BuddyPress is free – there is nothing to purchase.
Youzify replaces most of the BP templates – you should send any questions about that to them.
BP activity search does not use key words, it only uses an exact match on the text as a substring.

Hi all,

I’m trying to modify the BuddyPress activity loop for my BuddyBoss site. I have quite a specific outcome in mind, but any help towards attaining this will be very welcome. I have a rough idea of most of the moving parts but I’m finding it difficult to pull it all together so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I’m trying to make a loop that shows forum replies and discussions which have an image uploaded to them and are posted with a specific word or hashtag.

I have two major questions:

1. Does anybody have an example of a working loop which could be placed into a PHP shortcode creator so I can experiment with the different things the loop can be modified to show? I’m having trouble even creating a working loop right now.

2. I know I can search through loops via keyword to filter out the hashtag, but is anyone aware of how to only return replies or discussion posts with images attached/uploaded? I can’t seem to work this bit out.

Any information very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I have two questions:

1 Is it possible to redirect registration to the root blog of WP multisite? (BuddyPress is network active and root blog is in the main site of the WP installation.)

2 Is it possible to disable BuddyPress on one site (blog) in the network?

Hello,

I was wanting to create a button link in elementor to the BuddyPress user view profile page. I’m struggling to find the correct info.

There’s basically a link field in elementor available just like this https://pasteboard.co/JI8WdfI.png

The closest I found was the following:

https://buddypress.org/support/topic/logged-in-user-profile-link-url/
https://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/35163/add-buddypress-profile-and-messages-link-to-wordpress-menu

Using Ocean WP theme, Buddypress 7.1.0 (v latest at time of post)

Kind regards

Hi All,

I’ve just installed BuddyPress, bbPress and BuddyX with the BuddyX child theme. When I click on the “RSS” feed button (which I don’t even particularly need for the record), it brings me to a broken link site point to BuddyPress:

Title: “https://www.medsupplynetwork.com/activity/feed/”
Body: “

MedSupply Network | Site-Wide Activity

https://www.medsupplynetwork.com/activity/</link>

Activity feed for the entire site.

https://buddypress.org/?v=7.3.0</generator>

<iframe src=”https://app.zoominfo.com/reachout-pixel/track?app=DOZI&url=https://www.medsupplynetwork.com/activity/feed/” id=”reachout__pixel” frameborder=”0″ scrolling=”no” style=”width:1px; height:1px; display: block”/>

”

I have no idea what’s going on with this…
Also, a couple of questions:
1.) Do I need to install rtMedia directly?
2.) Do BuddyPress and BuddyX work together directly?
I know the developer of BuddyX is a BuddyPress (or former – not sure?) developer of BuddyPress – but I want to make sure that everything is in sync and I’m not using BuddyBoss b/c it appears that BuddyBoss and BuddyPress are not 100% in sync with each other.

I’m aiming to create a social networking website for healthcare profesionals and medical suppliers in the safest (technical) way possible – and I’ve built this using Linux Ubuntu + NGINX + MYSQL + PHP 7.4-fpm + AWS EC2 (and route 53 elb asg’s etc.).

any help woudl be greatly appreciated!

Hi everyone!

I am totally new to buddy press and this board.

So far I am getting along great and set up my network already and am super happy with all the support here. But sometimes it is hard to find the right information in this sea of knowledge.

So far I liked the twetytwentyone theme all right and made a simple copy of it on my server so I don’t have to file with child-theme-issues. I got through to find the functions.php and started trying to add some code at the bottom of this document wich shoed some effects already.

So I would be delighted if someone could direct me to the right information for a few points:

– I want to get rid of the different tabs / the menu in the profiles but instead show just Picture and Name (as normal) and than a text (created a profile-tab for this already) and the list of friends below the text.

– I would love to assign user-profiles different categories so I could e.g. select “farmers” from the top menu and sho a list of all “farmers” (actually it would be nice to see the categories that apply in a profile, too. These categories would be predefined (unlike lets say an Instagram hashtag that I could create on my own). Could someone point me in a direction how to make this happen? This could also be something like a sing up question where one could check the boxes that apply…

Some informations on the why: I trie to help friends from an NGO here in Switzerland with an makeshift network to bridge some time until they can raise money for a developer who will take over (so pardon me as I have very limited knowledge). The network will showcase you as a person or organization (basically the same in terms of the website) and show links to other persons or organizations. It is not intended that people create posts and content beyond their initial profile wich should make it easier to start but sometime contradicts a bit the default of BuddyPress i think.

Thank you all very much for reading and helping and also letting me know if I move my question to a different part of this board.

/Leo

Hello All, I have 2 questions I’m wondering if anyone can help with.

User Registration
When a user tries to register, the password field already has a pw entered. Is there a reason this is happening? It didn’t use to happen in previous version of BuddyPress. I can’t imagine people would sign up with a password already in the password box, so I’m wondering what the point of this is:

1) I’d consider it suspicious. I’d delete and put my own pw in.
2) I’d have to remember a password generated by the site instead of my own password.
3) It makes me think there’s some bug with the site. None of the big platforms has a pw already put in there for you to use.

Is there a way to turn this automatic password generation off?

Profile navigation
With the new BuddyPress update, everyone’s profile now has an arrow on the left and right of the page, which directs you to another profile. Is there a way to turn this off, or do we need to use CSS (display: none;) to remove it?

Thanks.

