I’ve been playing around with my Buddypress installation, trying to understand the system. One thing I don’t really understand is the concept behind the WP vs. BP profiles. I understand that BP profiles are public and WP profile fields are private, and that some information, like the main account email is mirrored between the two. I suppose that back when BP was born there wasn’t much to do with the WP profile information, but now there are appparently core functions allowing the extension of the standard profile fields. Since the BP-members are necessarily WP members, I think that the user management should be integrated, with BP-xprofiles offering a front end UI fpr profile editing and a way to make the information public.
So, basically, I guess my question is – does anyone know of documents explaing how and why the current x-profile/WP-structure is done the way it is, and, possibly, how it is done in a bit more detailed way. I couldn’t find anything.
Thanks!
I would like to make all members friends by default
The reason why:
I want the public to see some info about th members and we are using the Profile Privacy Setup plugin so members can decide what info they want to make public and what to keep private.I installed WordPress together with Buddypress and wanted to keep the community private only for registered members. So I installed the Private Community Plugin. It works fine, but I want that users can register to the community and watch the contact form.
The FAQ of the plugin shows how to allow these URLs, but I did not get it to work. I do not know where I should enter the code in the file “mm-buddypress-private-community.php”. Can someone help me?
Topic: Disable activity RSS
I can’t figure this one out. I’m disabling my network RSS feeds. Each plugin I tried mainly works, except the activity feed on my root blog still shows posts. Is there a way to disable the activity RSS? Hopefully if I can, it will allow the activity to still show within the site. Plugins tested: Buddypress private community, Private buddypress, Private wp suit, Private wp, Private wp 2, Private only, and Disable RSS. (wp 3.0.1+mu+bp)
I’ve tried this code I got from http://buddypress.org/community/groups/creating-extending/forum/topic/disable-all-rss-feeds/ by putting it at the end in my ftp.
function bp_remove_feeds() {
remove_action( ‘wp’, ‘bp_activity_action_sitewide_feed’, 3 );
remove_action( ‘wp’, ‘bp_activity_action_personal_feed’, 3 );
remove_action( ‘wp’, ‘bp_activity_action_friends_feed’, 3 );
remove_action( ‘wp’, ‘bp_activity_action_my_groups_feed’, 3 );
remove_action( ‘wp’, ‘bp_activity_action_mentions_feed’, 3 );
remove_action( ‘wp’, ‘bp_activity_action_favorites_feed’, 3 );
remove_action( ‘wp’, ‘groups_action_group_feed’, 3 );
}
add_action(‘init’, ‘bp_remove_feeds’);No results. Also I tried putting it at the end of the functions php file in appearance>editor in the dashboard. Is there a specific place to put it?
I am receiving the following error when I try to use the RSS feed for our site’s main Activity feed. I would like to post the 5 most recent activities in the RSS Widget in the Sidebar.
I am running the BuddyPress Private Community plug-in – any chance that is causing this problem?

^Topic: Allow Only Public Groups
hello – i’d like to create the option where any group that registers can only be an open group (rather than private or invite-only). Any suggestions on this?
thanks much,
Chris

No intention to limit you at all, just keeping it simple and clear. Of course you could install BuddyPress, and activate only the component/s you need at this time.
