ParticipantI would like to install buddypress onto my existing wordpress install (regular wordpress not wordpress mu).
At this time, BuddyPress only works with WPMU 2.7.1. You cannot use it with single-version WordPress.
How would I upgrade this to a wordpress mu/buddypress install?
https://mu.wordpress.org/forums/topic.php?id=11126
will this integrate with my current wordpress theme
No. You will either need to use the standard BuddyPress themes that come with the package, or update your custom themes as detailed here: https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-buddypress/upgrading-from-rc-1/

ParticipantOn an unrelated note, I have another issue which I have been trying to post to the forum, but everytime I try and post it (in the same way as I have just posted this topic) it does not display here on the forum??
Can you only have one topic active at one time?

ParticipantJeff–
Not sure we’re talking apples to apples, but I’ve created this thread to ask how I can make my theme consistent site-wide.
https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2538
I know there must be an answer to this, because the BuddyPress site we’re on is doing what I want to do!

To move xoops users to wpmu, you should visit wpmu forum.

ParticipantThere’s a new post regarding skeleton theme, https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2522. He states, “So in looking through the skeleton theme I noticed something strange.
I am wondering why the ‘Activity’, ‘Profile’, ‘Wire’, and ‘Friends’ items do not work from the optionsbar?”
response, “It looks like the options bar is showing up on the directory pages when it shouldn’t – most likely because I forgot to add a hide function. All the other pages are working fine. I will update this.”
For the pages i’m referring to i have the same problem, the options bar that shows up on these pages (not user bars links to same sections) links go to “The page you were looking for was not found.”
I’m thinking the solution for that would be the same for me?

Mark
ParticipantThanks for the response.
I bought the themes from StudioPress and see they have made a Grunge Buddypress theme for another client. I will try and contract them to do the same for myself.
Unfortunately since we will be using a purchased theme, I would not be able to make it open to everyone, however I will ask StudioPress to consider adding it to their product list for sale.
I will also look at the coding myself as I am generally good with be able to follow systems that are well documented. If this is the case I will look into creating themes using free/gpl wordpress themes. What my clients have been after is more of a wordpress modular feel than buddypress.
I am also looking into integrating phpMotion and will report back to this forum as my clients all want locally hosted/owned video/images site wide and on user profiles.

Mark

ParticipantHere’s definition.
http://wpmu.org/the-wordpress-mu-guide/site-options/standard-site-options/
wpmu doesn’t have the option you are looking for. But you can use 2nd option with a plugin to moderate new blogs. To find out more, visit wpmu forums and wpmudev.
This has nothing to do with BuddyPress.

KeymasterAaargh. This is nothing to do with buddyPress. The installation instructions say to check you have a fully working install of WPMU before installing buddypress. Obviously you didn’t.
Therefore a more appropiate place is the WPMU forum or website for this question. However: you need wildcard domains like you’ve said. Your webserver also needs to be configured to support such a thing. In Apache httpd, this is called a “virtualhost.”. Talk to your host.

Participantkunal17, did you contact the support of both hostgator and godaddy? If you go to wpmu forum you’ll find detailed answers and information as buddypress is just a plugin running on wpmu.
Perhaps you need to visit wpmu and read some documents there, to understand more about what wpmu does and buddypress does. That should give you clear definitions and directions when you face troubles in the future.

ParticipantHey, I changed the Allow new registrations options to another one and then switched back and now it seems to be working. I just tried to register a new user and the activation link came back fine. Thanks for your help guys. If the problems creeps up again Ill let you know.
I do have another question about the allow new registrations options over here https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2525
P.S. I did check the error log for the past couple of days for any reference to this error and didnt see anything. Infact, there don’t seem to be any errors with relation to the domain I am hosting BP on at all

ParticipantI agree with JJJ – If removing those lines fixes it, leave it as is. But if you\’re still unhappy with the way something is working, you could try my integration tutorial.
I\’m assuming there\’s nothing important in your bbPress database yet since you said you wiped it all out and tried again. If this assumption is correct, start with a clean install of bbPress by deleting the forums/bb-config.php file. Also, drop the tables in your database that start with bb_
You can find the tutorial at http://theeasybutton.com/blog/2009/04/30/integrating-buddypress-10-wpmu-and-bbpress/
It was written for BuddyPress 1.0 but works exactly the same for RC2.
Good luck and if you fix it, please remember to let us know so we\’re not still trying to find a better answer for you.

ParticipantWillPCG-
This is the same issue as the one being discussed in another thread. To get the best support, the discussion should be kept to that single thread. Otherwise, new people joining in will not see what has previously been discussed and tried.
So as not to spread this identical support issue over multiple threads, I’m closing this thread. Please visit the original thread here: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2511

That fix worked perfectly on my site as well. Is there a similar fix for forum posts not showing up on the site wide activity widget?

KeymasterThese forums are using bbPress, yes.
As far as the integration plugins that you will need, I’d recommend checking out the sticky topic and getting comfortable with everything before you start.
Trent and I are still working on the Forum Integration 2.0 documentation, so for now that sticky is your best bet.

KeymasterHeh. Of course, I hope you at least TRIED to google that query, Enlightenmental1. I’d hate to think you hadn’t.
I googled, and found this thread https://mu.wordpress.org/forums/topic.php?id=5827 which was started about a year ago by a suspicious chap under the name of “apeatling.” Rings a bell but I can’t quite place it…

The link’s dead but if you ask him nicely he might still have the code elsewhere.
May 4, 2009 at 3:42 pm #44351In reply to: I want to translate BuddyPress to Arabic :)
Jeff Sayre
ParticipantDo I need to translate WPMU first ?
Look in the link that DJPaul provided. There is a WordPress translation of Arabic already. I’m not sure what additional work you’d have to do for WPMU. Most likely translation of some of the admin pages. But, I’m not a localization expert.
What will be different because Arabic is RTL language ?
As long as the themes that Arabic users are using properly reference some type of right to left CSS file, then this should not be an issue. Look at rtl.css to see how that works.
Also, look at this relevant BuddyPress thread: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=245

Robert S
ParticipantHi guys,
I have followed the instructions as per the following bbpress forum post:
https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/wpmu-27-038-bbpress-10-alpha-6-integration-for-the-record (excellent instructions by the way)
…and I appear to have integration (database + login both ways) – so far all seems OK.
I’m running WPMU 2.7.1, BP1.0, and bbPress 1.0a6 and have integrated WPMU and bbPress. At this stage I’m not too worried about getting BP integrated as well – will wait until the Group/Forum features within BP improve.
My gut feel is that both these plugins:
*bbPress Integration
*WPMU Enable bbPress Capabilities (0.1)
…are no longer required (if one follows the instructions as above.
If anyone “stumbles” across anything different I would appreciate some feedback.

ParticipantKunal17, first delete your bb-config in the forums directory. Then, go to your database and (assuming you left things as default) you should drop (delete) all of the tables that start with bb_
This will allow you to do a fresh install of your forums.
If you still can’t get it to install correctly, feel free to contact me and I’ll see if I can give you a hand.

ParticipantI might have done something stupid…
On step 3 of the bbpress installation process where it asks for site name, I put in my main domain name (instead of the installation path to bbpress – which I now assume I should have put?).
I had errors during installation and so I deleted the whole bbpress directory and uploaded bbpress again to a new directory (domain.com/forums). Now when I run the installation and finish step 1, I say move to step 2 and it takes me to my main domain instead of step 2. I have no idea how to fix this. I guess the installation instructions from the first install still exist.
Please advise as to how I can fix this! Thanks.
