ParticipantYou can use BP on a regular WP install. Just there are certain features (like the domain limiting) that come with WP multisite that aren’t available on the single install. You can always upgrade your regular wordpress install to multisite and then use it like a single WP install. That’s what I’m doing right now.

ParticipantI’m looking for the same thing. Any response to this yet? WPMU is overkill for what I need, but I do want to limit people who can register to a single domain. Can I just hardcode that in somewhere?

ParticipantThanks. I guess I did something wrong from the get-go. I installed buddypress as a plugin on a regular wordpress installation. That’s not recommended?

ParticipantIt’s built into WPMU (now called WP 3.0 Multisite). Just go to Super Admin->Options->Limited Email Registrations. Not sure about WP Single Blog mode.

ParticipantFrom my experience with s2member you have to have the PayPal buttons first, have them pay. Then after they pay on PayPal they are redirected to a registration page where you can have them fill out all the forms. I don’t believe you can do it the other way around with s2member. Although, they’ve created some really advanced scripting that might make it possible, but by default the order is as I describe above. I’m guessing it would be hard to change.
I’ve actually done as you describe on http://www.givingsports.com I basically just redirect the user after the signup is complete to a credit card page where I collect the money. Then, after collecting the money I redirect them to a Thank You page which lists all the things they can do on the site. However, I had to do a custom integration with a merchant processor (BrainTree) in my case to make it happen. If my site bombs, maybe I’ll make it into a plugin;-)

ParticipantMr Boone.. I have a similar issue.. where activation is not sent…. but I once tried and updated the mailserver_ settings in wordpress.. so I recieved the activation code.. the problem is.. the code I cannot be used to activate the account.. I keep getting “Invalid Key” or “and error has occurred” messages, even though I copy/paste manually..
what do you think is the case? and is there an applicable fix that simply modifies the core files automatically? or howabout I send you the files that might help you.. and you can look into this issue..
This issue is standard and doesn’t resolve even after deleting and re-installing Buddypress over and over …

ParticipantNot sure why this wasn’t in core! or why there’s been so much faffing around on this topic when your solution looks pretty straightforward!
An issue as I see it is to some extent nomenclature what is a ‘Domain’? is a domain ‘example.com’ or ‘.com’ the answer ought to be that they both are or at least one is a TLD which to my minnd is still a ‘domain’
One possible fault with this issue appears to me to lie with the wording of the WP/MPMU – > WPMS options for limited and banned emails ; we have for Limited domains ‘ If you want to limit site registrations to certain domains. One domain per line. ‘ so I figure I’ll add .’com’ now the only registrations I will accept are from emails addresses residing in that domain space, but this doesn’t work and any email addies such as ‘joeuser @example.com’ are blocked. So ‘Limited email domains’ is just that limited to full domains and as such not greatly useful, there are many domains in existence how do I know which I want to allow, this limiting only suits something like a corporate environment where you definitely knew you only wanted registrations from your own domain or a limited few others.
Far far more useful would have been if this was a white list and allowed you to set TLDs and then perhaps further block specific domains within that TLD.
At the moment with your script I think there’s an issue? If you have set a domain in ‘limited’ then that will overrule a banned domain your script is voided, which may be fine under the circumstances.
Remove the ‘limited’ entry and your script appears to work fine, thanks for working a solution up; sadly though it’s a matter of hacking core files which isn’t good.
Can you add this as a Trac ticket patch/enhancement for 1.3 please then it may get added to core.

MemberSounds like good advice………Really all we are want is a good Profile Display Page, and an easy floating Chat maybe later on, Profiler Plug-in is the only one out there, and all of sudden it did not list our last few new members, we deleted it and and reinstalled it, and the new members are still not in there.
All the social plug ins for wordpress are a mess, we tried Theme My Profile Plug In, Mingle, BP………We get them to function all right, but then after a few days, we start having problems with Registrations, its always the registrations.
There is a standard that has been set by Facebook, we just cant touch it. That is how they grew so big.
We finally found a fairly decent User email Plug in.
Wordpress is really starving for a plug in this area.
Anyway thanks for the Advice.August 7, 2010 at 6:31 pm #88370In reply to: Members cant register using BP Registration Form

ParticipantI had two users apparently never get the activation email. (One is me, so I know it didn’t go through, but the other attempt belongs to someone I don’t know. They MIGHT have simply never opened the email.) My first attempt used a hotmail (live.com) address. The other person’s is a personal domain.
I thought I was having a problem with ALL activation emails, but when I tried a new user registration with a gmail address, it worked. I suppose I should test new user creation with some more email addresses and providers.
In any case, if you don’t have tons & tons of new users, one thing you can do while “we” figure this out is to check the Users list under the WordPress settings (from wp-admin), as even unactivated users will show up there. Then visit any problem user in buddypress by manually typing in the address for their profile page (you know, something like http://www.example.com/members/USERNAME/). Then in the admin bar, you’ll find an option along the lines of “Admin Options->Mark user as not a spammer”. That’s probably not the exact text.

KeymasterI believe Andy was working on a plugin for caching avatars to a CDN.
It’s being tested on testbp.org right now. Not sure if it’s going to be released any time soon.Re: bug – check your activity for duplicate registration from the same user. Also you can login to your WP dashboard and see if any duplicate users were created. I should note that this bug occurred on a WPMU 2.9.2 install and could also have been the result of a plugin conflict.
Might work on WP 3.0. Also try the newest release of W3 Total Cache to see if this bug is fixed.

ParticipantI get the activation email, it is just after you click on the link and sign in you stay signed in but the redirect takes you to a page which asks for a activation code.
I will check my plugins, that might be the issue.

ParticipantYou sure you haven’t installed a plugin somewhere down the line? Wasn’t there a plugin to disable the activation key process?

KeymasterI’m surprised to hear that the members are still able to log in, even if they don’t click on their activation link. That shouldn’t be the case.
In any case, you might start your search for the activation key message in bp-core/bp-core-signup.php. The function bp_core_signup_user() creates the activation key and hands it off to bp_core_signup_send_validation_email(), which creates the email. The content of that email message is filtered, so that you should be able to change the message without hacking the core files.

ParticipantI think i know now whats wrong. The activation email is not being sent to the person registering. or in the first place even if a notice confirming is being display after a successful registration it wasnt really register at all (since no email have been sent) but when I tried to use another email address which is already in use the system noticed it so I think theres something wrong with the activation mail or something.
