Participantwpmu trak version 1574
bbpress 1.0 alpha 2
buddypress 658
pb with cookie integration between bbpress and wordpress
i cannot make the user created for buddypress in bbpress an admin as i cannot access to bbpres user profile
(it gives a 404 error on every user imported from wordpress)
it tried to use the bbpress integration function that allows to give a role to wordpress users :
the new forumbdpress is put as an administrator in wpmu
but he does not appear as an administrator is bbpress
surely those pb are not directly linked with your plugin
but it makes it working not properly :
the groups forums seems to be created but
i cannot create topics in groupes forums

Participant@punkky Well, I think you’ll still need to go in the existing blogs and make them public. The ‘privateness’ of your blogs is determined, from bp’s perspective in this particular case, by the Settings > Privacy toggle. I think, if I remember correctly, if this is Friday. That would be the only place.
I gotta go fix my group forums. I’m just avoiding the issue by talking on the forums. If I play around in the forums long enough my site will see the error of it’s ways and fix itself right?

ParticipantOh! That’s it! I had put /member-themes in /themes/ not /wp-content/!!!!
It is working now! Thank you so much. What a dumb mistake. I read where to put it a million times!
Now I can move on to install the forums!

ParticipantI’m at a total loss. This navigation bar used to work for me until about trunk r571 or so.
I took out my MU plugins one by one and without affecting any change on the navigation bar. Still blank screens.
The BP member theme is here: /wp-content/themes/member-themes/buddypress-member. That’s right?
I am not getting any error messages (as you can see above).
I can’t think of anything else to try. (I haven’t yet added the forum because I’d like to get this working again).
If you would take a look: http://gnowfglins.net/.
Thanks for the help. I appreciate any you can give!

KeymasterI missed a step. You must also enable “pingbacks” in the bbpress bb-admin. I’ve updated the instructions now.

Burt Adsit
ParticipantWell, if you want the bp forums for groups then you have to be running at least bbpress 1.0 alpha 2 and mu 2.7 trunk. The alpha part on bbpress isn’t as scary as it sounds. The release cycle on bbpress is pretty slow and it seems to work just fine.
Until yesterday I was running bbpress 1a2 and mu 2.6.2 with integration turned on. Now I’m at bb r1860 (1.0 alpha 2+), bp r654, mu 1571 (2.7). Today I get to turn on group forums.
You’re not the only one who isn’t ready. Launch date 1/1/09. Minimum 18hr days until then.

ParticipantGreat news Andy, I’ve updated to the latest trunk and am eagerly awaiting the readme so I can setup the forums.
I assume we’re to use bbPress 1.0? I’ve installed and integrated 0.9.X currently but will switch to 1.0 if that’s what BuddyPress will be using.

ParticipantHi nicola, that must have been introduced in r641. It also may be an interaction with wpmu 2.7. I’m not getting that problem in r644+.
How’s the weather in Italy today? I got 1ft of snow here in Grand Rapids, MI. Doesn’t look like I’m gonna go anywhere today anyway. Gotta install wpmu 2.7 and the bp forums component.
Life is good when you have new toys to play with.

ParticipantDamn. It’s 5a EST in the States. I’ve been up all nite fooling around with geocoding and googlemapping posts. I should have checked the forums 2 hrs ago. Well, it’ll be here when I get up now won’t it?
Thanks Andy. You know we’ve all been waiting (im)patiently for the forums component. I was reading the SVN log for bbPress. I don’t normally do that or even keep up with the revs on bbPress. Just wasn’t that important until today. It says that Sam has solved some integration problems between bbpress and wpmu. Ya, I’d surely love to see that.
Cookie & session keys that are under documented, admin user accounts disappearing, new users having ‘inactive’ roles, docs that are just plain wrong, _ck_ running around trying to help and put out fires. I don’t even remember all the headaches. Am I just tired or did that sound like you were saying I had to do all that again. Really?
I’m going to bed. So should you. One of us is hallucinating. Dreaming. You gonna write docs for that process? Dreaming, he’s dreaming.
I should be.

