to restrict group creation. And their is no latest posts in the Internet regarding restriction. Buddypress has been evolved as a one of best open source platform with best supporting community even though this problem has not been solved, sad part is from past few years many peoples queried about this you can check in this forum till date no solution.
I’m requesting the community to provide support to restrict group creation ( either direct or based on role) since old codes/plugins are not working any more.
    Thanks

Unless they can point you to a reference about the ‘known error’, their comment is not very useful.

Trying to change user roles and user forum roles via .../wp-admin/users.php is not related to BP.
Can you change roles for one or two users?

1400 users is not that many.

    Thanks @shanebp.
They mean on your end this is a known error or issue that is happening, I guess.
They did turn on wp_debug, and I have the error log, but I can’t really make heads or tails of it.
I am trying to bulk edit the users in the dashboard, in the user panel. What I’m trying to do is change forum roles (some don’t have any forum roles associated with them), and also trying to add them to a forum group there.
    Thanks again!
