    I would GUESS that you could edit that plugin to add in the code as mentioned above https://buddypress.org/support/topic/how-users-can-link-to-their-profile/

    Or ask the plugin author for clarification.

    I stopped using that plugin when they added the extra security stuff for strong passwords that broke things for me.. however the plugin’s support page is pretty active, and given that he/she has options for redirecting users after login based on role – there may be an easy way to add such functionality to the plugin by asking the plugin author.

    There is a bit of info with some of the functions here ->https://codex.buddypress.org/themes/members-navigation-menus/

    I see others are asking about bp xprofile fields and such within the them my login support forum,
    ( wordpress.org/support/plugin/theme-my-login )
    so hopefully this plugin author will add more and more BP options – I enjoyed using that plugin some time ago – hope it continues to mature.

    first test with default 2014 or 2015 theme – and all other plugins disabled except bp – does it work then? If not…

    previous forum posts maybe helpful –
    (let us know what you find works!)

    With a new bp setup I usually check these things first if email are not seeming to send or go through ->https://buddypress.org/support/topic/activation-e-mail-failing-to-send/#post-241079 (From a recent similar thread)

    Better to check the basics before digging into whether it’s a email header config on the server, php settings limiting functionality – need for wp to send as smtp plugin – something just with gmail blackhole filtering –

    so many different things can affect wp sending, bp sending, your web serving sending email as php, or an email service accepting something that was sent, much less put in the actual inbox instead of junk mail / promotions box or whatever…

    =-=- also from danbp about 8 months ago:
    When encountering a registration problem, first thing to do is to test your install without any plugins and one of WP’s Twenty default theme. Ensure that your site send correctly emails. Before activating any plugin, your base WP install must work.

    Once WP is OK – you can install BuddyPress and check your permalinks. Pretty permalinks must be activated to get the plugin working correctly.

    This point is important, especially if you have redirection issues after BP is activated.

    Second point to check is your theme installation.

    Proceeding like this will help you to isolate easely the culprit. If:
    – WP install: OK
    – BP install: OK
    – theme activation: problem

    So you know here the problem comes from.

    While testing your install, you can activate wp_debug (set to TRUE) in the wp-config file. This can give you a lot of information about conflict and/or errors.

    Just keep in mind that these information have 2 levels of importance: notice and warning.
    While notice are generally harmless, warnings should be taken seriously in account and solved.

    If WP is the problem, see first the wordPress support
    If it’s BuddyPress, see the BP support
    If it’s the theme, see the theme support
    If it’s any other plugin, see first the plugin support.

    No thank you ! If you need someone to get the job, hire a dev. You could post at the official WordPress Jobs Board at https://jobs.wordpress.net and/or here at https://buddypress.org/support/forum/plugin-forums/bp-jobs-board/

    I was running WP and BBPress… and user where handled as forum user by bbPress. Now you use BP and bbpress aside.
    Deactivate bbpress and make sure you have only one member page (and no one in trash too). Sync BP profiles with WP – all this can be done in BP settings. Check that all is working correctly, then reactivate bbPress.

    Now if it still doesn’t work, sorry for you, but there is no result without effort. You have an issue and we’re trying to debug it.

    I presume you have no local install where you could test previously from prod site ?

    Keep Twenty Twelve active and deactivate all plugins, as the issue may come from a js conflict which we have to isolate at first.

    If you use some mu-plugin or custom functions in bp-custom.php, think to remove them temporary.

    Im using raindrops. I seen the other themes jazz the profile look. I also noticed it changed the link in bbpress to the profile not the forum dashboard. Im not good with php so if i can copy and past that helps

    @umar007, it’s not a problem, it’s how it’s intended to work. 😉

    Above snippet handles the activity output, not the activity filters. I wrote also it’s a kind of all or nothing thing….
    Understand that if you have, for example, an activity wall showing only updates and posts, you can’t filter this wall by new member or profile information. You can’t filter what you deactivated !

    You can use another approach, by adding eventually other filters or use a specific scope on the template, for example updates, which will show by default an activity wall of only updates, but where users can get all other activities if they use the one or other avaible filter.

    As example, try:

    function my_bp_add_custom_activity_dropdown_filter() {

    //This filters the activity loop by new blog posts, blog comments and forum topics.

            $types = 'new_blog_post,new_blog_comment,bbp_topic_create,new_forum_topic';
    ?>

            <option value="<?php esc_attr_e( $types ); ?>">New Content</option>

    <?php
    }
    add_action( 'bp_activity_filter_options', 'my_bp_add_custom_activity_dropdown_filter' );

    Hope to be clear. 😉

    Thank you for your answer, but like you said, BuddyPress not google +, not Twitter, not facebook, but it is not a normal social networking sites, long live, long live, I find the plug-in, that is bp-reshare, see: http://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/a-plugin-that-allow-users-to-share-status-update-on-bp

    I love bp-reshare
    I love BuddyPress
    I love you all

    Please, use <code> button when you publish code on this forum.

    I tested the snippet and it works. No blank page or error message.
    Do you use some other functions in bp-custom ?

    Check also the quotes. You should use straight quotes 'xxx', not apostrophe ‘xxxx’

    haha, @hnla <3 the side effect of wp’s teaser:
    One central account.
    One unified admin area.
    One click install.

