In reply to: Problems with umlauts
Burt Adsit
ParticipantI’ve been looking at this problem and getting frustrated. I realized finally that the filter function actually does two things:
$content = htmlentities( $content, ENT_COMPAT, "UTF-8" );
$content = str_replace( '&', '/amp/', $content );From http://loadaveragezero.com/app/drx/Data_Formats/Character_Encoding
[…] But there are a number of other issues to deal with. In particular, because UTF-8 is a multibyte encoding, meaning one character can be represented by more one or more bytes. This causes trouble for PHP, because the language parses and processes strings based on bytes, not characters, and makes mincemeat multibyte strings – for example, by splitting characters ‘in half’, bodging up regular expressions, and rendering email unreadable.
Karl can you just comment out the following lines please:
Line 46
$content = str_replace( '&', '/amp/', $content )in bp-forums-filters.phpand line 52
$post_text = str_replace( '/amp/', '&', $post_text );in buddypress-enable.php on the bbpress side.I’d like to narrow this down to the htmlentities fn.
I’m gonna help solve this or just move to a planet where only ASCII is spoken.

MemberHello,
i still have not found the problem with the umlauts.
the strange thing is, that in the forum title (BuddyPress frontend) the umlauts are there, but in the text the are deletet.
So if the title is like öäüÖÄÜß, after sending it, it looks like öäüÖÄÜß
If i write the same umlauts in the textbox, then after sending it the text is empty.
Is the filter for the title and the textbox not the same in BuddyPress?
If i write it in the bbPress Frontend, everything is ok.
Best,
Karl

ParticipantThat sounds ominous. I googled the phrase and found several forums (with WPMU) where people reported the same problem and gave some fixes. No one seemed to think it was that big of a deal.
As for me, my WPMU works fine until I add the buddypress plugin; then it stops working.
Anyone have any solutions?

MemberHy,
same problem here, on wp mu 2.7,
plus after having ‘runned’ that file twice with same alert.wp-admin/admin.php?page=bp-xprofile/admin-mods/bp-xprofile-account-tab.php(just to see what happen)homepage (on ‘root’+ BuddyPress Home Theme) did appear without most of the previously selected widgets (only the center/middle coloum did ‘survive’).
funnily, so to speak, on the widgets board them appear deactivated,
the “self-deactivated” widgets (after the double run of ‘ bp-xprofile-account-tab.php ‘ or incidentally at the same time but for other unknown reasons)
are:- Welcome
- Members
- Who’s Online
- Site Wide Activity
- Recent Blog Posts
- Groups
so all dinamic related plugs
Unafected widgets,in the Homepage, as this matter did possibily trigger homepage only (apparently)
- pages
- Recent post
- Calendar
- Search
- Archives
I’ve reactivated the ‘rebels’ widgets on their original position, content and setting
were not affected by this incidentI will hide (//) that string, even if I’m quite sure that function was working up to this morning, when I had All in One SEO , Google XML Sitemaps , and Post to SimpleMachines Forum SMF plugin already working
I did a back up before to install:Add to Any: Share/Save/Bookmark Button- AJAX Comment Preview -OpenID – and SEO Smart Links,so I’m going to deactivate theese latests plug
and see what happen backing up of 4-5 hors.please read this post as feedback.
cheers 🙂January 31, 2009 at 8:19 am #37021In reply to: Forum Integration: HELPING HINTS

ParticipantMy apologies. Never saw that error when it wasn’t on php 4 before, as that seems to come out of nothing but php 4 installs. Would you mind trying something for me? Could you edit /mu-plugins/bp-forum/bp-forum-filters.php and change line 53 from:
$content = html_entity_decode( $content, ENT_COMPAT, "UTF-8" );to:
$content = utf8_decode($content);Just want to see if that fixes it. Make sure you backup your original file before the change, so you can change it back if you need to. That might “patch” it until Andy can look at this.

Participant@cikguazleen this is a problem with earlier versions of php 4. Can you get your host to get you on php 5?
Here is an explanation about error.

ParticipantOk…figured it out for dsader’s plugin. Just needs priority added to it. Check out this post in WPMU forums, but basically add priority to the template_redirects like:
add_action('template_redirect', 'ds_users_authenticator', 1);add_action('template_redirect', 'ds_members_authenticator', 1);add_action('template_redirect', 'ds_admins_authenticator', 1);Just adding the “1” for priority makes it go before Andy’s changes. All those lines are near the top of the plugin.

Geordee
ParticipantI had problems before. My earlier post was on one such problem https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=1019, which I worked around by fixing the db.
My concern is that there could be many more such db issues (which I did not expect when I rolled out Buddypress), and these need to be fixed. I should not wait until the users come back and tell me they’ve got problems.
January 30, 2009 at 6:56 pm #36971In reply to: need a ‘button’ in the bar
Trent Adams
ParticipantEach function has to have a different name or else php will break plugin into errors. Every function on your install has to have a unique name, so I was just saying each little function has has the button created needs a unique names, yes. You can put as many as you want in there as long as they have different function names.
‘add_forum_link’
‘add_about_link’
‘add_download_link’
‘add_buddypresslove_link’
‘add_donate_link’
etc

MemberGreat Trent!
Many many Thak you, very last request to do not stress you further: where it’s possible to retrive those ‘declarations’,meaning others too ?
- ‘add_forum_link’
- ‘add_about_link’
- ‘add_download_link’
Thanks again for your assistance,
I think many users would find This info helpful, for sure
January 30, 2009 at 6:36 pm #36966In reply to: need a ‘button’ in the bar
Trent Adams
ParticipantNo more difficult, but functions need different names for example, this brings 3 buttons in:
<?php
function add_forum_link() {
echo '<li><a href="http://yourdomain.com/your-smf-url.php">Forums</a></li>';
}
function add_about_link() {
echo '<li><a href="http://yourdomain.com/about.php">About</a></li>';
}
function add_download_link() {
echo '<li><a href="http://yourdomain.com/downloads.php">Downloads</a></li>';
}
add_action( 'bp_nav_items', 'add_forum_link' );
add_action( 'bp_nav_items', 'add_about_link' );
add_action( 'bp_nav_items', 'add_download_link' );
?>All can be in the same file called extras-links.php or whatever in /mu-plugins/ or you could create 3 seperate files with the functions, but if you have many, it is better in one plugin I think.

MemberMany thanks Trent!
Yes I’ m in need to add or rename (and relink) one button just to divert traffic on desired URL
Basically just to add a button to Home Theme Tab(here: Home About Blog Forums Docs Demo Download)
But if I do need 2 more buttons in the tab shall I proceed twice as you tought me above?
Thanks againg for the time and the teaching
January 30, 2009 at 6:00 pm #36961In reply to: need a ‘button’ in the bar
Trent Adams
ParticipantYou mean adding a link to your form in the theme? Create a file called smf-link.php and put the following in it (changing it to the smf install):
<?php
function add_forum_link() {
echo '<li><a href="http://yourdomain.com/your-smf-url.php">Forums</a></li>';
}
add_action( 'bp_nav_items', 'add_forum_link' );
?>Trent
January 30, 2009 at 5:30 pm #36959In reply to: Error posting in forum (other language)
Trent Adams
ParticipantIt might be due to the language pack that you have for bbPress itself. Maybe do a check over at https://bbpress.org/forums/ to see if you can find something out for the Thai language for bbPress as buddypress and WPMU won’t affect if bbPress (forum backend) has the language pack or not.
