For update and better clarification, if you already have groups, then you won’t see an issue unless you delete a group, or try to add new groups and then realize that the enable option is not there. All of the code is there but the check box does not show up on the group settings form. If you use a database client like PHPMyadmin, you will see that the enable_forum column is there. If you enable it, then the forum tab will appear. So, I hope this info will help bring resolution to this issue.

This could mean several things. You have an existing WP site and want to get those users into WPMU.

Or you have an existing WPMU site, but when you go the ‘members’ list pages on BuddyPress, most of them don’t appear.

I can’t help you with the first one as I don’t know and that question is more appropiate to the WPMU forums (not BuddyPress’). If it’s the second, the users won’t show up until they’ve logged in and done something. There was a script or so around the forums to get this done automatically, but I don’t know where I saw it. Hopefully someone will post.

So the problem is in your custom theme then? It’s a tricky nuggest but read through https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2298.

That is not a BuddyPress problem. I suggest you search WordPress’ forums.

This thing is not buddypress, so it should be posted on wpmu forum. n/w, I see everything properly on 2.7.1 and rc2.

I’m putting the finishing touches to the revisions to v1.2 of the Skeleton Component for plugin developers today. Since I first updated it, there are additional changes to make it sync up to RC2.

When it is finished, I’ll post in this thread.

Andy, do you mind commenting on this?

I want to know what direction to take in converting my component. If there will be an “official” version, I might wait.

Lastly, will our components be “Future Proof” like the themes from here forward?

    https://buddypress.org/blog/news/why-your-buddypress-themes-are-future-proof/

    Thanks for your input!

Someone needs to confirm this, but I believe that the conversion from RC1 to RC2 eliminate some activity stream tables.

Parts of this thread my answer your question, Jfcarter.

    Hi All,

I just updated mekudos.com with MU 2.7.1, RC-2 and BB-Press Alpha6 and all was a success. However, I do not see an option for the home and member templates for forums to link bbpress and RC-2?

I believe this issue has been resolved in the RC2 version of BuddyPress. If you have not yet upgraded, I’d recommend doing so. Read this thread: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2298

For those of you tuning into us via SVN:

    BuddyPress RC2 = BuddyPress Revision 1406

Anything +1406 can be referred to as “trunk” again.

Check these topics for some important reading on upgrading your existing BuddyPress installs.

there is a plugin to disable the dashboard but then obviously they cant edit the blog?

i think what your looking for is just plain wordpress (not mu / multi user) and buddypress which is upcoming, theres a thread about it in the forum if your interested, it would definately be worth a read and then base your decision on that

Of course I know how to backup database and restore it. However, the normal database backup does not work for me. I get following error:

mysqldump: mysqldump: Couldn’t execute ‘show table status like ‘wp\_user\_999\_friends\_activity\_cached”: Out of memory (Needed 2093952 bytes) (5)

mysqldump: mysqldump: Couldn’t execute ‘show table status like ‘wp\_user\_999\_friends\_activity\_cached”: Out of memory (Needed 2093952 bytes) (5)

I tried restoring an older version of the backup of live site on my test site setup using XAMPP on my desktop. I get “Fatal Error”

    Fatal Error

If your blog does not display, please contact the owner of this site.

If you are the owner of this site please check that MySQL is running properly and all tables are error free.

    Could Not Find Blog!

Searched for localhost.localdomain/rkn/ in wordpressmu::wp_blogs table. Is that right?

    What do I do now?

Read the bug report page. Some of the guidelines there may help you figure out what went wrong.

If you’re still stuck with this message, then check that your database contains the following tables:

    wp_blogs

    wp_users

    wp_usermeta

    wp_site

    wp_sitemeta

    wp_sitecategories

If you suspect a problem please report it to the support forums but you must include the information asked for in the WPMU bug reporting guidelines!

Limiting the creation of blogs to certain user roles such as Site Admin

This thread describes how to modify the both the admin bar and the member theme navigation functions using bp-custom.php. No core mods needed. It can give you an idea of how to modify any bp function that responds to an action.

@Tutsie, upgrade to RC2/trunk. That feature was added some time ago.

@Hyrxx, you’d have to move the logo into the actual <ul><li> structure of the menu itself. Right now it sits outside of that. It’s not really part of the menu as of now. I just finished doing a tutorial on altering the admin bar as part of this thread: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2283

Believe it or not I’m getting kinda burned out on the admin bar. I know it’s one of the most visible aspects of bp. It is also one of the easiest ways to allow your users to navigate to important areas of your site. I just don’t have time to tackle that right now. I have a project I’m working on that needs attention.

Do you have any other plugins besides BuddyPress installed? Do you receive any error messages?

To better help you, we need a few more details.

    1. Are there any errors in the log files? If so, what are they?
    2. Are you using any plugins other than BuddyPress? If so, have you tried deactivating them and seeing what happens?
    3. Did you make any changes to the .htaccess file? If so, what were they?
    4. Did you install the .htaccess file in WPMU’s root?

Here are some other things to do before replying:

I’ve looked ever so briefly at your site’s CSS files. It seems that you have customized the standard BuddyPress themes somewhat rather than creating a custom theme from scratch. So, here are some initial debugging steps and questions:

    1. Which version of BuddyPress are you using? The one from the large, orange “Download” button?
    2. Have you tried switching back to the default BuddyPress themes and see what happens?
    3. Have you disabled the WP-Forums plugin in WPMU backend and see if the problem goes away?

Finally, having the proper tools can help you figure out many CSS issues. I highly recommend that you use Firefox with the Firebug Add-on.

Ben, I took a look at something similar before. There were multiple requests for limiting the number of blogs a user could create. I came up with the only solution I could find at the time: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=1328

bp relies on wpmu’s settings for blog creation. wpmu controls this in the site admin back end. Site Admin > Options > Allow New Registrations. Whatever solution to your request is has to take into that setting in wpmu. It’s basicly an on/off kinda thing. You either can or can’t. It’s not based on user role.

Disabling the registration/signup ‘gimme a blog’ option and you have people still able to create blogs after logging in. Let’s say we set that to ‘Only logged in users can create new blogs.’. It’s a start.

So, now only logged in users can create blogs. The create a blog on registration is gone. Next issue is the need to let certain roles see and use the ‘create a blog’ option.

This exists in the member theme Blogs > Create a Blog and in the admin bar under My Blogs > Create a Blog and My Account > Blogs > Create a Blog.

(Saving this while I dig thru some code…)