    … how long whould it take to finally repair & make this forum and codex pages to work correctly, with a clear admin ?

    edit// Scrub above you’re already an active participant I see looking at your profile.

    @lo133 – there are many, many reasons for NOT..

    but in case you are looking to do such (a horrible thing for your site, your users, their privacy, crappy buttons cluttering up..)

    A quick search via startpage.com shows there are several discussions about this and it appears that multiple people have discussed and come up with ways to do such a (n evil) thing..

    including.. https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-social/
    discussions for doing this with various methods outlined from three years ago – https://buddypress.org/support/topic/share-activity-on-social-network/

    I would imagine there are some updated options as well, or it should be simply to tweak existing code that is already in the wild and gpl to do this today.

    of course you could also search the forums here and find more info about that more than likely – and a search in the wp-repo may bring up some free options to test that may do exactly what you are describing.

    I myself am glad this stuff is not included in core – as I would be searching for ways to remove every single last little bit of any third party code / assets and or dependencies..

    kind of like what needs to be done with recent updates of wordpress core – removing google fonts, removing gravatar, third party emoji, blah blah. meh.

    I just figure it out. I reset the permalinks on buddypress forums settings and the problem is resolved.

    @labsupplyorg
    Topics? You mean like bbpress forums topics? What do you mean exactly by “topic pages”?

    I would..
    check your permanlinks perhaps? go there, note what they are.. change them to something else.. save.. then change back.. save again..
    May not be related, but on one of my sites this similar issue crops up every other time I update rtmedia plugin for some reason.

    Does this happen if you disable other plugins?
    Does this happen with the default twenty-fifteen or 2014 theme?

    @jrunfitpro What djsteveb said. Best place to ask is at the theme author’s forums. Saw their page with list of incompatible themes and plugins. BuddyPress has not been included in that list though no one has answered the question of one who asked if anyone has made it work with BP.

    Hi @hich-em

    You should ask this question on the plugin’s support forum.

    @kawaiikawaii – does it work if you disable
    buddypress-social-icons
    mycred

    and any other plugins, along with switching to 2014 theme?

    Is this happening when using a desktop computer or a mobile device?

    My users have been telling me that rtmedia image uploads no longer make it to the activity stream or profiles when they try using an android device (tablet or cell) – this has been reported my several others at the rtcamp’s no-support-community-forums ( http://community.rtcamp.com/t/cant-upload-photos-using-android-devices/4892/8 )

    At this point I don’t know what the problem is – is it wp’s new security update thing that broke a lot of things?

    I’m still searching for answers – but this is a major problem and a reason I have been suggesting for years that BP has media uploads as part of core (most recently here – https://buddypress.org/support/topic/rtmedia-export-script-attachments-api/ )- and hopefully hooks into the new bp-attachments thing.

    Now if someone can code an export / import conversion to pull all the info from rtmedia into basic structured info that any theme or other plugin can call / style, etc – I’d love to axe the ridiculously bloated rtmedia BS.

    although I thought that I had seen somewhere in the forums that using an API to sign new members up was “a bad thing”. But I can’t remember why!

    The reason was likely related to user privacy. Perhaps incorporate something in the third-party CMS’s terms of use so that at least users will be made aware of what will happen. But, that’s a business decision you’ll need to make.

    Take a look here. You should be able to see how BuddyPress registers users by looking at the bp_core_screen_signup() function.

    Hope this helps 🙂

    The other CMS is bespoke, so I know that it won’t be just plug and go.

    Automatically signing up makes sense… although I thought that I had seen somewhere in the forums that using an API to sign new members up was “a bad thing”. But I can’t remember why!

    Can you point me to where I should be adding a the member (in the code) – I am assuming that I need to create the member / user in WordPress, and allow BuddyPress to use that authentication. Or should I be adding the user in BuddyPress? As you can tell, I haven’t downloaded it yet, until I check if I can use it.

    Not that I’m aware of. Have you tried reporting the problems you’re seeing on the plugin’s support forum?

    #242698

    @atfpodcast – this has been brought up in the support forums a few times – you could search the forums for “chat”
    For basic no frills chat room and bp I would start with the free “quick chat” plugin in the wp-repo – I use it on a couple of sites and it’s fine for most.. if you chat or and server gets busy you may want to move on to something that does not rely so much on using mysql.. I posted some info at the bottom of one of these following threads about that

    I would suggest perhaps starting here:
    https://buddypress.org/support/topic/chat-plugins-with-one-to-many-messaging/#post-241066

    https://buddypress.org/support/topic/chat-plugin-recommendations-2/

    Search the forums and you will find more discussions about these – I can only post two links in this reply so can’t be more specific with a single post.

    Your mileage may vary – but I have not had any good real world use with ‘comet chat’ nor ‘wpmu’s chat plugin’ – chat systems that are free almost always use your sql database for message storage and require a bunch of back and forth ajax like server requests – fine if you have less than 20 people chatting on a dedicated server – not so good when it gets to be more than that in my previous experiences – some of the other chat systems rely on third party servers – which puts you in a position of giving away all of your users data to others, dealing with the fact their servers are out of your control and may not work all the time – stuff like that..

    read the other convos for more details I guess..
