In reply to: [Resolved] Groups function is broken
pihla
ParticipantHello,
I had to delete the group that had been created with id 0 before I got this tracer to work. But then it showed this:
newly created group args: BP_Groups_Group Object
(
[id] => 0
[creator_id] => 22
[name] => test group
[slug] => test-group
[description] => this is a test group
[status] => public
[enable_forum] => 0
[date_created] => 2015-06-16 07:54:06
[admins] =>
[mods] =>
[total_member_count] =>
[is_member] =>
[is_invited] =>
[is_pending] =>
[last_activity] =>
[user_has_access] =>
[args] => Array
(
[populate_extras] =>
))
So the problem is that the group is always created with id=0. I was able to create a page though, so I don’t think it is the same problem that @shanebp mentioned as a problem of 4.2.2 but who knows.

ParticipantThe text tab used for group forum is striped by bbpress filters and BP filters. And the visual editor is set to off by default since bbp 2.3
If you need visual tab with some tinyMCE buttons, read here, maybe you can arrange this to your need ?June 16, 2015 at 6:34 am #240755In reply to: @mention autosuggest in visual editor

Participant@danbp
Thanks for your suggestion Dan.
I already tried that. There are two problems with that snippent. The first being that the is_bbpress() is returning false when i access bbpress forums in a buddypress group (theme: firmasite). Thats easy to solve through eliminating that check.
The second problem is that currently the @mentions system isn’t working for the visual tab in tinyMCE, it works only for the text tab. Also discussed briefly between Paul Gibbs and Unsal Korkmaz here: https://buddypress.org/support/topic/buddypress-2-1-patsy/ (see comments)One of the requirements for our platform is that users can use those fancy buttons in the visual tab, but having the mentions autocomplete only in the text tab is a little bit ..you know…unexpected for users š
Thus i hoped i can somehow manage to reproduce the approach of OakCreative, but I havent been successful.
Maybe also updating the at.js is a way to go, but the jump from the used version (0.5.2) to the current (1.3.0) seems to be to big to work just with replacing the script.
So this is my current knowledge about this topic. Does anyone know how to proceed? Or should i create a ticket for this, so that the devs can have a look into this in future releases? I havent found any ticket dealing with exactly this.June 15, 2015 at 3:07 pm #240732In reply to: [Resolved] Groups function is broken

KeymasterHi Pihla-
I can’t reproduce the problem you’re having. Can you add a tracer to your theme’s functions file or to
bp-custom.phpthen try to create a group?https://gist.github.com/dcavins/a9197f21d7f31b6594bc
I added this to my theme’s
functions.phpand the file that it created (groups_group_after_save_args.txt) ended up at the root of my site. It looked like this:newly created group args: BP_Groups_Group Object ( [id] => 8 [creator_id] => 4 [name] => Number 5 [slug] => number-5 [description] => Will this be recorded? [status] => public [enable_forum] => 0 [date_created] => 2015-06-15 14:59:00 [admins] => [mods] => [total_member_count] => [is_member] => [is_invited] => [is_pending] => [last_activity] => [user_has_access] => [args] => Array ( [populate_extras] => ) )Please let me know if you can do this test and what the results are.

ct25
ParticipantI’ll try to explain it differently:
I had a problem on my WordPress members page, it was not automatically refreshing when you change the sort terms (alphabetical, last activity). Also, when you manually refreshed the page it did not change the order. I added select and when statements to the member-template.php and it sorted correctly but it did not automatically refresh. When you change the sort it would bring up no member but the manual refresh brought the members back according to the sort mode selected. This issue also happened with the other themes.
I believed it was the Ajax issue that many users were having (there are many forums about this same issue) and none of the fixes worked. So then, one user suggested to deactivate the plug-in, delete it, and reinstall. That also did not work.
I did notice the Ajax bypass code is located in a core file however, none of the files are active at this point (the all say inactive in the editor).
After the plug-in was reinstalled it caused the function not to work at all.

ParticipantThank you very much for your answer!
I thougth first that with BP 1.1 and higher you can now use a forum from within a component of buddypress directly instead of using bbPress.
I thank you, that you clarified that. So I will use bbPress furthermore š

Participantdo you plan to ask the same question each day ? It’s the fourth time now, and you received many answers in the past 3 days. Or you received erroneous answers or you didn’t understand them or couldn’t find a solution by yourself. That’s life and i’m sorry for you but it’s just a forum here, not a miracle shop.
You say My hosting plan server is iPage (which uses NGINX), running a 5.0 PHP version.
If 5.0 is really the php version, you can’t use WP or BP with this old version as both require at least 5.2 version.
For Nginx server, have you read WP’s codex ?
https://codex.wordpress.org/Nginx
Search for nginx install on wordpress.org brings also several answers…For paid consultants, post the job to http://jobs.wordpress.net/ or BP Jobs Board.

