ParticipantNo, you have to make a lot of plugins yourself if you want to fetch most data from buddypress, you would also have to make a bbpress theme that fits your current buddypress theme and after that make redirects from the bbpress profile to your buddypress profile.
It’s a tough road, but the end is worth it.

ParticipantI agree with stwc, that is a completely valuable feature. I don’t know what your problem is here, the privacy and the blog post via theme are coming anyways.

ParticipantGreat improvement to bp! I also like how groups and friends displayed on sidebar when viewing user profiles. Now that I won’t have to edit themes to accomplish this after 1.2.

ParticipantWhen you thought you’ve seen it all.. you get suprised by a buddypress site for cleaners!
Looks like a nice rewrite of the “BuddyPress Corporate Theme”. Still not 100% done though, like the menu (unless you did it on purpose like that).

ParticipantIf it’s completely blank, and viewing the source code in the browser is blank too, my first thought would be an error in the php somewhere in the theme you’re using.

ParticipantALT tags and title tags of the images that appear on the home page and sub pages of buddypress sites should be taken into to consideration for an SEO plugin, or future core development. Currently my BP site rank far below other sites when you google for the actual dot com, which is also in the title in big letters with the new default bp theme. Unfortuanelty google sees a majority of my site as
“home” and “group avatar”
there should be a way to change / add title and alt tag to the large site title, and the small title in admin bar. I would also experiment with appending the site tite to some of hte other images.. it would be better for me to have:
my-dot-com-home
my-dot-com-group avatar
my-dot-com-groups
my-dot-com-blogs
etc
right now if type in my dot com into google, another site shows number one result, and that site is completely blank – just an empty dot com folder – that’s my first clue that bpress seo is in need of help –
Svenl77 – even with poor english translation – you are very right about all of that – you have certainly done your seo homework!
I know some of the issue is the text content showing in recent sitewide posts is not helping, but pretty much everything else on the page is gravatar images and others that are not helping the front page to rank for it’s keywords – I could take groups and recent active members off the front page and see the effects.
I would love to know where in the theme or code it is controlling the “home” as title of my site title, and group avatar, and blogs, etc – To those alt and title tags are the second biggest seo mistake with buddypress right now –

KeymasterThanks a million for the suggestions, JJJ. They set me on the right track to find a solution.
Turns out it was my own damn fault
I was porting over an older BP theme to the new framework, which involved some cutting and pasting of old lines in header.php to the new theme. I was trying to be careful to make sure that I didn’t bring over anything that was redundant or incompatible, but it turns out that I left in some references to options.php, which has been replaced by optionsbar.php. So I fixed that, and then wiped out a bunch of plugins that may or may not have been causing conflicts, and now everything is totally copacetic.Still don’t know exactly what the problem was – I don’t really see off the top of my head how the presence or absence of optionsbar.php would cause problems with bbPress – but in any case it’s now working. Thanks again for your help John.

ParticipantHello, this is a friendly bump in case someone missed this topic.
Its just that a couple of my core blogs have broken because of default theme incompatibility after the upgrade and I have no idea how to fix it without switching to a normal WP theme (which is not ideal at all)
Thanks.
November 24, 2009 at 9:54 pm #57398Tore
ParticipantI’d rebuild it from ground up with some WP-theme that you like and that looks similar to the one you use now.
I used the P2-theme and modified it to my liking. There’s lot to be done with my custom made theme. But it’s not impossible if you’ve got enough knowledge to make the original 1.0-theme like you seem to have done.
From the codex:
“If you decide that you’d like to change something in a template file, just copy the file from /bp-sn-parent/ and paste it into your theme. This file in your theme will now override the one in /bp-sn-parent/. Again, you should never edit any files in /bp-sn-parent/.”
So paste all that inside a working WP theme and then make the custom CSS that you need.

InactiveWell, the link you posted above in your first post will work on any domain and you won’t have to change a thing, except you might want to use get_stylesheet_directory_uri() instead of get_template_directory_uri(). The first function returns the child theme location (if there is one) while the second one returns the parent theme location.

ParticipantThank you gentlemen.
I would love to get my theme working via official means. I’ve tried for a few weeks now to follow Jeff’s instructions (which he has kindly provided to me for the third time above) with no luck.
Because all my bp CSS and formatting is written for the now deprecated bpskeletonmember theme, following the “I’ve used a WordPress theme for my blog with the default BuddyPress member theme†instructions from the above link results in a member theme without my CSS after I delete the bp-themes directory. That’s why I was asking how to salvage the deprecated theme. I’m a little desperate now as I only have until weeks end to work on this.
November 24, 2009 at 7:51 pm #57394r-a-y
Keymasterthorosii, it’s possible to salvage your deprecated theme (I’ve done it).
But it requires a number of core, unsupported patches and it’s not recommended.
Andy has mentioned that BP is not going to support deprecated themes moving forward.
It would be best to do what Jeff has stated to save yourself the time.
If you really need to know the how to salvage your theme (again I state this is not recommended), let me know and I’ll do a writeup.

ParticipantI am having a small issue with the new theming structure (I read all documentation there’s. So please don’t refer me there)….
I want to carry out custom changes and so far so good. However, when I use <?php bloginfo(‘template_url’) ?> it takes files from the bp-sn-parent theme. But I want to store those info in the “custom_theme” I created.
How do I reference the custom theme say in the header?

KeymasterIf you are using a custom theme, switch to the default theme. It should work – if it does, you’ll need to merge the default theme functions.php with that of your custom theme’s.

Participantit is triggered off the wp_footer call – some themes down have it at all in the footer, in that case, put it in – i found some themes have it called in the wrong spot, and have to have it moved up higher(i have gotten the bar at the bottom of the page sometimes) play with the footer, the answer is there!
