Andy Peatling
KeymasterFirst of all you’ll want to get set up with an installation of WPMU and make sure that is running correctly.
It’s probably a good idea to head over to the WPMU forums where there are a lot of expect WPMU users (https://mu.wordpress.org/forums). They will be able to help you get started with MU.
Once you have that up and running, come back here and we can guide you through installing BuddyPress on top.

ParticipantI did notice that Andy was asking for help on this topic. I have been looking into it and posting for help on various forums around the web, but from the research I have done so far it appears that it’s almost impossible to have a dropdown menu work correctly in IE without Javascript. Unfortunately none of the javascript options are working for me as well. I’ll keep looking into it.

Membermy mistake was that i uploaded all files in plugin directory .. i forgot to put the theme in the themes directory.. once you do that, the current theme of buddypress shows up..
regardless, even after that there are bugs like https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=141 and https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=97 which need to be sorted out

KeymasterI think there needs to be an is_page() check done before the URL hijacking takes place. Can you submit a ticket for this at: https://trac.buddypress.org/newticket (wp.org support forum login creds)

KeymasterIn the latest build it is a forced monster ID if there is no user uploaded avatar. This will be user configurable in the future.

MemberI get an erros saying I am not authorised to put in a ticket
Edited to say forget it, finally after searching and searching i found out to use my WP sign in..
Things are so higgledypiggledy here, why have a forum if we have a bug ticket? Just have on or the other surely? So hard to find information

ParticipantAndy has tossed around a few ideas about having the solution you are looking at as an option. There is a thread in these forums that is pretty recent.

ParticipantKeeping on this post, how do I get my posts authors to show up as a monster or random image? Cause when I look at them now they show up as a question mark.?. when users don’t upload a pic. I set my setting to monsters in my admin, does that mean every user thereafter will receive a monster pic?

ParticipantThanks Andy! We’ll be looking at the forum and other BP parts later. By then you may have released the first stable version… but good to know that the integration with BBPress is taking shape.

ParticipantI’ve integrated bbPress with WPMU to share user logins (couldn’t get cookies to work unfortunately) and was preparing to launch them both this week. Should I hold off on launching bbPress until you’ve integrated it more fully, or would I be okay using the system as I have it now and simply adding the BuddyPress forum functionality down the road.
Thanks!

ParticipantI downloaded Opera but can’t seem to replicate the problems, though I did customize the logo as I outlined here. Might be worth trying that out to see if it solves the issues.

ParticipantGlad you found and shared a temporary workaround. This was also brought up in another topic recently, and Andy said “In the first version for the end of the year, BuddyPress will only support open networks. However, the plan is to put together a generic privacy component which can be used by all components to restrict and allow customizable privacy levels.”.
Privacy isn’t built in yet but it will be soon enough.

ParticipantThere are also user online plugins for bbPress for those who have integrated forums and are looking for other alternatives, though the one I linked above definitely works with MU.
I’m looking forward to the chat plugin duanestorey. I’ve hosted chat rooms before but it’d be nice to have one that ties into the MU/BuddyPress login system.

MemberSame idea here https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=25#post-92 , where Andy linked to this topic
.I think we need to discuss more about it.
We can handle such URL like http://domain.com/andypeatling/home or http://domain.com/user/andypeatling simply by customizing the home theme. Instead of using another theme for the home base, let the home theme handle it.
I hope the other components have enough flexibility to be used in such way.

Number 1 is not possible right now, but a plugin could be written for this.

The rest of them are a no at the moment, but plugins could be created to add all of your desired functionality.