1- BuddyPress does not bundle any theme itself
2- theme-specific questions
3- ideally you can view it at domain.com/forums/single-forum-slug or domain.com/forums
to isolate any theme-specific limitation you can also test with WordPress default 2021 theme.
4- theme my login plugin provides role base redirect and also when you are using different login pages, they act differently.

Hello
When I install that plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/lock-my-bp/) it works perfectly – except now, my existing buddypress registration and login (with custom signup questions) is now replaced by what looks like standard WP Login/Register fields.

Q: how can I disable keep my original Login/Register signup page/fields?
(I cannot see any shortcodes in my exiating BuddyPress register page to enter in lock-my-bp ‘Custom Form’ field – it’s blank)

The page I need help with: https://www.101christianchat.com/members/

I just installed BuddyPress 7.2.1 on a development site running Elementor 3.1.4 and Elementor Pro 3.2.0 on WordPress 5.7. I discovered that BuddyPress causes the Elementor editor to hang when you attempt to edit an element. Deactivating BuddyPress immediately restored standard functionality. I am also running bbPress 2.6.6 and have had no issues with that. I had already configured a number of BuddyPress group forums and was really looking forward to using it, but this is a deal-breaker if I can’t use the Elementor editor! I really hope the conflict can be resolved as we’re hoping to go live with the site soon. I can share the url and answer questions in more detail if we are able to continue this conversation offline. Let me know how to submit a support ticket or email support if so. Thank you!

meta is info about the field.
It sounds like you want field data for a specific user.
To retrieve the field value for a specific field for a specific user:

In the context of a profile, use bp_profile_field_data.

When not viewing a profile, use xprofile_get_field_data.

If you have questions specific to BuddyForms, you need to ask the creator of that plugin.

Many pages of the codex are not up to date.
The codex contains a lot of useful info, but for code questions the best approach is to look at the source code for BP.

I would like to add the option for users, when they send each other private messages, to also be able to send each other a ice-breaker question, that can be responded to by te receiver of the message.

I was able to add a icebreaker question in the compose area of the sender, but I was not able to have sent the actual answer of the question received by the receiver of the message when he/she answered. Where in Buddypress can I enable that an added questions answer, is also received by the receiver of the message, in that private message? “please advice!” even suggestions to which is the right file, helps me at this stage. Thank you for your effort to support me!

Hello!

I have a question about groups.
I searched for this question and did not find any matching questions.

I’m also new to wordpress/buddypress, so please bear with me πŸ™‚

Here is my site https://uwcnorthyork.ca/
WordPress version: 5.4.2
BuddyPress version: 2.3.0

My question is:
When a user requests permission to join a group, is there a way to get an email sent to the moderator of that group, (so they can accept them)?
Right now the email goes to the site admin (me) which is ok, but its important that it goes to the moderator as well. If it can only go to one of these, then I would like it to be the moderator.

Any help would be appreciated.

I’m afraid all bbPress specific questions are better to be asked on the bbPress forum.
I’ve checked their forum and I see that you got some answers, so it’s going, perhaps just not as fast as you wish. But all the help on forums is by volunteers, so it may take time πŸ™‚

Hello,

I am developing a social network site for parents of handicapped children. Using BuddyPress xProfile Plugin, I am collecting the child’s photo and displaying it alongside the parent’s photo. I am using the following snippets to achieve this:

Step 1: Get the image in nouveau templates

<a href="<?php bp_member_permalink(); ?>">
<?php bp_member_avatar( bp_nouveau_avatar_args() ); ?>
<?php  echo xprofile_get_field_data( 'Child Profile Photo' , bp_get_member_user_id() ); ?>
<?php buddyx_user_status( bp_get_member_user_id() ); ?>

And then using CSS, I am overlaying it on the member’s avatar as follows:

/*childimage*/
div.item-avatar .bpxcftr-image {
width: 50px;
position: absolute;
bottom: 1px;
right: 9px;
border-radius: 50%;
}

Although I am able to get the desired output on Member directory and also on the individual’s own activity page, I am not able to get the desired output on site wide Activity Stream.

When I looked at the template of Activity Stream, I came across the form template and it looks like it is using Javascript template to display the avatar. something like this:

file: buddypress/bp-templates/bp-nouveau/buddypress/common/js-templates/activity/form.php

My questions are:
1. How do I add xprofile field in the above javascript?
2. How do I add xprofile field in the main activity-stream (not inside the individual profile activity tab)?

Would be grateful for any support on this.

thanks
Naveen

Hello everyone,

I’m trying to setup a bbPress forum, not for fun, but attempt to generate some much needed income.

I’ve run into some configuration issues, and help at the bbPress support forum has been scarce to say the least.

Can someone please kindly point me in the direction of some group or individual that could answer a few questions I have regarding bbPress.

Thank you so much much in advance for any assistance.

I’m just wondering whether anyone has a solution to this.

I’m using groups where people can ask questions and I provide a link to the relevant lesson. I’d like these links to open in a new window/tab so that it’s easy to find your way back to the group.

Thanks in anticipation.

I’m a huge nerd who uses BuddyPress. I don’t know everything but I would be on hand to answer questions. I’m a long time stack user. Back in the day when I worked for other people, I used SO all the time.

I’ve also run this idea past the Meta for WordPress SE (where BuddyPress is off-topic)

shanebp
Moderator

Yes, stack is great.
While it would be nice to avoid all the spam on these forums, who would answer questions on a BP stack?

There are unofficial Facebook groups for BuddyPress and BuddyBoss.
Participation in the former is scant, while the latter is booming.