ParticipantOK I’ve been able to recreate the problem which has given me a much better understanding of what is going wrong. Worryingly, it seems the problem also affects anyone who’s signed up for the first time:
* New users (and some existing users) are shown the message “You cannot create new topics” in forums belonging to groups which they are not members of.
* They are also shown the message “You cannot reply to this topic” in topic threads of forums belonging to groups which they are not members of.
* If they join the group, these messages go awayI thought the way it was supposed to work was that users can post in any public forum, and when they do so for the first time they automatically become a member of that group. Is that correct? If so why isn’t that working here?
I have tried disabling all plugins (apart from BuddyPress and BBPress, of course) and using a default theme, all of which made no difference.
I am still unable to run the āRemap existing users to default forum rolesā option in /wp-admin/tools.php?page=bbp-repair. If I disable all plugins (apart from BuddyPress and BBPress) then when I run it I get the following error:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 268435456 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 262144 bytes) in /var/www/f1fanatic/htdocs/wp-includes/cache.php on line 631
I am looking into whether I can raise the memory limit on the server to get it to run. In the meantime if anyone can shed any light on this problem please do!

ParticipantThat’s an old bug who was patched. (see here) Check bbpress code and update it if you’re using an older version.
Also, if you have debug mode on in wp-config, revert it to off.
If the message still remains, deactivate your theme and use Twenty Fifteen or Fourteen to test.
If the message disappear, you know the culprit. In that case , contact your theme supportJune 12, 2015 at 8:15 am #240622In reply to: [Resolved] Groups function is broken

i’m pleased to see that you read the Codex. But sorry for your mention, there is also written a few words before: In BuddyPress 1.1 this all works with one click.
And if not enough, the paragraph title is Introduction for Forums in BP 1.2+
As of june 2015, current BuddyPress version is 2.3.1 and there is no forum included in BuddyPress, reason why you haven’t find any information.
Further on Codex you can read:
There are a couple of reasons why you might want to consider migrating to the bbPress plugin:bbPress is being actively developed; the āDiscussion Forumsā component in BuddyPress is retiring as of BuddyPress 1.7. The retired component will continue to work, but no new features will be incorporated by the BuddyPress team.
bbPress has a bunch of cool features that BP Discussion Forums doesnāt: extensive moderation via the WP admin dashboard, topic splitting, revisions, spam management, favorites, subscriptions, and more.
See: https://codex.buddypress.org/legacy/getting-started/using-bbpress-2-2-with-buddypress/If you want a forum aside BP you have to use a forum plugin and bbPress is recommended for that.

ParticipantI re-enabled the Groups and now the Alphabetical selection is back along with the complete list of member. “Repaired” the counting but the “All Members” count is incorrect. Will keep gleaning from the forum pages. Thanks for your reply.

It sounds like you need to delete both the group and the forum for that group.

ParticipantHi @ethanoltom,
don’t double post (this-webpage-has-a-redirect-loop) as it doesn’t bring faster or any answer. Also, searching for similar issues before asking is good practice.
So please, read here and follow advices. You’re not the only one whith this issue. For now, deactivate also your theme, any plugins except BuddyPress and if you use a cache plugin, clear it previously.
Concerning the forum rules, please read here. If you use some custom functions, remove them too while testing.Aside, i visited this profile. I would recommend you review your email strategy, it’s not a good idea to show it publicly.

The random phpforum you speak of, is that another website? If so, you have malware and will need to remove it.

ParticipantBP doesn’t have forums, forums are integrated into BP only if you install and run the bbPress plugin and then activate it for BP.
Something else is causing your issues, especially if you have deativated BP as it now no longer can direct things anywhere.
However your about page does direct to a page about the site not ‘some’ forum so not sure what your seeing there.
I note that your permalinks are set to default, BP requires that anything other than default is selected i.e NOT ?p=
Unless there is a very good reason there’s no point to not using pretty permalinks, human readable links and this is likely part of the issue.
Also deactivate any other plugins running to test further.

Possibly, but let us be sure. Can you activate TwentyFifteen and test again?
June 8, 2015 at 10:39 am #240428In reply to: How to show sitewide activity in profile page
nickofnight
ParticipantHi, thanks for the response!
I am trying to create a useful page for people once they log in, showing recommended groups for them based on their profile, forum posts they are subscribed to etc – basically a personalised portal to what is going on on the site and what they might be interested in doing.
Showing sitewide activity on that page would be great and encourage them to reply to other peoples comments/status’s etc. Showing only their own activity on it right now is a bit pointless.

Teratoma
ParticipantPolitely bumping this – perhaps it’s my fault for not articulating the issue well enough in the op, but I don’t feel like this was given any real attention.
I *did* indicate that the username was *not* admin, but was displaying as such. I have every setting I can find set to display it as the actual username, which it does in the forums and on the members list – just not in the profile.
Can someone please help me with this?
