Every time I try to post an update, OR post privately to somebody here on the forum, I get a red bar that says “there was a problem posting your update. please try again”
It’s always been this way for me here
Hi
Every time someone does something to cause a notification to happen such as commenting or sending a message an error occurs but still shows the notification, this is the error when I send a private message.
Fatal error: Call to undefined function bp_get_settings_slug() in /hermes/bosweb26d/b1249/ipg.krugersightingscom/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-messages/bp-messages-notifications.php on line 20
Please help.
I’m on the latest version on WP and BP
I’m unable to reproduce the problem. Without being able to reproduce, I’m afraid there’s nothing I can do.
Perhaps you can try installing a fresh installation of BuddyPress somewhere else, and then attempting to reproduce the issue. Take careful notes of the steps required to reproduce, so that you can share them with the team.
Boone Gorges, or anybody else, is there an update on this? PLEASE let me know, this is a serious issue
I put a link to the users Private Messages folder on the sidebar.php and I also want to display the number of unread messages. Is there a function to display that?
@ultimateuser – It’s much easier to do this in BP 1.5.
Remove the old snippet and add the following to wp-config.php or /wp-content/plugins/bp-custom.php:
`define( ‘BP_MESSAGES_AUTOCOMPLETE_ALL’, true );`
I’m still following this, any update?
Hi, I’m using the BP follow plugin (which rocks
) but I came across a little surprise trying to extend it. As I posted on the plugin’s forum I want users to be able send each other PMs if the destinatary is following the sender. I managed to get that but the “Private message” button was still there. I made a little hook to remove if it’s not possible to send a message to the user but in order to make it I found out that the function used to get the following’s ids returns a string, instead of an array of ids (which was my guess).
I’m not a programmer (I’m learning to code with BP) but I think bp_get_following_ids() returning an array would be much more useful. What do you think ?
Thanks !
In bp-default, the problem persists.
please do – recently new plugin.
You´re a star
Going to set it up tonight so I can start testing in the morning.
Checking those would allow regular members to send PM to other members meeting the requirement (ie, a friend, a follower connection, or member sharing the group membership)
If none are checked – then by default – only the administrator may send PMs to members (and members to the administrators defined by the wp_cap)
Thanks for making this plugin, and double thanks for notifing me about it!
I´ve set the settings to;
Mode: Admin
What happens if I don´t tick the boxes in friends only or groups only?
Could members send to both or none?
if on latest bp/wp – then https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-restrict-messages/ long as the users sending has the wp_cap of ‘administrator’
Hi there,
I would like to restrict the private messaging to only admin – user trafic.
How can I set this up?
Example:
In my case I would like to send messages from 3 different user accounts, being:
– Newsletter
– Admin
– Customer support
The user may reply to these, but don´t want users to send messages to eachother.
Thanks!
Have you figured this one out? I would like to do the same
awesome plugin!
How do I:
1) Restrict membership to buddypress (Admin to approve sign ups) and have all member content private from guest viewing?
2) Have a guest area – eg. home page of wordpress to be accessible for guests?
I appreciate your help!
Can you switch to bp-default to see if the problem persists?
This is even WORSE…
-Hidden/private group activity DOES show for logged-out users
-Hidden/private group activity DOES show on the Friends activity tab
I’m using Themekraft CCPro as well as S2member.
Also using BP Forums Extras: View activity comments on forum posts
Activity Bump.
I’ve made no modifications to activity-loop.php.
For the moment, I can restrict activity for not logged in users by using s2member’s uri restrictions, but this is just a patch, there’s something funny going on here.
Daisy
PS as an aside, I can’t access any forum topics I’ve started or replied to through my profile page *on this site*. Also can’t post activity updates or private messages to anybody. Can’t access forum replies via the menu at the very top of the page either.
I can’t reproduce either issue on my local installations.
– Hidden/private group activity does not show for logged-out users
– Hidden/private group activity does not show on the Friends activity tab
Are either of you running plugins that affect the way that activity works? Or is there something in your custom theme that modifies the activity loop?
I am having this issue – Private Groups are showing up to logged in users, under the ‘my friends’ tab in the activity stream, even though they themselves are not a member of the group that is private!! I am using BP for a paid membership site, please help, this is a hole in the privacy….
I removed the ‘all members’ activity stream option/tab from my theme, so I don’t have to worry about that, but still…private group activity shouldn’t show up there?!
BTW I tried to PM Boone Gorges about this and I can’t post any updates here at buddypress.org for some reason…
I am using BP 1.5.1 and am having this exact issue – is it still an issue or am I missing something? Private groups still populate the ‘my friends’ activity feed. Nonmembers can see the activity of their ‘friends’ in private groups in the activity feed. I’ve disabled the ‘all members’ tab in the activity feed because of this issue, so I can’t currently comment on whether private groups are showing up in the ‘all members’ filter.
THANKS! I’m running a paid membership site so this is a biggie