ParticipantThe wpmu forums are full of this kind of problem. They all seem to have the same source, the .htaccess file. Can you post your .htaccess file and tell us what kind of installation you are using?
subdomain or subdirectory?
Dedicated virtual server or shared hosting?
Is wpmu installed in the root or a subdir?
That might help.

ParticipantYou don’t have a ‘blogs’ button on your bp home page because it’s commented out. That and the normally commented ‘forums’ link are commented out together. Uncomment that and you’ll have a ‘blogs’ button.

Participant@wakuza I hate to appear stupid and ‘american’ but what language is that everyone on your site is using? This is a real question. I honestly don’t know and I’m curious.
Also that little floater bar you have going on is interesting. It’s like a banner that can’t be ignored. I can dismiss it by clicking on the big red X button but it comes back when I revisit the original page. If i dismiss it, shouldn’t it stay gone? Perhaps a cookie check for ‘user turned of announcement bar’ maybe?
I see it takes me to a placeholder for the forums in the bp home theme. It’s difficult to determine what I’m looking at since I don’t know what language it is. Google translate needs to know what language to translate from

MemberWhoa, that’s confusing because a user was plugging in my display/screen name, they would have no way of knowing the user name unless they look at the status bar path which the average user will never do. I guess the auto complete function will take care of that when it rolls out hopefully soon.
Thanks again for all the hard work here Andy. You and the team are doing some real inspirational work here with buddypress! Not only on the development and visual side, but also on being reactive the all the threads floating around your forums and answering them in a timely fashion.

ParticipantI’m pretty sure this is planned to be included in the first official release. However, in the interim, you can install bbPress on its own and integrate it with WPMU no problem and use it as a general forum.

ParticipantHey Andy, I’m sure your busy getting the beta ready and all but just wanting to check the status of the group forums… is it looking likely that group forums will make the feature list for the Dec 15 beta or should we be looking to implement an alternative forum solution for now?
Appreciate all your hard work on BuddyPress… you’re making all our lives that much easier!

ParticipantWe’ve been working with Lisa Sabin Wilson of eWebscape who built a custom BuddyPress installation on our newly launched site http://www.weheartthis.com
(Andy – We love it so far and think it will really help us build a great community!)
Some of the biggest issues we’ve faced:
1) IE issues – page alignment is off, toolbars do not work, lots of 404 messages (we’ve encouraged our members who use IE to download Firefox or Safari instead, fingers crossed that the official release will help with some of these bugs)
2) We have the same avatar cropping issue as mentioned by other posters – it’s very hit or miss for us, sometimes it works fine, sometimes it just can’t be done at all)
3) The browser title bar will read, “oops, that’s a 404 page” or “nothing found for ____” even when it isn’t a 404 page or it has found something.
4) We have installed BBpress forums as well. The password and login of our member works for both applications, but members need to login at second time when they land on the forum main page (even if they have already logged in earlier)
Thanks (and any feedback on the site is appreciated.)

December 1, 2008 at 7:09 pm #34085In reply to: BP widgets in subblogs
Burt Adsit
ParticipantThe Recent Blog Posts and the Site Wide Activity widgets both have code that restricts them to blog id 1.
The Recent Blog Posts widget lives in the mu-plugins/bp-blogs/bp-blogs-widgets.php file. There are two of those nasty blog id 1 checks at line #8 and line #30. Same thing exists in the mu-plugins/bp-activity/bp-activity-widgets.php file.
If you want ‘News’ to work in the home theme then modify themes/buddypress-home/functions.php on lines #49-#50. I just commented them out.
I’m guessing that the thinking behind this restriction is “Get it to work first, then get it to work everywhere”. Kinda like narrowing the possibilities for problems that are gonna exist anyway, down to something trackable. If you browse the forums here and on wpmu you quickly see that wpmu can be installed in about 97 different ways on 205,478 hosts. Slap on a major component like buddyPress, then let noobs like me loose upon the face of the world who want to play with my toys ‘my way’ and I understand the thinking.
